Mahmoud El Meligy in La terre (1970)
Mahmoud El Meligy was one of the most iconic Egyptian actors in the last century. With a career spanning over six decades and a filmography that contains 500 films and TV series, he is considered one of the most accomplished actors in Egyptian cinema. Moreover, 21 of his films were selected in the list of the best 100 films in Egyptian cinema, according to a poll made by critics in 1996 commemorating the 100th anniversary of the first cinema screening in Alexandria (1896-1996).

He started as a theater actor in the early 1930s before he started getting smalls roles in cinema. He was best known for playing villains and evil protagonists, but he also excelled in roles where he played noble and beloved characters. His ability to blend his serious demeanor with comic timing won over both audiences and critics in his comedic performances.

He was awarded "The Medal of Sciences and Arts" from the Supreme Council of Arts and Social Sciences in 1964, the "State Encouragement Award in Acting" in 1972, a "Certificate of Appreciation" at the Day of Art in 1977 and the Gold Medal for First Pioneers. He was also appointed as a member of the Shura Council in 1980.
