Glenn Danzig’s ‘Death Rider in the House of Vampires’ Finally Getting a Release on Blu-ray
Image
Glenn Danzig (Verotika) brought his Vampire Spaghetti-Western Death Rider in the House of Vampires to select theaters back in 2021, but it’s been quite a while since we’ve heard a peep about the project. When will you actually be able to watch the movie?

Bloody Disgusting has learned this week that Cleopatra will be releasing Glenn Danzig’s Death Rider in the House of Vampires on DVD and Blu-ray sometime in December 2023!

You can pre-order your copy – various editions are available – right now.

Patrick Bromley wrote in his 2021 review for Bloody Disgusting, “Death Rider in the House of Vampires has all the charm of Verotika, and nearly all of its flaws, too. That’s probably damning praise, encouraging fans of the latter to seek out the former while scaring off those who found Danzig’s first film to be insufferable. I can’t fault either party for rushing out...

Glenn Danzig’s ‘Death Rider in the House of Vampires’ Heads to Cannes
Image
Glenn Danzig (Verotika) brought his Vampire Spaghetti-Western Death Rider in the House of Vampires to select theaters back in 2021, you may recall, but it’s been quite a while since we’ve heard a peep about the project. Screen Daily breaks the silence this week, revealing that Death Rider in the House of Vampires is coming to Cannes this month.

Screen Daily reports, “Vmi Worldwide has added action-horror feature Death Rider in the House of Vampires to its slate for the Cannes market.”

What does this mean? Well, it means that Danzig’s Death Rider in the House of Vampires will be going up for sale this month, which could bring us closer to a wide release. Beyond that limited theatrical release back in 2021, the film hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

Stay tuned for more as we learn it.

Lineup Announced for Split Screens TV Fest in New York – Maggie Gyllenhaal’s ‘The Deuce’ to premiere & much more
Author: James Kleinmann

The lineup for the first Split Screens TV festival in New York which runs at the IFC Center from 2nd – 8th June 2017 has just been announced.

With high-profile filmmakers and actors working in television now the norm and the current wealth of celebrated series, showcasing episodes along with their casts and creators has become an increasingly important aspect of major film festivals. Despite the likes of Tribeca 2017 creating an entire programme strand for television, the natural focus of festival press coverage tends to remains on film, so it’s great to see more festivals emerge like Spilt Screens which are devoted purely to television.

Curated by critic Matt Zoller Seitz, the weeklong Spilt Screens festival comprises special events, panels and screenings and launches with the world premiere of HBO’s ’70s set drama ‘The Deuce’, with producer and co-star Maggie Gyllenhaal in attendance.

Other guests taking to...

McAvoy's Personalities Frighten in Second Trailer for Shyamalan's 'Split'
"An individual with multiple personalities can change their body chemistry with their thoughts." Universal has revealed a second trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's newest twisted horror thriller Split, starring James McAvoy as a man with 23 different personalities. He kidnaps three different girls, who try to figure out how to escape his prison. The full cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy (from The Witch), Haley Lu Richardson, Kim Director, Jessica Sula, Sterling K. Brown, Betty Buckley and Brad William Henke. Jeremy's review from Fantastic Fest, where this film showed up as surprise screening, raved that it's Shyamalan's "absolute best horror film to date", adding that there is an "inherent creepiness to everything happening" with the three girls. This looks damn good, an attention-grabbing trailer. I want to see it for McAvoy alone. Here's the second trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's Split, direct from Universal's YouTube: You can still watch the first trailer for Shyamalan's Split here,...

James McAvoy in First Trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's Thriller 'Split'
"He knows what you're here for. He listens to me..." Shyamalan is back with another thriller. Universal has unveiled a trailer for Split, the latest film written & directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The psychological supernatural thriller stars James McAvoy as a man haunted by 23 different personalities in his mind as part of dissociative identity disorder. The full cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy (from The Witch), Haley Lu Richardson, Kim Director, Jessica Sula, Sterling K. Brown, Betty Buckley and Brad William Henke. This looks very interesting, unlike any kind of psychological thriller we've seen before, and I think that's a good thing. The multiple personalities concept is intriguing, and I'm curious if there's a big twist. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for M. Night Shyamalan's Split, direct from YouTube: Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who...

Shyamalan's Split Trailer Gives James McAvoy Terrifying Multiple Personalities
James McAvoy in Split (2016)
Last year, just one month after director M. Night Shyamalan and producer Jason Blum released their new thriller The Visit, Universal Pictures announced a January 20, 2017 release date for the pair's next movie, Split. We haven't heard anything about this mystery project since then, but today we finally have the first trailer from this harrowing thriller. While James McAvoy has become quite popular for his portrayal of Professor X in 20th Century Fox's X-Men prequel trilogy, Spilt will showcase a much more sinister side to this beloved actor's repertoire.

M. Night Shyamalan returns to the captivating grip of The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs with Split, an original thriller that arrives in theaters January 2017. Following last year's breakout hit The Visit, Shyamalan reunites with producer Jason Blum (The Purge and Insidious series, The Gift) for the film. This new thriller from Universal Pictures will face some heavy competition on January 20, 2017, going...

10 Celebrities You Forgot Were In Horror Films
Ben Affleck
This upcoming month, there are two interesting genre titles playing on Fearnet that you should take note of; 'Eden Lake' and 'Dahmer.' Why? Because they both represent early movies for actors that have proved to be outstanding performers in the arts long before they honed their craft. In the case of 'Eden Lake,' the film is fronted by Michael Fassbender, long before he played Magneto in the 'X-Men' films, stole the show in Quentin Tarantino's 'Inglourious Basterds' & played the android David from 'Prometheus' with such cold, calculated perfection. Also, you can catch 'Dahmer,' the bio pic from director David Jacobson, which stars Jeremy Renner in one of his first cinematic lead roles. Now he's an Avenger in the Marvel Universe! So it got me thinking about other examples of successful stars you may have totally forgotten were in genre films.

Heather Donahue in Le Projet Blair Witch (1999)
Five Lessons We Hope "Paranormal Activity 2" Learned From "Blair Witch 2"
Heather Donahue in Le Projet Blair Witch (1999)
When "Paranormal Activity" came out last year it was hard not to think about "The Blair Witch Project": two heavily improvised, found footage horror films shot independently on shoestring budgets that became enormously profitable hits thanks to ingenious internet marketing campaigns. So with "Paranormal Activity 2" opening this week, it's hard not to think about "Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2," which, like "Paranormal Activity 2," was rushed into production to capitalize on its predecessor's surprising success and made by a different creative team than the original film.

Based on the "Paranormal 2" trailers it's clear they've already avoided a few of the pitfalls of "Blair Witch 2," most notably maintaining the original's docsploitation visual style instead of shifting to a more conventionally shot fiction film. But Paramount has kept a tight lid on just about everything else. Having enjoyed both "The Blair Witch Project" and the first "Paranormal Activity," and...

10 Poorly Received Sequels That Deserve Another Look
Once a film is successful, a studio almost immediately demands a sequel. Whether we the audience want one or not, you can be sure Hollywood will give us a follow-up if they made big dollars the first time. There are many films that don't really need sequels (thank the maker Zemeckis and Hanks said no to another Forrest Gump) and some that could use a continuation of the story. Once that second film is a hit a trilogy or continuing franchise is inevitable.Quite often sequels fall flat, initially disappointing audiences and failing to make their mark at the box-office. Many times, these films turn out to be just as good, if not better than the originals. The Empire Strikes Back is a perfect example of a film that was initially received poorly, yet despite being the lowest grossing Star Wars film is now considered to be the best. Here...
