In the late1920's he was suffering from depression so emigrated to New Zealand where he worked on a 110 acre farm but couldn't settle so after 5 years he returned to England where he trained at RADA and toured in repertory until called up for the army serving in N Africa, Scilly, and Arnhem. After demob he became Insp Blake in the long running BBC Radio serial Dick Barton - Special Agent. He's married to Gina and has 5 children Timothy, Amanda., Angus, Blaze and Piers
