TV shows exploring parallel universes offer unique perspectives and refreshing takes on established worlds. The best sci-fi shows effectively balance multiple timelines, creating complex and intriguing storylines. Some parallel universes introduced in TV shows, like the Phoenix Academy and Pillow World, leave viewers wanting more exploration.

One thing I always appreciated about TV shows was when the story jumped into a parallel universe, but there were some that I wish wed seen more of. Some of the best TV shows of all time have delved into the concept of their respective universes being different from normal, which was often a refreshing and new take on an already established fictional world. However, the best sci-fi TV shows ever executed this premise the best overall.

Parallel universes have varied depending on context, have generally been physical places that a character visits by traveling across dimensions. However, some were formed based on a...

The Umbrella Academy's 16 Hargreeves Siblings Ranked By Power
Image
The Hargreeves siblings' powers define their story, with new abilities and upgrades in season 4. Some, like Viktor and Allison, have powerful abilities, while others like Jayme and Alphonso face limitations. New introductions like Phil and Fei bring unique powers to the mix, showcasing the diverse range within the siblings.

Between The Umbrella Academy's various timelines and apocalypses, there are many different versions of the Hargreeves siblings and their superpowers. Whether it was Allison struggling with the consequences of her rumor power or Viktor feeling isolated because he supposedly did not have any powers, these abilities or lack thereof have defined much of the siblings' story since season 1. This has continued to be the case as more Hargreeves siblings, including those of the Sparrow and Phoenix Academies, were introduced through other timelines in later seasons.

The final season proved to be particularly game-changing in a timeline where the Hargreeves siblings gained...

‘Degrassi: The Next Generation’s’ Banned Abortion Episode Changed TV
Image
In 2004, Degrassi: The Next Generation aired what would become their most controversial episode with “Accidents Will Happen,” which premiered in Canada in two parts on January 26 and February 9, 2004. However, the episode would not see the light of day on Degrassi’s U.S. network, The N, for another two years. This sparked outrage among Degrassi fans and confusion among the show’s stars, who couldn’t understand why, out of every sensitive topic Degrassi had touched upon, the storyline in “Accidents Will Happen” was too much for America to handle.

"My 2nd High School": Degrassi: Next Generation Star Reflects On Impact Of Teen Drama
Image
Degrassi: The Next Generation star Jake Epstein has reflected on the impact of the series both on society at large and his own life. The long-running high school drama is one in a long line of Canadian television series that began with The Kids of Degrassi Street (1979-1986) and includes Degrassi Junior High (1987–1989), Degrassi High (1989–1991), Degrassi: The Next Generation (2001–2015), and Degrassi: Next Class (2016–2017). Epstein played Craig Manning, the musician stepson of returning character Joey Jeremiah (Pat Mastroianni), for 91 episodes between seasons 2 and 8.

TV Insider recently sat down with Epstein ahead of the release of his new Hallmark rom-com The Wedding Contract. During their conversation, he reflected on the fact that he "spent more time on set filming at Degrassi than I was in my actual high school." He also shared that he is proud to be a part of such a "cornerstone of Canadian entertainment" that meant so much to so many people.

Jake Epstein Looks Back on ‘Degrassi’: ‘It Felt Really Special & Authentic’
Image
While teen dramas talking about serious subject matters is more common these days than they used to be, back when Degrassi: The Next Generation (2001-2015) — just one of several series in the franchise — was on, that wasn’t the case. And when TV Insider recently spoke with Jake Epstein (who starred as Craig Manning across Seasons 2-8) about his latest Hallmark movie, The Wedding Contract, we had to have him look back at his time on the show. “At the time, you never know what kind of impact something you’re in is going to have. And when I was doing Degrassi, I mean, it felt really special and authentic. I loved the character that I was playing,” he shared. “It’s only really been in years after that I’ve really realized that a lot of those stories meant a lot to a lot of people who are maybe...

‘The Wedding Contract’: Jake Epstein Explains Why This Love Story Is ‘More Human’ Than Most on Hallmark
Image
What happens after the leads fall in love? That’s what Hallmark’s newest movie, The Wedding Contract (premiering June 17) asks. In the film, starring Becca Tobin and Jake Epstein, Rebecca and Adam are a recently engaged Jewish couple who must contend with their different values and beliefs. She’s all about home and family, while he’s focused on his work and not as connected to or familiar with Jewish tradition as she is. And his work becomes a problem when it interferes with their wedding planning — and might be the reason for a possible move to LA. Epstein introduces the new love story. What drew you to the script and to the character of Adam? Jake Epstein: Most Hallmark movies are about a courtship, right? Very few movies answer the question, what happens afterwards? And I think what initially drew me to this movie is that the point that this movie starts,...

A Christmas Karen & 4 Other Unexpected Holiday Movies To Watch Now
Image
With Hanukkah just begun and Christmas around the corner, the year is winding down and making room for good old-fashioned holiday cheer. But whatever one's holiday of choice may be there, plenty of films make the rounds every year, perfectly marketed as family fun for the winter or already established in the classic Christmas canon. For those who wish to venture outside the holiday box and gather around the proverbial fireplace for something a little less expected, Screen Rant has a few options for you.

Though not every selection is from 2022, each one still resonates this holiday season and offers a path less traveled in the face of the usual winter season fare. One movie that is very new, however, is A Christmas Karen, which is a thoroughly modern take on A Christmas Carol and currently streaming on demand and on digital. While the title is tongue-in-cheek, the moral is...
