- In college, Lowell Dean was a member of StrawHat Players, a summer theater program. Eight plays, including two musicals, were performed each season. He had numerous leads. Theater critics came from newspapers as far as the Twin Cities and Winnipeg, Canada. Many shows were produced right after their Broadway runs. This program subsidized the college's football team.
