Caleb Deschanel is an American film cinematographer and film/television director. He has been nominated for six Academy Awards, each time in the field of cinematography. The first nomination came in 1983 for the film L'étoffe des héros (1983). His second was in 1984 for Le meilleur (1984), the third in 1996 for L'envolée sauvage (1996), the fourth in 2000 for The Patriot : Le Chemin de la liberté (2000), the fifth for La Passion du Christ (2004), and the sixth for L'Oeuvre sans auteur - Partie 1 (2018).
He is the father of actresses Emily Deschanel and Zooey Deschanel.
