  • Won the Winston Million in 1985 at Darlington Raceway after winning at Daytona and Talladega (3 out of 4 races)
  • Won the 1988 Winston Cup Championship by winning 6 races, along with 6 pole positions, 11 top-5 finishes and 22 top-10 finishes.

    Lost the 1992 Winston Cup Championship to the late Alan Kulwicki by only 10 points.
  • Won the Pop Secret Microwave Popcorn 400 at North Carolina Speedway (Rockingham, AKA "The Rock") in 2003.
  • Father guided he and his brothers into racing to keep them out of trouble.
  • Became the first professional stock-car driver to appear on the cover of "Sports Illustrated" after he won the Winston Million in 1985.
  • 1985: Award the "Winston Million" or $1 million dollars for winning the Daytona 500, the Southern 500, and the Winston 500 all in the same season. He won a total of 11 races and 11 pole positions that year, and as a result became the first Winston/Nextel Cup driver to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated.
  • Will be driving on a limited run schedule in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series (February 2004)
  • Inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2007.
  • Anytime Bill Elliott (or Chase) won a NASCAR race, the city of Dawsonville, Georgia, turns on the siren.
  • His son Chase is currently driving in the NASCAR cup series for car owner Rick Hendrick.
