Started making films in high school with friends J. Stephen Peace and John DeBello. Took third place in the 1972 Kodak Teenage Film Festival and won the 1971 San Diego Film Festival with "Do They Accept Travelers Checks in Babusuland?" This silent film is in the 2002 25th anniversary DVD package.

Costa Dillon worked for the National Park Service as a ranger and park superintendent for 35 years. He has been a law enforcement officer, EMT, firefighter, guide, and in search and rescue. He was superintendent of Indiana Dunes National Park, Fire Island National Seashore, Homestead National Historical Park, and the Horace M. Albright Training Center.
