- Joshua David Duhamel was born in Minot, North Dakota. His mother, Bonny L., is a retired high school teacher, and the executive director of Minot's Downtown Business & Profession Association, and his father, Larry Duhamel, is an advertisement salesman. Josh has three younger sisters: Ashlee, McKenzee, and Kassidy. His ancestry is German, and smaller amounts of Norwegian, French-Canadian, English, Irish, and Austrian (his last name is very common among Francophones in the world). Before his acting career, the football player studied biology and earned his Bachelor's degree at Minot State University with the intention of pursuing dentistry.
When 26 years old, Josh worked in construction, and it was by chance that he got into show business. Modeling eventually gave way to acting as Josh was asked to audition for the title character in The Picture of Dorian Gray (2004), from the novel by Oscar Wilde.
Duhamel can be seen in Vince Gilligan and David Shore's CBS series, "Battle Creek." He is in production on four films: "Lost In The Sun", "Bravetown", "The Wrong Stuff", and "Beyond Deceit".
Duhamel also starred alongside Hillary Swank and Emmy Rossum in the George C. Wolfe directed drama, "You're Not You". Duhamel also starred opposite Julianne Hough in Lasse Hallstrom's "Safe Haven", a drama based on the best-selling novel by Nicholas Sparks, and the thriller "Scenic Route," which tells the story of two friends stranded in the desert. In addition, Duhamel was seen in the star-studded, ensemble comedy "Movie 43" alongside Emma Stone, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Kate Winslet, Richard Gere among many others. Co-directed by Peter Farrelly and Patrik Forsberg, the film features various intertwining, raunchy tales.
Other projects include Garry Marshall's "New Year's Eve" alongside Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert DeNiro, Halle Berry, and Hilary Swank, and Michael Bay's "Transformers: Dark of the Moon", where he reprised his role of Captain William Lennox for the third installment of the franchise. Additional film credits include the romantic comedy "Life as We Know It" alongside Katherine Heigl, "Ramona and Beezus", "When in Rome" and "The Romantics". On television, Josh is best known for his role as Danny McCoy on the NBC crime drama "Las Vegas". Additionally, he lent his voice to Nickelodeon's Emmy Award-winning animated series "Fanboy & Chum Chum" and starred in several seasons of the long-running ABC soap opera "All My Children," in which he received three consecutive Daytime Emmy nominations.

- He was in the works to make his acting debut in the lead role for a situation comedy entitled "A Tale of Two Strippers", which told the story of two male exotic dancers in Las Vegas who find themselves trying to evade a hit man after witnessing an arranged murder when they get an address mixed up and arrive to the wrong location to perform a private gig. The project was written and was to be directed by Alan J. Pakula but he died in an automobile accident before anything could start, so the project was immediately canceled. Had this gone through, this would have also marked the debut of actor Ashton Kutcher who was to star alongside him as the second male lead.
- He wanted to be a dentist from the time he was a sophomore in high school. He gave up his dream to become a dentist when his grades were not good enough to get in a dental college. As a result, he moved to California where he was discovered while posing for fashion magazines.
- (on Les meilleurs amis (2010)) I didn't like it at first. I didn't. Because when I first read the script, I said, "I don't like any of these characters." I really didn't. I just thought it was a bunch of selfish people who were making much bigger deals of their problems than they really were. But then I read it again, and I liked it much better because it felt like it was really kind of a reflection of what people are anyway - what friends are like, what groups of friends and family are like. We're all dysfunctional. We're all messed up in some way.
- [on working with Julianne Hough in Un havre de paix (2013)] I championed Julianne for this film because I knew she was hungry, a hard worker, sweet and down-to-earth. On a movie like this, where everything depends upon the connection between the two people, there can't be any hang-ups. And with her there are none. She is who she is. It made it easy to open up to her, and for her to open up to me.
- [on developing his character for Un havre de paix (2013)] I was on the beach with with a pencil and paper and a little journal. I wanted to make very clear what relationship was with my wife, the one that passed away, even though I didn't have any scenes with her in the movie. It was important that I knew our history before I ever got into anything else with any of the characters. So I did a lot of writing about how we met.
- When I was a kid, I dreamed about fame, you know, how cool it would be to be in a movie and to be on television. I thought about certain movie roles or certain lines from movies by myself in the shower and thought I could do that someday. But I never really believed that I ever had a chance.
- [on marriage] You have to like the person that you are with, not just love them, but actually really like them. I really do like my wife a lot. She's funny. She's fun. She's very kind, very generous and thoughtful - all those things that you hope for. I think that we both grew up with similar backgrounds, believe it or not. Our parents are both former teachers, Catholic. We didn't have a lot growing up. I don't think either one of us takes our lives, our blessings, for granted.
