The British Academy of Film and Television Arts presented its 2025 TV Awards at the Royal Festival Hall in London, with a wide spectrum of talent recognized across drama, comedy, factual, and children’s programming. Hosted by Alan Cumming, the event was broadcast on BBC One domestically and streamed on BritBox in the United States, continuing the Academy’s emphasis on broad accessibility for international audiences.
This year’s selections showcased both returning series and first-time contenders. Several winners have already seen cultural ripple effects across the UK media landscape. ITV’s Mr Bates vs the Post Office stood out not only for winning Limited Drama but also for earning the Special Award, recognizing ITV’s role in commissioning a project that helped catalyze national discussion. Based on a real-life miscarriage of justice, the series dramatized the experiences of sub-postmasters wrongly accused of theft and fraud, spurring public and political attention.

Mr Bates vs. the Post Office pulled off a victory over Netflix's Emmy-winning Baby Reindeer at the 2025 BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday. The ITV drama that dominated U.K. ratings last year tells the story of hundreds of innocent sub-postmasters and postmistresses who were wrongly accused of theft, fraud, and false accounting due to a defective It system.
However, it wasn't all bad news for Baby Reindeer. Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award winner Jessica Gunning continued her impressive awards streak, scoring Best Supporting Actress, and bringing the limited series’ total to three wins, including writing and directing victories from the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on April 27.
Lennie James beat out the likes of Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer) and Gary Oldman (Slow Horses) to win Best Actor for Mr Loverman, in which he plays an exuberant, closeted family man who wants to end his marriage and live with his best friend.

Amanda Holden, known for her daring figure-hugging dresses, braved the cold Blackpool weather in a flirty pink ensemble before taping a Britain’s Got Talent episode at the Winter Gardens.

But Holden defied the freezing temperatures in a low-cut corset dress. At one point, though, she was seen with a pink coat casually draped over her shoulders.

Awards season may well be over for another year in the world of film, with the Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes just a distant memory now. But on Sunday evening, one of the biggest nights in British TV, the BAFTA TV Awards — this year hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Ramesh Ranganathan — took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall. And on a night where the two most nominated shows, Black Mirror and The Crown, failed to snag a single win, Happy Valley, Top Boy, and The Sixth Commandment enjoyed great success in key categories, each taking home two awards apiece.
On the night, Sarah Lancashire won Leading Actress for her all-timer of a turn as police sergeant Catherine Cawood in Happy Valley, her second BAFTA for the same role. The show also snagged the public-voted Memorable Moment award for Catherine and Tommy Lee Royce’s (James Norton) remarkable final kitchen showdown.

Exclusive: UK management agency Ymu is set to make up to 9% of staff redundant following a company review. At the same time, key lender Permira Credit will become its majority shareholder as part of the restructure, we can reveal.
Staff have been informed of the plans internally in the past hour. We hear headcount will be reduced by around 8-9% — up to 32 of Ymu’s 350 employees — and the redundancy process will begin in September. This comes after an independent review of the business by AlixPartners was undertaken to assess routes to a firmer financial footing following a testing post-pandemic period.
Specialist credit investor Permira Credit, which has been a major lender to Ymu, is planning to make what’s thought to be a sizeable investment in the company, and the agency’s leadership team will also equity partners as part of the agreement. “Byker Grove,” the iconic British teen drama that launched dozens of entertainment careers – as well as unleashed a strangely catchy theme tune on the world – is back.
Seventeen years after the last episode aired on the BBC, “Byker Grove” is returning with two of its former stars – Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, collectively known as Ant and Dec – at the helm. “The Kardashians” producers Fulwell 73 will co-produce alongside McPartlin and Donnelly’s production company Mitre Studios (“Saturday Night Takeaway”).
Originally launching in 1989, “Byker Grove” was set in a Newcastle youthclub and did not shy away from hard-hitting storylines. Among the well-known faces who came up through its ranks were “The Gentleman’s” Charlie Hunnam, former MTV host Donna Air, Jill Halfpenny (“Coronation Street”) and McPartlin and Declan, who played Pj and Duncan. The duo launched a short-lived career in pop music under their characters’ names, Pj and Duncan, before a successful pivot to TV presenting.

Broadcaster ITV – which recently extended its deal with the duo for a reported £30 million ($37 million) for three years – reassured viewers Ant and Dec would continue to front other primetime shows including “I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!,” “Britain’s Got Talent” and “Limitless Win.”

