After losing the part to Shelley Long, Duffy was soon cast in a first season episode as a friend of Diane's named "Rebecca Prout", not to be confused with Kirstie Alley's character who replaced "Diane Chambers" as the nemesis/love interest of "Sam Malone", a character also later played by Kirstie Alley.
