  • He was cited for heroism by Los Angeles County for his involvement in saving a 13 year-old boy near the Hermosa Beach Pier. The boy had been swept offshore by a riptide--Durren swam out to the boy, and brought him back to the pier pilings, where he held onto him until they were rescued.
