Exclusive: Luke Hemsworth, Morgan Freeman and Lou Ferrigno are lending their weight to the Tarzana International Film Festival (Tziff).

The trio will appear at the San Fernando Valley festival, which takes place September 5-7, with the red carpet rolled out at the Regal Cinemas at Sherman Oaks Galleria for more than 70 films.

The opening night sees the West Coast festival premiere of Gunner, the adrenaline-fueled action thriller starring Hemsworth and Freeman that’s Directed and produced by Dimitri Logothetis.

Ferrigno, the bodybuilder known for playing the Incredible Hulk, joins the festival as a featured awards presenter. Celebrations will culminates in a closing night gala and awards dinner at the Braemar Country Club.

Ron Ely‘s cause of death has been confirmed nearly two months after his passing.

After the Tarzan actor died at age 86 on Sept. 29, his death certificate listed the cause as “end-stage heart disease,” an advanced form of cardiovascular disease that makes the heart too weak to effectively pump blood.

The certificate listed Ely’s time of death at 7:04pm and noted he has been cremated, according to TMZ.

Ely’s daughter Kirsten previously told the outlet her father passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family.

Kirsten shared an emotional tribute to her father on Instagram. “The world has lost one of the greatest men it has ever known – and I have lost my dad,” she wrote.

Ely was the storied man of the jungle in NBC’s Tarzan, which aired from for two seasons in the mid-1960s.

In what can only be described as saddening news, legendary actor Ron Ely has passed away at the age of 86. The announcement came from his daughter Kirsten Casale Ely, who told The Associated Press that he died on September 29 at his home in Los Alamos, California.

Ely was best known for portraying Tarzan in the NBC TV series, which ran for three seasons between 1966 and 1968. A time when action-packed TV shows based on classic characters were big commodities for network television (See: Batman), Tarzan maintained many of the elements that were popular with the source material, but it is particularly notable for not featuring Jane. It's also notable for the fact that Ely did the majority of his own stunts (and suffered some injuries as a result of that).

Exclusive: The Man of Bronze is headed to the small screen. Sony Pictures Television and Neal H. Moritz’s Sony-based Original Film have partnered with Condé Nast Entertainment to develop a scripted television series based on the Doc Savage pulp fiction franchise from the Street & Smith library. The project is part of the new three-year deal Original Film signed with the TV studio last summer.

The scripted series will chronicle his adventures, featuring rampaging dinosaurs, secret societies led by dastardly villains, fantastic gadgets and weapons, death-dealing traps, hair-raising escapes, and plots to rule the earth.

Deputies with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office shot and killed a homicide suspect in the home of Tarzan actor Ron Ely on Tuesday night.

Authorities received a call for help after 10 p.m. in the 4100 block of Mariposa Drive in Hope Ranch, according to Lt. Erik Raney, spokesman for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

An elderly woman was discovered dead at the home located in the exclusive Hope Ranch community on Wednesday evening, according to the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department. CNN reports the victim had been stabbed to death.

Ely, 81, who is best known for his titular role in the 1960s Tarzan television series, is listed on property records as owning the house. It is not clear if he was home at the time.

In the meeting were Shane Black and his writing team Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry. They met with Dwayne Johnson and Hiram Garcia, a producer from his production company, Seven Bucks Productions. Black had made a statement earlier this year about the film:

“Doc Savage is sort of in the ether now,” Black stated in March. “We’re hoping to make it sometime next year. I would very much like to do Doc with a fellow named Dwayne Johnson if we can make that work. I made a decision that Dwayne is the guy. It’s on the back burner while he’s busy.”

Numerous actors have occupied the role of Sherlock Holmes over the decades, some more suited to the shoes of author Arthur Conan Doyle's famous consulting detective than others. One of the finest portrayals is that by Ian Richardson. Yet, sadly, his is also one that is often overlooked, not leastways because he played the character just twice (in a pair of 1983 films made for television), but also because his light was to be quickly eclipsed a year later by the arrival on TV screens of Jeremy Brett, whose interpretation of Holmes is considered by many to be the definitive one.

Sy Weintraub – who produced several Tarzan movies throughout the 60s and was executive producer on the popular long-running Ron Ely TV series –teamed up with Otto Plaschkes (whose producer credits include Georgie Girl and The Holcroft Covenant) with the intention of making several Holmes adventures headlining Richardson.

Milton Caniff’s Steve Canyon (1947-1988) was one of the most celebrated adventure comic strips of the 1950s. The blond, square-jawed hero was on the cutting edge of action as he took to the skies and had adventures around the world. Caniff populated the strip with memorable supporting characters and adversaries so it was a rich reading experience.

The strip was so popular that when Captain Action was introduced in 1966, Canyon was one of the first heroes he could turn into. Somewhat earlier, Canyon also served as inspiration for an NBC prime time series that, sadly, bore little resemblance to the strip (a common problem back then).

