Starting in the seventh season of the ultra-successful "Stargate Sg-1" TV series, noted actor Robert Picardo played a character named Richard Woolsey, a stuffed-shirt overseer who kept a close eye on the members of the Stargate project. Woolsey is not a villain in his own mind -- he seeks only order and oversight -- but his bureaucratic shenanigans caused more harm than help. From 2004 to 2007, Woolsey appeared in seven episodes of "Stargate." His episodes of "Stargate" also overlapped with recurring appearances in the third and fourth seasons of the spin-off "Stargate: Atlantis." In that show's fifth and final season (which ran from 2008 to 2009), Woolsey became a series regular, with Picardo appearing in 20 episodes.
Picardo might be best known for his role as the holographic Doctor on "Star Trek: Voyager," appearing in 172 episodes over that show's seven seasons. Picardo, however, has been embarrassingly prolific, never having a fallow period since his...

After working their magic to bring Trick or Treat to 4K Ultra HD, Red Shirt Pictures and Synapse Films have announced six upcoming titles in the works.
The releases include: Fright Night Part II, Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II, Prom Night III: The Last Kiss, Prom Night IV: Deliver Us from Evil, 976-Evil II, and Angel of H.E.A.T.
“There are no release dates for any of these titles at this time,” Synapse writes, noting that Fright Night Part II will not be out in 2025.
“We can’t even say ‘Still in production. No release date.’ because several of them have not started production yet! Just as it was with Trick or Treat, Red Shirt Pictures will be overseeing the production of each release, while Synapse will oversee the audio/video and distribution of each title, all of which will be in production throughout 2025 and into 2026.”

In the dystopian, post-apocalyptic world of Panem, the society that remains is divided into districts. Once a year, tributes who are usually children are selected from each poor, agrarian district to compete in the wealthy, decadent Capitol in a gladiatorial combat spectacular called "The Hunger Games." It's a fight until only one competitor is left alive, and it's broadcast on national TV, making it almost as important for the competitors to be telegenic as it is for them to be deadly.
This is the premise of Suzanne Collins' original trilogy of Hunger Games novels, initially turned into a four-part film series. Jennifer Lawrence became a certified A-lister as protagonist Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers as tribute to save her little sister, and eventually escapes the games to lead a rebellion against the tyrannical President Snow (Donald Sutherland). Collins has since written two prequels, one of which has also become a film.

Star Trek: Lower Decks made T'Pol (Jolene Blalock) Star Trek's newest Dax, but it's unclear what this means for either character's future or if audiences will ever see it. In its fifth and final season on Paramount+, Star Trek: Lower Decks' USS Cerritos investigated a series of quantum fissures that had mysteriously opened up throughout the galaxy. The penultimate episode, "Fissure Quest," revealed that Section 31 had assigned Captain William Boimler (Jack Quaid) and a Star Trek legacy character crew of "interdimensional castaways" to discover the cause of these unstable connections to the multiverse.
Captain Boimler's ragtag crew was made up of several familiar faces from across Star Trek's vast timeline, including T'Pol and Curzon Dax (Fred Tatasciore), the Trill host for the Dax symbiont before Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Jadzia (Terry Farrell). Section 31 is one of the most mysterious and long-lasting ideas that Star Trek: Deep Space Nine added to Star Trek canon. This network of spies and secret agents does the United Federation of Planets' dirty work, pruning away any threats to the perfect paradise of Earth. The upcoming Star Trek: Section 31 movie promises to fill in details about the early history of Section 31, between Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation, but audiences first encountered Section 31 on Deep Space Nine from the perspective of Doctor Julian Bashir (Alexander Siddig).
The second episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine established Doctor Bashir loves mysteries and spying. He trades barbs and innuendos with Elim Garak (Andrew J. Robinson), plays a James-Bond-esque spy on the holosuite, and is even initially accused of being a Dominion spy during Section 31's first appearance. Doctor Bashir was poised to be a secret agent,...

Star Trek: Voyager got the movie fans wanted and financed. Produced by David Zappone's 455 Films, To The Journey: Looking Back At Star Trek: Voyager premiered at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles on November 7, 2024, and at Symphony Space in New York City on November 11. To The Journey screened for backers of the retrospective documentary's Indiegogo campaign, which raised over $1.2 million, making it the most successful Indiegogo fundraiser of all time.
The flagship series of the United Paramount Network (Upn), Star Trek: Voyager ran for seven seasons from 1995-2001. To The Journey will be released in 2025 to mark Voyager's 25th anniversary. Unlike Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager did not transition into feature films. However, Voyager delivered several two-part episodes throughout its seven seasons, which were TV movies in their own right. To The Journey's bi-coastal premieres was a chance for Voyager's most loyal fans to see it on the big screen.

