      During the late '50s and early '60s he lived in Hotwells, Bristol, in a house he had purchased for just 250 pounds and renovated in stages. In the early '90s, when chairman of HTV Wales, he purchased Penkill Castle in Ayrshire, Scotland for approximately 650,000 pounds.
