Nephew Pradeep Desai worked in the film Amar Akbar Anthony. Twenty-two-year old rookie film producer Pradeep Desai is embarking on a project which would daunt even old hands at the game. He is producing a film based on the lives of Billa and Ranga. Amol Palekar will take the part of Billa, and Mithun Chakravarty will star as Ranga. The subject is so "topical" that the Censor Board has advised the young producer not to go ahead with the film. If he does, he could lay himself wide open to a contempt of court, because Billa and Ranga have yet to be tried. Desai was deeply impressed by the movie, Helter Skelter, based on the Sharon Tate murders. Said Desai, "My film is going to be realistic. No running around trees, and no music." The film will be released only after the Billa-Ranga case is decided.

Launched a film titled "Love Birds" with Kumar Gaurav in 1983. It was to be a Hindi and English bilingual film. He decided to shelve it. He later revived the film with Jugal Hansraj and Pratibha Sinha ( Who replaced Shabana Dutt). The title "Sweetheart" was also registered. After much thought they finally decided to make the film as Anmol with Rishi and Manisha.

Manmohan Desai was planning on a film titled "Construction Rani" starring Rati Agnihothri. This was in 1983. The film was to be made in 5 different languages. The project fizzled out.

Nephew is assistant director, special effects technician (Danny Desai ('Subash Desai' son). Danny Desai is now a pilot.

In 1988, Manmohan Desai and Ketan Desai launched "Gundaraj" to be written and directed and N.Chandra. The film got shelved.
