A three hour documentary about iconic comedian Ken Dodd will premiere in June, and here are the details.
There are few comics, before him or since, who were as hardworking as Ken Dodd. Known for the epic length of his performances, he performed shows that began at 7.30, wouldn’t have an interval until 10.30, with gigs regularly finishing in the small hours.
Dodd passed away in 2018 at the age of 90, and left a legacy of laughter in a career that began in the 1940s.
Ken Dodd is now set to be the subject of new documentary The Real Ken Dodd: The Man I Loved. As a tribute to Dodd’s shows, the film is a whopping three hours long.
The film, narrated by the irrepressible Miriam Margoyles, also features tributes from the comedy community, including Lee Mack, Harry Hill, Johnny Vegas, Tim Vine, Les Dennis, Ricky Tomlinson, Stephen K Amos, Shaparak Khorsandi and the late,...

I’m a Celeb: Matt Hancock finally discusses dyslexia after saying he would raise awareness in jungle
Matt Hancock has discussed his dyslexia for the first time since entering theI’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!camp.
Ahead of joining the show, the former health secretary vowed he would use the “incredible platform” to raise awareness of the learning difficulty after facing criticism from politicians and the public.
Two weeks into the reality series on Sunday (20 November), the MP, who was stripped of the Tory whip for appearing on the reality show, finally opened up about his experience of being diagnosed while at university.
Chatting to comedians Babatunde Aleshe and Seann Walsh, Hancock was asked what he had struggled with during life, to which he replied: “I can’t dance, I can’t sing and I can’t read very well, very quickly.”
As the trio reflected on their experiences growing up, Aleshe joked that staying alive at his school in Tottenham was his “biggest...

Les Dennis has questioned when Matt Hancock is going to talk about dyslexia, as he said he would, on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.
The former health secretary, who had the Tory whip for appearing on the reality show, initially claimed that he would use his platform to raise awareness for the condition.
Appearing on Good Morning Britainon Tuesday (15 November), actor Dennis said that he’d been intrigued to see how Cleaver would react to Hancock arriving in the jungle last week.
“When Matt Hancock went in, I was wondering how Sue would react,” he said.
However, Dennis said that he was unimpressed with how much attention Hancock was getting on the show.
“I’ve got bored with it,” he said. “I don’t want to watch the Matt Hancock show. And where’s the talk of dyslexia?”

Dennis plays a heavy-drinking mind-reader in this dire comedy that ends with a bang, but only after 95 minutes of ropey dialogue and offensive gags
Les Dennis, the comic and former Family Fortunes presenter, has done solid work in musical theatre and found a late-career phase on television in sending himself up as an ironised national treasure for Ricky Gervais and Reeves and Mortimer. But it’s difficult to find any postmodern justification for this dire indie Britfilm comedy which is directed and scripted like kids’ TV – albeit a very filthy sort of kids’ TV.
Dennis plays Pendrick, who tours provincial theatres with a tragically naff mind-reading act, often in the company of his peppery agent Gerald (Anthony Head), who has to feed him his cues and get him out of trouble when his heavy drinking and foul-mouthed abuse of the paying customers and theatre management get out of hand. But does Pendrick have a secret?...

Stars: Anthony Head, Les Dennis, April Pearson, Nathan Clarke | Written and Directed by Adam Oldroyd
I’m happy to admit I wanted to watch Sideshow based entirely because it starred Anthony Head and Les Dennis. I’m a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan, so I’ll watch pretty much anything with any of that show’s leads and I just thought it was such an odd pairing with Les Dennis that I had to see it. So here we are.
The poster and synopsis for Sideshow seem to lead towards this being promoted as a much more serious affair than it actually is. Which is slightly odd because although there’s a bit of darkness to the humour it would still benefit from people knowing there are plenty of laughs.
We see two criminals break into a (locally) famous psychic’s (Dennis) house looking for something more than just money.

"You can't hold me responsible for what the spirits say." Munro Films has debuted a new official UK trailer for an indie comedy titled Sideshow, from filmmaker Adam Oldroyd. The film follows two criminals who after breaking into the home of a washed-up psychic, get much more than they bargained for, because "The All-Seeing Stupendo" is a genuine master of the dark mystic arts – at least that's what it says on his poster. "It's a hilarious, perfectly-pitched and thoroughly silly way to spend 90 mins." With hilarious performances from British legends Les Dennis and Anthony Head, as well as April Pearson and Nathan Clarke. Oldroyd states: "Sideshow is my modern take on the black humour of the old Ealing comedies. Les was the perfect pick to play ageing psychic Stuart Pendrick, his years of experience as one of the nation's best-loved entertainers was the ideal material to draw from." It looks...

After the runaway success of The Office launched Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s careers, they reteamed for another BBC comedy that was just as much of a cringe-inducing delight, but didn’t receive as much attention. Extras stars Gervais and Ashley Jensen as a pair of struggling actors who scrape by with extra work and butt heads with A-list stars cameoing as themselves.

From Ian McKellen giving a baffling masterclass in acting and Les Dennis crying in the nude to David Bowie turning Andy Millman’s woes into the song “Little Fat Man,” there are a ton of hysterical moments across Extras’ two-season run.

ITV has confirmed that it is dusting off Family Fortunes after the entertainment show was last on British television in 2015.
Deadline first revealed in April that ITV was piloting the format in a lockdown environment with Fremantle label Thames, and now the game show, which is based on America’s Family Feud, will return for a 10-part series.
UK chef Gino D’Acampo will host, presiding over two families competing to win cash prizes by second-guessing the responses to a survey of the British public.
Vernon Kay hosted the UK show’s most recent iteration, All Star Family Fortunes, between 2006 and 2015, while Les Dennis and Bob Monkhouse were among the presenters of previous series.
Filming will take place on the new series later this summer. Family Fortunes was commissioned by Katie Rawcliffe, ITV’s head of entertainment, and entertainment commissioner Joe Mace. Ash Whitehouse is the executive producer.

Les Dennis isn't exactly in our day-to-day thoughts, truth be told, but the news yesterday (January 23) that the light entertainment legend would be joining Coronation Street still managed to put a massive smile on our face. Les on the cobbles! Amazing!

Way back before Britain's Got Talent, The X Factor et al, there was New Faces, a notoriously tough competition where a panel of judges - including a youthful Noel Edmonds - marked variety acts on their "star quality", usually without chucking water over each other or trying to get into the papers with a particularly daring dress, as all that palaver is a modern talent show invention.