Five years ago, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine teased season 8, which, unfortunately, can't happen. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ended in 1999 after seven seasons, wrapping up the saga of the space station commanded by Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks). Unlike Star Trek: The Next Generation, DS9 did not move on to become a movie franchise. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's cast went their separate ways, but the series lives on in streaming and found an even greater appreciation from audiences 30 years after it first aired.
In 2019, 455 Films released What We Left Behind: Looking Back At Deep Space Nine. Stephen King wasnt crowned The King of Horror for no reason. Most of his books fall under the genre, and they are so good that TV show creators and movie directors keep mining content. Consequently, King has become one of the most adapted authors, second only to the great William Shakespeare in the all-time rankings. However, some of his best books arent necessarily horror. Think of The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, which both morphed into some of the greatest movies.
The television landscape also has a few Stephen King productions that were adapted from the authors non-horror works. But no matter which genre they fall into, these shows still embody the suspense and tension that the author is known for. Most importantly, they have compelling stories, mostly because they dont tweak the author's vision too much.

Note: This story contains spoilers from “Matlock” Episode 1.
“Matlock” promised to be unlike any broadcast reboot we’ve seen before from the star, but that didn’t stop the CBS drama’s premiere episode twist from feeling any less shocking.
The series wasted no time to show how Madeline “Matty” Matlock (Kathy Bates) uses the societal tendency to overlook older women to her advantage, as she sleuthed her way into a job at a prestigious law firm in an effort to rebuild her career as a lawyer after decades away from the field. Throughout the premiere, Matty introduced herself to her reluctant new colleagues as a down-on-her-luck former attorney and widow who’s forced to return to the workforce as she is in need of making money so she can provide for her grandson, whom she’s raising after her daughter’s death a few year’s back.

"Replacing Jadzia with Ezri was a bold move that paid off for DS9, integrating her seamlessly into the final season." "DS9 created a very different Dax in Ezri, showcasing her insecurities and frustrations, making her essential to the show." "Ezri's presence honored Jadzia's memory and allowed the characters and audience to grieve and move on in a meaningful way."
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine pulled off a miracle by replacing Lt. Commander Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) with Lt. Ezri Dax (Nicole de Boer). Terry Farrell exited DS9 at the end of season 6, and the series chose to kill off her popular Jadzia Dax character. Recasting is an issue many television series have faced, but Star Trek: Deep Space Nine rose to the challenge by creating a new Dax character that turned out to be incredibly successful, especially in hindsight.
Terry Farrell left Star Trek: Deep Space Nine due to behind the scenes issues with Paramount.

It's been 25 years since Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ended, and the cast have gone on to do some great things in the years after "What You Leave Behind" aired. The character of Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" belongs to a species called the Trill. Many Trills are capable of conjoining with long-lived, surgically implanted, worm-like symbionts that live in their abdomens. The symbionts get passed from host to host during their lifetimes, sharing a consciousness with each one. Dax is partially a 22-year-old woman, but, thanks to her symbiont, also possesses the memories and personalities of seven previous hosts, including — most recently — a rowdy old man named Curzon. Captain Sisko (Avery Brooks) was friends with Curzon and was thrilled to meet Jadzia, the next incarnation in his friend's life. He affectionately called her "old man."
When "Deep Space Nine" began, the writers focused heavily on Dax's relationship with the young, idealistic Dr. Bashir (Alexander Siddig), an insufferably flirt. Dr. Bashir would frequently proposition Dax, and she, with the patience of a centuries-old sage, would rebuff him.

Kes and Seven of Nine's swap in Star Trek: Voyager was unique due to the franchise's consistent casts. Other character swaps in previous Star Trek shows didn't accomplish their switch in the same way, usually leaving it off-screen. Modern Star Trek series, like Discovery and Picard, have a different approach to swapping characters, focusing on serialized narratives.
Although it wasn't the franchise's first character swap, Star Trek: Voyager's Kes (Jennifer Lien) and Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) switch was more unique than character changes in other Star Trek projects. Voyager's cast of characters stayed mostly the same throughout the show's run, except for the departure of Kes and the introduction of Seven at the start of season 4. The swap happened over season 4's first two episodes, "Scorpion, Part II" and "The Gift," and was accomplished well, all things considered.

