- Brother of Jonathan Dimbleby and son of Richard Dimbleby.
- At the age of 75, while filming an item about sailors' tattoos for his programme Britain and the Sea (2013), he decided to have his very first tattoo - of a scorpion, his birth sign. However his scorpion has only six legs instead of the more normal eight.
- Educated at Charterhouse School.
- Studied politics, philosophy and economics at Christ Church College, Oxford.
- Has 3 children with his first wife, Liza, Henry Dimbleby and Kate Dimbleby, and 1 son, Fred with his second wife.