In 2008, John R. Ellis brought us this forgotten gem with The Complete Steve Canyon on TV Volume 1 and followed up a year later with Volume 2. The silence until late last year when the anticipated Volume 3 finally arrived, completing the run. Thankfully it came...

He’s been the God of Thunder and now he might be the Man of Bronze. Thor and the Avengers star Chris Hemsworth has reportedly met with director Shane Black about starring as the title character in Black’s Doc Savage film.

The long planned Doc Savage film, which will be directed and produced by Shane Black—who is also now involved with the Predator reboot—has been slow to get started, and there’s been little news; until now.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Black has met with the currently hot actor Chris Hemsworth (Thor, the Avengers, Thor: the Dark World, Snow White and the Huntsman) about starring in the film version of the famous ‘science detective’, who first appeared in pulp magazines written by Lester Dent in the thirties, and has been the hero of many novels ever since. When last we visited Clark Kent and Lana Lang, they were at college, leaving Smallville behind and as Season Three of the syndicated series arrived, it came with changes. The first was that Superboy became The Adventures of Superboy and then the focus moved the characters from the well-named Shuster University to a quasi-internship at The Bureau for Extra-Normal Matters in Capitol City, Florida. Clearly, the actors were aging and the premise of them being in college stopped making sense, plus menace of the week stories was becoming tougher to make plausible on the static campus. The more plausible setting worked for super-heroes but certainly took something away from the civilian side of life, a similar issue plaguing Smallville in its latter seasons.

Julie Harris, Lilimae Clements to "Knots Landing" fans, has died. She was 87.

The five-time Tony winner first made a splash on TV in the late 1940s with ABC's "Actor's Studio." From there, her TV work was primarily TV movies including "The Lark," "Pygmalion" and "Anastasia." In the 1960s, Harris appeared opposite Ron Ely in "Tarzan" (pictured below) as Charity Jones.

More guest appearances followed, including roles on "Bonanza," "Columbo" and "Medical Center." In 1980, Harris joined the cast of "Knots Landing" as Lilimae Clements. She stayed with the series until 1987. Harris was nominated for an Emmy for her performance on the CBS series.

In 1986, Harris appeared in an episode of "Family Ties" as Margaret Hollings, an older woman in Mallory Keaton's (Justine Bateman) class.

I’ve never been much of an admirer of Tarzan, the savage apeman creation of writer Edgar Rice Burroughs. While I can’t say that I didn’t like the character, I was always more into science fiction and thus my interest lay with Burroughs’ other, lesser known creation, John Carter of Mars. That’s not to say that I didn’t hate Tarzan, it’s just that he (and his adventures) seemed one-dimensional and pretty tame. After all, what’s there to do in deepest darkest Africa except fight wild animals?

Thanks to the efforts of writer Scott Tracy Griffin, my knowledge of Tarzan and his world has expanded greatly. Tarzan: The Centennial Celebration is Griffin’s new hardcover tome, a 320-page coffee table book that lays out the history of the character, from the original stories written by Burroughs nearly a century ago to Tarzan’s transfer...

Yesterday we celebrated our fourth birthday and today we get to hear from a rather famous book which this year is celebrating it’s centenary. Titan Publishing have released a simply wonderful book which contains multitudes of photos, articles and stories from the legacy that Edgar Rice Burroughs created when he invented Tarzan. The story has been made into books, movies, plays, cartoons and much much more. From all these adaptations has come bucket-loads of wonderful art all of which are showcased in this wonderful new book. Titan Books are publishing the only official commemorative illustrated history of the lord of the jungle (October 24th).

Each of the original novels and Tarzan’s many varied appearances on stage, screen and in print receives a detailed commentary, illustrated with beautiful artworks, illustrations and photographs, many rarely seen in print before. Press release attached.

On September 21-22, Warner Home Video will present screenings and seminars of classic action TV series from their archives at the Paley Center in Los Angeles. Comic-Con 2012 is so close we can taste it! The epically badass geek convention is set to invade San Diego from July 11th to July 15th, and we can't wait to get over there and get crazy!

Comic-Con International has released the full schedules for Wednesday July 11th and Thursday July 12th, and there's a ton of stuff going on! It's going to kick off with a great first couple of days that will give you plenty of stuff to do! Wednesday looks like it's going to be an awesome day of pilot screens and Thursday has got stuff like Twilight... (fart) and Disney will be holding their big panel, along with a ton of other great stuff to check out!

We rarely associate hotness with game show hosting, but why is that? It takes bravado, rigidity, and charisma to run a good game show, and I'd say the same rubric applies to male strippers and So You Think You Can Dance contestants. In honor of the late Richard Dawson, the original host of Family Feud and an unforgettable Match Game panelist, I'll be tallying the hottest men of televised gaming.
