  • Actress
IMDbProStarmeterSee rank
The daughter of an English engineer and a Mexican housewife, blue-eyed blonde María Douglas was a force to be reckoned with, whether on stage, screen or television. She began her career as a ballet dancer and worked her way up to become one of Mexico's greatest actresses.

A practitioner of method acting, she came into her own when she wowed stage audiences with her beauty and talent in the early 1940s. After making her film debut in Cinco fueron escogidos (1943), she was hailed as one of the new movie stars of 1943. Two years later, she received her first nomination for the Ariel Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in El monje blanco (1945).
