    Left New Zealand for Hollywood in 1919 to escape a 'family scandal'. Appeared in films under the name Nola Luxford. She made her radio debut, broadcasting reports of the 1932 Olympic Games for NBC, and became one of the first women network news announcers in New York. She also ran the Anzac Club which catered for Australian and New Zealand servicemen. Was awarded an OBE.