Ant and Dec have opened up about the “mischievous” way they introduced Bruno Tonioli to the Britain’s Got Talent family.
The ITV talent show returns this weekend, with former Strictly Come Dancing judge Tonioli joining the panel alongside Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon.
Speaking ahead of the series, Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly admitted that, during the first day of auditions, they gave the new judge a number of different rules to confuse him.
“We, quite mischievously, kept telling him different rules,” Donnelly told the Pa news agency. “So when he hit his golden buzzer on the first session of the first day, mid-way through an act, we told him not to worry because he had another golden buzzer tomorrow, and that he had one every day.

Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway was reduced to chaos in a moment that could have only happened on live TV.
This series introduced a segment that saw doorbells belonging to audience members ring out in the studio. When an audience member identifies their bell ringing, they must shout “Ding dong, that’s my doorbell.”
Then, a neighbour watching at home, recognising the audience member, must run to their door with a household item specified by hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.
However, in the final episode of the ITV entertainment series, the segment was plunged into chaos when an elderly lady named Cynthia was coincidentally already stood at her neighbour’s house, seemingly popping round for a catch up without realising she had wandered into a live TV situation.
Making matters even more hilarious was the fact that several neighbours, who were watching at home, were arriving behind Cynthia,...

Ant and Dec were expertly shaded by a prank victim on Saturday Night Takeaway.
On Saturday (4 March), the latest episode of the entertainment series was broadcast on ITV, and one segment saw the hosts trick guests at a London Premier Inn while they checked in.
As the hotel customers tried to get their room key, they were instructed to use an automated machine – however, Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly were hidden just yards away.
However, the presenters were overshadowed by an unsuspecting holidaymaker named Ernest after the pair revealed their identites.
Ernest’s initial reaction to the automated machine had audience members in stitches.
After pressing all the buttons, he ended up breaking the microphone, to which Ant, speaking behind the machine, told him: “Stop touching me.”
“I should be so lucky,” he fired back.
When Ant and Dec finally revealed they were behind the machine, Ernest, instead of appearing shocked in the slightest,...

Ant and Dec have been criticised for a prank on the opening episode of the new season of Saturday Night Takeaway.
Fans of the show were left upset last night (25 February) by a baby scan prank on a father-to-be.
Liam, described on the programme as a “serial jokester”, was pranked by wife Amy, who was in cahoots with ITV presenting duo Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly to get revenge on him.
The prank saw the couple (who were genuinely expecting a baby boy who has since been born) attend a fake scan, in which they were shown a video of a baby that was not theirs, making rock star signs when the Queen song “Bohemian Rhapsody” played.
In the clip of the prank happening, Liam says he is left “speechless” by what he’s seen.
Viewers were not impressed. “Fake baby scan?? Too far, nothing but cruel,” posted one fan on Twitter.

The world was a different place in 2006 when former Fsb agent Alexander Litvinenko hit global headlines. This was years before Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014, the poisoning of Sergei Skripal in 2018, and even longer before its invasion of Ukraine earlier this year. This was a strange time when Vladimir Putin was still hanging out with George W Bush and Tony Blair; still a tolerated member of the international community. But, as screenwriter George Kay’s new drama on the Itvx streaming service shows, that all began to change with a drop of polonium in a teapot.
The Litvinenko story unravelled extremely quickly. Three weeks after falling ill, Litvinenko was dead – and by that point, his face had been splashed on newspapers around the world. Kay’s series takes the same approach: within the first few seconds, Litvinenko is vomiting into a toilet. By the end of the episode, he will be dead.

Matt Hancock has admitted that he knew joining I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! would be “controversial”.
The former health secretary, 44, whose stint in the Australian jungle prompted criticism from the Prime Minister and MPs across the political spectrum, entered the reality TV competition early this month as a late contestant.
He ended up coming third during the series finale on Sunday (27 November) behind the winner, former England footballer Jill Scott, and Hollyoaks actor Owen Warner as runner-up
Hancock claiming 21.7 per cent of the initial public vote and, during the post-series Coming Out Show on Thursday (1 December), said that ultimately “millions of people” voted for him.
The special reunion episode will show Hancock being reunited with his partner Gina Coladangelo and attending a wrap party for the show.
Hancock resigned as health secretary in June last year after he was caught breaking coronavirus social distancing rules by having an affair with Coladangelo,...
