Image
Quick LinksWho Died on Chicago Fire - And Why That's Bigger Than Fans ThinkChicago Fire Season 13, Episode 15 Teases Viewers With Damon's ReturnChicago Fire's Comic Relief Never Really Gets Off the Ground

The following contains major spoilers from Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 15, "Too Close," which debuted Wednesday, March 5 on NBC.

Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 15, "Too Close" upholds a long-running tradition on the NBC show: killing characters off. Anyone who's watched the series consistently knows that people die in and around Firehouse 51 on a regular basis. It's the writers' way of keeping things fresh, and also reminding viewers that firefighters have a lethal job. This latest death, though, will leave fans reeling for a few different reasons.

What's interesting is that most of the drama in "Too Close" revolves around a different firehouse. Firehouse 20 is front and center because of Kelly Severide's half-brother, Jack Damon. Meanwhile, Severide and Stella Kidd are completing their adoption vetting process.

David Krumholtz on Playing Lousy Carter & Starring in Oppenheimer
Image
He once sang Frank Sinatra in his underwear (The Slums of Beverly Hills). He also once played Head Elf under Kris Kringle (The Santa Clause). Years later, he played an adult film director on the small screen (HBO's The Deuce), and now, acclaimed actor David Krumholtz is back — but this time, he's the lead character in a project. In fact, he's the titular character in Lousy Carter, and don't let the tight runtime fool you.

The new offering hit theaters on Friday, March 29, and packs a punch. We recently caught up with Krumholtz in a hilarious interview to learn more about his latest project and what it means to him to have co-starred in the latest Best Picture winner at the Oscars (Oppenheimer).

Lousy Carter Review: David Krumholtz Shines in Bob Byington's Dry Comedy
Image
What would you do if faced with a fast-approaching death sentence? Start cooking meth? Jump into a volcano? Drink yourself silly? A new dry comedy from acclaimed filmmaker Bob Byington (Infinity Baby) explores said notion with hilariously cringe effect. Collaborating once again with beloved character actor David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer) after their work on Frances Ferguson (2019), Byington is an auteur who cannot be stopped. And don't let the tight 80-minute duration (including end credits) of Lousy Carter fool you into thinking this is any sort of throwaway comedy effort.

In addition to Krumholtz sinking his teeth into a deadpan, thought-provoking role he was born to play, other fan-favorite performers like Martin Starr (Party Down) and Stephen Root (Barry) also grace the screen here. But it's perhaps the women who reign superior here, thanks to standout turns by Olivia Thirlby (The Wackness) and newcomer Luxy Banner. The grim and non-commercial subject matter...

Trailer for Onur Tukel's Comedy About Americans 'The Misogynists'
"What is wrong with you?!" Oscope Labs & Factory 25 has debuted an official trailer for an indie satirical comedy titled The Misogynists, the latest from filmmaker Onur Tukel. This premiered at a few smaller film festivals in 2017, but has been quietly awaiting release ever since. Mostly because it's about two assholes and comes with a title as blatant as "The Misogynists". In a single, fully-stocked hotel room on the night of the 2016 general election, two Trump supporters celebrate the results. In over his head, under duress, and tempted by his old weaknesses, Don soon discovers that the house has its own dark, sordid history and won't be so easy to renovate after all...."

Written and directed by Travis Stevens, Girl on the Third Floor stars Phil "C.M. Punk" Brooks, Trieste Kelly Dunn, Sarah Brooks, Elissa Dowling, and Travis Delgado. In case you missed it, Heather Wixson interviewed Phil Brooks about Girl on the Third Floor on a recent episode of our Corpse Club podcast.

Awesome Trailer for a Unique Haunted House Horror Thriller Called Girl On The Third Floor
I’ve got a great trailer for a new horror film that you’ve got to check out. The movie is called Girl on the Third Floor, and it looks like it offers a unique take on the haunted house genre.

The film centers on Don Koch (Phil "Cm Punk" Brooks) who attempts “to renovate a rundown mansion with a sordid history for his growing family, only to learn that the house has other plans.” As you’ll see in the trailer, Don’s experience takes some twisted turns and things start to descend into a hellish madness.

This seriously looks like it’s gonna be a great horror movie! I loved what the trailer had to offer. There are some super creepy and disturbing visuals. Travis Stevens directed the film, and it also stars Trieste Kelly Dunn, Sarah Brooks, Elissa Dowling, Karen Woditsch, Travis Delgado, and Marshall Bean.

Official Trailer for Acclaimed Mansion Horror 'Girl on the Third Floor'
"This house has a history of bringing out the worst in people." Dark Sky Films has released an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Girl on the Third Floor, the feature directorial debut of veteran indie producer Travis Stevens (of Snowfort Pictures). This received some rave reviews from SXSW where it premiered earlier this year, and will likely be a sleeper hit once it opens in theaters this fall. Professional wrestler / superstar grammar slammer "Cm Punk" stars as Don Koch, a man tries to renovate a rundown Victorian mansion, only to learn that the house has other plans. Also starring Trieste Kelly Dunn, Sarah Brooks, Elissa Dowling, Karen Woditsch, Travis Delgado, and Marshall Bean. This seriously looks like one of the most creative, clever, twisted, scary ass modern twists on a "haunted house" film. Holy crap. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Travis Stevens' Girl on the Third Floor,...

“Home Is Where Hell Is” in the New Trailer and Poster for Travis Stevens’ Girl On The Third Floor
In her four-star SXSW review, Heather Wixson wrote that Travis Stevens' Girl on the Third Floor "feels like if Clive Barker and H.P. Lovecraft had teamed up to make The Money Pit," and ahead of its release this October from Dark Sky Films, a trippy new trailer has been revealed, offering a look at a home renovation gone hellishly wrong.

