In Game of Thrones' brutal continent of Westeros, where vileness and cruelty were never in short supply, countless characters endured unimaginable suffering. However, no one was subjected to debilitating torture quite like Theon Greyjoy. Captured by the sadistic Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon), Theon was tormented and broken to the point of losing his identity. His arc remains one of the most harrowing on the show, and one of the most memorable, thanks in no small part to Alfie Allen, who embodied the character with haunting precision, earning an Emmy nomination. Now, for his next role, the English actor will play the tormentor in an upcoming Paramount+ thriller that promises to flip the dynamic he once portrayed so painfully well.
According to Variety, Allen has been cast to play the villain in a new original UK thriller series, Baby Doll (working title), that has just been commissioned by Paramount+. The 6-part...

Paramount+ has commissioned “Baby Doll,” a new original U.K. thriller series.
Based on the novel by Hollie Overton, the 6-part series — described as a “gripping exploration of trauma, resilience, sisterhood, and the high cost of reclaiming one’s life” — is being produced by Brit production banner Clapperboard Studios.
Now in production, “Baby Doll” — currently a working title — will follow the story of twin sisters Lily and Abby, whose lives are shattered when Lily is abducted from their quiet rural English town by beloved local teacher Rick Hansen. After years of abuse in captivity, Lily escapes, only to discover that freedom brings its own challenges. The world she longed to return to has moved on without her. As Abby, Lily and their mother Eve struggle to rebuild their family, they must confront the lasting damage and the terrifying reality that Rick is still out there, determined to control the narrative and evade justice.

The zombie apocalypse subgenre of horror has been around for decades, and its start is often credited to George A. Romero's classic Night of the Living Dead. Nevertheless, there is perhaps no better zombie flick than Danny Boyle's 2002 horror film 28 Days Later. The British end-of-the-world film follows a mail courier named Jim (Cillian Murphy) after he wakes up from a 28-day coma only to find London a desolate wasteland. After a group of activists accidentally released monkeys from a laboratory, a rage virus the monkeys were carrying spread rapidly through England.
The film has remained a favorite in the genre for over 20 years for many reasons. It's a devastating story of loss, grief, fear, and desperation. The journey that Jim and his fellow survivors go on is harrowing and full of heartbreak. They watch countless people succumb to the virus and are falsely presented with salvation at their lowest point.

The fate of Danny Boyles 28 Days series has been given a surprising update by producer Andrew Macdonald. Boyle directed Cillian Murphy in 2002's 28 Days Later, in which the Irish actor played Jim, a bicycle courier who wakes up from a coma only to find that his beloved London has been ravaged by out-of-control citizens infected with the Rage Virus. A sequel, 28 Weeks Later, followed in 2007, and while that film featured an entirely new cast, Boyle, Macdonald, Murphy, and original writer Alex Garland will all be returning for 28 Years Later, which is slated for release in 2025.
Garland and Macdonald were on hand at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (via THR) on August 18 to discuss their working relationship over the years, as the duo have teamed up for a number of projects, including Ex Machina and Civil War. The conversation inevitably turned to 28 Years Later, and it was...

Next chapter in Nia DaCosta's film series is 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple - dark turn hinted. Jodie Comer emphasizes original film's grounded reality and emotional depth in anticipation of sequel. Cillian Murphy returns in 28 Years Later, alongside Alex Garland's unique script influence - premiere in 2025.
A recent copyright filing has revealed what appears to be the title for the next chapter in Nia DaCosta's film series. Official documents of the filing list the sequel as 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple.
28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple picks up nearly three decades after the original's events, a gap that leaves plenty of room for narrative innovation and character development. While the details of the plot remain under wraps, the title alone suggests a darker turn, perhaps exploring the aftermath of the previous film's events through a new and possibly sinister lens.

Based upon Silvia Zucca’s hit book, the series produced by Italian International Film is described as a romantic comedy studded with surreal and tragicomic encounters. After directing two feature films (Jump and Finding Camille), Bindu de Stoppani is also now taking her first steps into the sphere of TV series. The Swiss-Italian director has slammed the first clapperboard on the new Italian Netflix original series Guida astrologica per cuori infranti, which she herself created and which will be co-directed by the actress-director Michela Andreozzi (who previously stepped behind the camera to offer up Nine ½ Moons and Good Goals). Promising to be a romantic comedy studded with surreal and tragicomic encounters, the series is produced by Italian International Film - Gruppo Lucisano and will be shot entirely in Turin, with funding from the Piemonte Film TV Fund and the support of the Film Commission Torino Piemonte. Written by Bindu de.
Bindu de Stoppani, the India-born but Switzerland-raised multi-hyphenate who directed Swiss films “Jump” and “Finding Camille,” is set to direct her third feature, a female-driven dramedy titled “40 & Climbing” set in an Alpine valley and featuring a strong Italian cast.
Italy’ s Anna Ferzetti, who recently scooped multiple local prizes for her role in dramedy “Domani è un altro giorno” – is set to star in “40” along with Elena Di Cioccio (“Squadra mobile”) and Eurice Axen (“Loro”).
The plan is for cameras to start rolling Aug. 10 on this Italian-language film in the Blenio Valley, in Switzerland’s Italian-speaking Canton of Ticino, amid Alpine peaks and routes that have been used for centuries.
Pic is about three middle-aged female friends who meet up in the mountains to scatter a dead friend’s ashes and then embark on adventures in the Alpine wilderness that make them “rediscover a past they’ve turned their back on,...

The Empire in Leicester Square played host (alongside four other cinemas around the country) to the third annual British Independent Film Festival last weekend, and we were there to catch the world premiere of British high-octane horror Airborne on the Friday evening, as well as a trio of films screened the following day.
