He formed a nightclub partnership with Huntz Hall in 1950 that resulted in the breakup of both men's marriages. Gabe's wife, Barbara, and Mrs. Hall jointly divorced them on 14 May 1953, citing the act as an alienating factor.

It was incorrectly reported in a Topps Boba Fett magazine that Dell provided the voice of Boba Fett in L'Empire contre-attaque (1980). Lucasfilm eventually corrected the item, confirming that it was actor Jason Wingreen who did the voice for the film, and speculated that the confusion resulted from the fact that Dell most likely provided the voice of Boba Fett for the animated segment of Au temps de la guerre des étoiles (1978), but that no record of what voice the actor actually did supply could be found.

Survived by two sons, Gabriel Dell Jr. and Beau Del Vecchio (both actors), and a sister, Ethel Evelyn Del Vecchio.