Written and directed by Travis Stevens, Girl on the Third Floor stars Phil "C.M. Punk" Brooks, Trieste Kelly Dunn, Sarah Brooks, Elissa Dowling, and Travis Delgado.

Dark Sky Films will unleash Girl on the Third Floor in theaters and on digital platforms beginning October 25th. We have the new trailer and poster below, and check here to read Heather's review and her interview with Travis Stevens, Phil Brooks, Trieste Kelly Dunn, and Sarah Brooks.

Synopsis: "Bursting pipes, rotting walls, and unidentifiable slime were not what Don Koch (WWE...

Frightfest 2019: ‘Girl on the Third Floor’ Review
Stars: Phil Brooks, Trieste Kelly Dunn, Sarah Brooks, Travis Delgado, Elissa Dowling, Karen Woditsch, Marshall Bean, Anish Jethmalani, Bishop Stevens | Written and Directed by Travis Stevens

Travis Stevens, producer of films such as A Horrible Way to Die, The Aggression Scale, Starry Eyes and We Are Still Here (all fanatasic genre films may I add), turns his hand to directing with a haunted house film that, ultimately, feels like a lesser entry in the Amityville franchise.

In a surprising move, former wrestler-turned-mma fighter Phil Brooks takes the lead as a man tipped over the edge while renovating his new family home. However bursting pipes, rotting walls and unidentifiable slime were not what Don Koch (Brooks) expected when he convinced his pregnant wife he could renovate their new Victorian home himself. In over his head, under duress, and tempted by his old weaknesses – especially from a mysteriously seductive neighbour – Don soon...

Last week, prolific indie genre producer Travis Stevens celebrated the premiere of his directorial debut, Girl on the Third Floor, which screened as part of the Midnighters slate of programming at the 2019 SXSW Film Festival (you can read my review Here). While in Austin, Daily Dead sat down with Stevens as well as several of the Girl on the Third Floor cast members, including Phil Brooks (who fans worldwide also know as Cm Punk), Trieste Kelly Dunn, Sarah Brooks, Elissa Dowling, and Travis Delgado, and we chatted about finally having the film out there in the world after its premiere at the fest, the real-life inspirations behind the story of Girl on the Third Floor, and their experiences working together out in Frankfort, Illinois.

Girl on the Third Floor (2019)
SXSW Film Review: ‘Girl on the Third Floor’
Girl on the Third Floor (2019)
Home improvements may be the death of you in “Girl on the Third Floor,” a likable supernatural thriller with Phil Brooks aka former WWE wrestler C.M. Punk as an expectant first-time father whose haunted fixer-upper serves up temptations he thought he’d left behind. This first directorial feature by prolific indie producer Travis Stevens tips its cap to a number of bigger, sometimes better horror opuses, resourcefully if not quite memorably reducing their tropes to a smaller scale (and budget). Yet if the story isn’t ultimately a knockout, the film’s atmospherics and sense of humor are winning nonetheless. “Girl” should do well at genre fests as well as in streaming.

Unemployed and lucky to be un-incarcerated in the wake of a deal with the Feds (we don’t find out the precise nature of his crime until late in the film), Brooks’ Don Koch is trying to bury...

SXSW 2019 Review: Girl On The Third Floor Reminds Us That You Can’t Escape the Ghosts of the Past
For his first time at bat as a director, longtime indie horror producer Travis Stevens delivers up his truly unique and wickedly weird take on haunted house tropes with Girl on the Third Floor, which also features Phil Brooks (who most wrestling fans around the world know as Cm Punk) in his first ever feature film role. What’s so interesting to me, beyond the film’s narrative that takes some decidedly left turns out of nowhere—especially during the latter half of the movie—is how Girl on the Third Floor is centered around this character who is exploring this new path in his life, and both Stevens and Brooks are also branching out in new ways here as well, and that is something I not only deeply appreciate, but I think those types of parallels between real-life and filmic stories are incredibly fascinating to explore, too.

Set in Frankfort,...

Girl on the Third Floor: Trailer Arrives for Cm Punk Horror Movie
Joseph Baxter Aug 27, 2019

Former WWE superstar (and Ufc fighter) Cm Punk fields a starring role in the horror movie, Girl on the Third Floor.

Cm Punk, a.k.a. Phil Brooks, has been fielding what might be one of the most publicized career transitions in history ever since the caustic-but-popular former WWE Champion abruptly abandoned the pro wrestling scene in early 2014, leaving an enduring trail of (non-scripted) controversy behind him. Besides banking some written work with Marvel Comics, his long-touted try as an Mma fighter in the Ufc led to two emphatic losses. However, a headlining role in a horror movie, called Girl on the Third Floor, might lead Punk toward new success as a movie star.

Brooks is joined in the Girl on the Third Floor cast by Trieste Kelly Dunn, Elissa Dowling and newcomer Sarah Brooks.

"James Toback Humped My Leg In Central Park"
An Interview with the makers of Infinity Baby

2017: The Weinstein’s, Toback’s, Spacey’s, C.K’s, Affleck’s, and Hoffman’s of the film world have, for the first time, been ousted from their Hollywood havens and floated down an assembly line into the best short-term rehab facilities movie money can buy.

The effect is all encompassing, not just for filmmakers & entertainers, but for politicians (George H.W Bush, Al Franken), and the civilians who consume them, too. The influence is so sweeping that, come the 40th Denver Film Festival, a Toback story derailed an interview organized between the cast and crew of the feature film Infinity Baby, that was held in a small corner of the city’s Civic Center.

In attendance: Infinity Baby’s director Bob Byington (7 Chinese Brothers, Harmony & Me), its writer Onur Tukel (Catfight, The Misogynists), and its star Trieste Kelly Dunn (Banshee,...
