Sophie was born in 1969 in Paddington, London, to parents Mary Clare and Harrison Dix, both artists and teachers. She moved to Totnes in Devon aged three, where her father was to run an Eco Art course at the former Dartington Hall College. Here Sophie went to King Edward VI comprehensive school and fell into acting at an early age, involving herself in the drama projects at Dartington, and moved to London to attend Drama Centre London aged seventeen. Shortly after graduating, whilst doing a new play at The Riverside in Hammersmith, Sophie was asked to step in at short notice to write and perform a comedy monologue for BBC Radio 4 (Bogman). After this she was commissioned to write and perform a sitcom for Carlton Television and her writing career became as busy as her acting. She was commissioned to write films for Recorded Pictures and Hungry Eye as well as other prestigious film companies.

Sophie is best known as an actress for her roles as Captain Sadie Williams in television show Soldier Soldier, (1995-1996), as well as leads in The Buccaneers (1995), The Heat of the Sun (1998), Macawbre (2001-2002), and films The Hour of the Pig (1993) and Military Wives (2019).

Family (2)

She lives in Oxfordshire with her two daughters, Georgia Dix and Violet Dix.

Trivia (3)

    • Trivia
In October 2017, Dix joined the growing number of women who have alleged that producer Harvey Weinstein sexually harassed, sexually intimidated, and/or sexually assaulted them. She told The Guardian that, in the early 1990s, in a hotel room to which he had invited her to watch rushes with him during filming of L'heure du cochon (1993), he tried to force himself on her and masturbated in front of her; the incident left her emotionally scarred and despondent: "It's the single most damaging thing that's happened in my life" and she believes that it ruined her film career.
