The movie, which initially premiered at South by Southwest (SXSW) in March 2024, followed by a wide release in April, will land on Hulu on Jan. 24 this year. After Longlegs, Nicolas Cages Other 2024 Horror Film Is Worth Watching
Image
Nicolas Cage shines in the post-apocalyptic thriller Arcadian as a protective father facing terrifying monsters with his teenage sons. Arcadian offers stunning visuals and intense horror-action scenes, showcasing Cage's well-known versatility. Despite flying under the radar, Arcadian deserves more attention for its gripping plot, talented cast, and eerie atmosphere that keeps viewers on edge, and it's finally streaming.

As part of the rebranding of his career a few years ago, exploring horror in such movies as Mandy and Color Out of Space, multitalented and beloved American actor Nicolas Cage came into full force in 2024. True to his prolific self, the actor is starring in no less than three movies this year. If the most talked about is the recently released horror film Longlegs, about a serial killer whose motivation may lie in the occult, the other two should not be overlooked.

First is The Surfer, a psychological thriller in which...

Quick Links What Is Arcadian About? What Are the Monsters in Arcadian? How Did Goofy Influence the Arcadian Monsters?

Released on April 12, 2024, Arcadian is a post-apocalyptic horror thriller earning rave reviews for its terrifying monster designs. Although the story is fairly routine, the Nicolas Cage starring creature feature pays heartfelt homage to some of the all-time scariest movie monsters. Equal parts Cujo, Xenomorph, King Kong, and The Fly, the creepy quadrupedal creatures are also inspired by a lovable Disney character that may stun fans.

With Arcadian now available to stream on AMC+, a closer anatomical inspection of the movie monsters is in line to help viewers navigate the nightmarish screen terrors. Although the creatures share similarities with those featured in Aliens and A Quiet Place, Arcadian's deadly beasts could be the next major horror villains to overtake the genre. Arcadian Review | Legitimately Scary Monsters Pack a Wallop
Image
Excellent acting brings intelligent characters to life in this thrilling horror film. Terrifying monsters keep the tension high, despite a lot of familiar story beats. Themes of family, survival, and hidden dangers make for a nail-biting experience.

A father tries to protect his teenage sons in a post-apocalyptic world teeming with terrifying creatures in Arcadian, which takes a familiar scenario to legitimately scary-as-hell heights. Director Ben Brewer and screenwriter Michael Nilon deserve a golf clap for delivering originality in a genre we've seen before ad nauseam. Jaws will drop as ferocious monsters display unique abilities and work together to fill their hungry bellies. Strong performances by a solid ensemble lift the narrative when it strays into simplistic territory. Arcadian is a lean film that packs a wallop in its relatively short runtime.

Paul (Nicolas Cage) runs at top speed through a city on the verge of collapse. Gunfire, sirens, and...

New Nicolas Cage Horror Movie Restarts Winning Rotten Tomatoes Streak After 2023 Disappointments
Image
Nicolas Cage's latest movie, Arcadian, marks a significant point in his career renaissance after a rough patch. Despite mid-career volatility, an 85% rating shows Arcadian is the right movie to keep Cage's momentum going. Arcadian balances family drama, action, and horror, delivering a human tale in the midst of a monster movie.

Nicolas Cage is a Hollywood enigma when it comes to his ability to please critics one moment and be on the receiving end of some harsh criticism the next. His latest movie, the horror film Arcadian, has once again seen the actor’s resurgence pick up after a stumbling run of movies in 2023. Following his acclaimed role in Dream Scenario, Cage is once again proving to be back on the right track with his latest offering.

The new monster movie marks another significant point in the renaissance of Cage’s career, which has been one of the most contradictory in Hollywood.

‘Arcadian’ Review: Nicolas Cage Headlines a Post-Apocalyptic Drama That Rarely Lives Up to Its Potential
Image
In Benjamin Brewer’s Arcadian, the Earth’s soundscape is full of signs. The rustling leaves and frenetic bird calls are the noises of daylight’s safety, whereas the stillness of the night warns of threats. Brewer’s film harnesses the uneasy tension of a post-apocalyptic reality where no one knows what happened at the end of the world.

Premiering at SXSW, Arcadian observes Paul (Nicolas Cage) and his two sons, Thomas (Maxwell Jenkins) and Joseph (Jaeden Martell), navigating life in a recognizable but quieter version of Earth. Their routines rarely vary. In the morning, they forage around the forest for wood; salvage scrapes from ruined ships in abandoned ports; and run other errands around the house. At night, they say a prayer over dinner and check the locks. A cracked window or a door left ajar is an invitation for the monsters — impressively designed creatures with black veiny flesh...

‘Arcadian’ Review: Benjamin Brewer’s Post-Apocalyptic Film Starring Nicolas Cage Struggles Between Concept And Execution – SXSW
Image
Arcadian director Benjamin Brewer, along with writer Mike Nilon, attempt to navigate the tumultuous waters of a post-apocalyptic narrative, showcasing a world decimated by an unspecified catastrophic event. Starring Nicolas Cage along with Jaeden Martell and Maxwell Jenkins, the film plunges into the life of a family striving to survive in a desolate landscape fraught with nocturnal terrors. Despite a cast that promises gravitas and the tantalizing premise of a stark, survivalist drama, the film ultimately fumbles, delivering a disorienting experience that fails to terrify.

The film opens on a note of chaos, as viewers are thrust into a world already in ruins, with the storyline hinging on the familial bond and survival tactics of Paul (Cage) and his sons. In this barren world destroyed by an unknown catastrophe, the remnants of humanity cling to life. Among the survivors are Paul and his two young sons, Joseph (Martell) and Thomas...

Nicolas Cage Fights Off Monsters in Arcadian Trailer
Image
After its South by Southwest (SXSW) premiere, Rlje Films’ Arcadian has received its official trailer, providing fans with a preview of what to expect from Nicolas Cage’s next action horror movie.

The Arcadian trailer brings the audience to a post-apocalyptic reality, where most of humankind has been wiped out by monsters who only appear at night. It introduces Cage as a father of two teen boys, as he teaches them what they need to do to survive their uncertain futures in a dystopian world. The film also teases the cause of these monsters’ arrival on Earth, which might be connected to the environmental crisis. "There are those who believe they came after the pollution people caused. And they’re here to cleanse the planet of the human race; so we’ll all become extinct," Cage’s character states at the beginning of the video.

West End Review: ‘Imperium’
“Imperium” builds Rome in a day. Robert Harris’ trilogy of novels charts the city’s slide from a great civilization to a grim imperial power, as democracy buckles and dictatorship digs in. Onstage, in “Wolf Hall” adaptor Mike Poulton’s adaptation for the Royal Shakespeare Company, now newly arrived in London’s West End, it plays like a grand history cycle: the errors of one era give rise to those of the next. It might be set in antiquity, but contemporary resonance is close at hand.

Ostensibly a biography of Marcus Tulius Cicero — lawyer, orator and senator — as told by his slave-cum-secretary Tiro (Joseph Kloska), “Imperium” is most illuminating on the machinations of political power. While Richard McCabe’s calculating, quick-witted Cicero charms his way to a unanimous electoral victory as Rome’s new consul, a crowd of his rivals are on political maneuvers.

Poulton uses the language of the present to survey the past,...