Alien species in Star Trek have evolved in appearance and culture over the franchise's 58-year history. Not all changes have been well-received by fans, as some retroactively added depth to alien species. Characters like Quark, Seven of Nine, and Saru have revolutionized our understanding of traditional Trek aliens.

Jadzia from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine did not need the Dax symbiote to shine as a Starfleet hero. The Trill race, unique in Star Trek, could have been just another "alien of the week," but was transformed into a compelling element of the franchise. Sons of Star Trek #2 pays tribute to Curzon and showcases Jadzia's badassery without the symbiote.
Warning: contains spoilers for Sons of Star Trek #2!
Star Trek has confirmed that Jadzia did not need the Dax symbiote to be a great Starfleet officer. The Trill are one of the most fascinating races in the Star Trek universe. Jadzia Dax, Deep Space Nines science officer, was a member of the Trill. The Dax symbiote gave Jadzia an advantage, but as seen in Sons of Star Trek #2, she did not need it to be a hero.
Sons of Star Trek #2 is written by Morgan Hampton and drawn by Angel Hernandez.

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 3, "Jinaal"
Trills in Star Trek: Discovery pay homage to DS9's iconic Dax, but lack depth compared to previous hosts. Discovery's portrayal focuses on Trill Guardians and rituals, missing the societal complexity seen in Deep Space Nine. Jinaal Bix stands out as a multi-layered Trill character in Discovery, hinting at changes in Trill society over the centuries.
Star Trek: Discovery's weird and secretive Trills are a welcome reminder of how cool Lt. Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) was in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. In Discovery season 5, episode 3, "Jinaal", Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) heads to Trill to collect the next clue in the hunt for the Progenitors' treasure. At the very end of the first season of "Star Trek: Picard," after the story had concluded and everyone was headed back home, the violent bounty hunter Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) and Admiral Picard's close friend Raffi (Michelle Hurd) sat idly conversing. They reached out and began romantically holding hands, implying that the characters were initiating a romance. Previously throughout "Star Trek," both Seven and Raffi had only been seen having romances with men, so their respective bisexuality came as a pleasant surprise.
Sadly, at the start of the second season of "Picard," enough time had passed that Seven and Raffi had already dated for a while ... and had broken up. There was now a great deal of romantic resentment between them, and they had to struggle to fulfill their mission in the 21st century (the second season featured a time travel plot). Supporting character deaths can ruin a show and play against the main characters. Some supporting character deaths leave a gap in the story that the show cannot fill, resulting in a decline in quality. The death of a beloved supporting character can lead to weaker storylines and a loss of emotional depth in a show.
Although death is often used to push the plot forward in TV shows, there have been some instances where the death of a supporting character has resulted in a series going downhill. A character can be killed off for many reasons, such as writers wanting to give audiences a shocking plot twist or an actor stepping away from the show to work on other projects. While a character's death is often a shock, it's always a shame when their departure causes the quality of a show to decline.

Ensign Ezri Dax was created as a smart solution to replace the beloved character of Lt. Commander Jadzia Dax in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The introduction of a new character late in the series could have been a disaster, but Nicole de Boer successfully pulled off the challenging role. Keeping the Dax character in the show was important, and Ezri Dax's unique approach to becoming a Trill made it one of the smartest decisions made by the production team.

Some movies with limited budgets may fall short due to inadequate production value, preventing them from achieving greatness. Low-budget films sometimes fail to fully realize their ambitious visions due to financial constraints, leaving them as adequate but not exceptional. Additional funding could have transformed good movies into masterpieces, enhancing elements like casting, special effects, missing scenes, or the overall aesthetic, resulting in a more immersive and memorable cinematic experience.
Some movies are just good enough to be enjoyable but lack the production value required to make them truly great — a problem usually stemming from an insufficient budget. These movies may have a moment with terrible special effects that take the viewer out of the immersive cinematic experience, or perhaps the limited budget caused something essential to be missing. If only the studios had spent a little more, they could have wound up with brilliant masterpieces instead of merely adequate films.

Being called "Star Trek for Girls" is a compliment to the creator, Mike McMahan, as he loves writing female characters and telling their stories in the Star Trek universe. The Star Trek franchise has a long history of strong female characters, from Lieutenant Uhura to Captain Kathryn Janeway, and the current generation of shows continues to showcase dynamic women. Star Trek: Lower Decks is a great example of positive and complex female characters, including Lieutenant Beckett Mariner, Lieutenant D'Vana Tendi, and Captain Freeman, proving that Star Trek is for everyone, regardless of gender.

Star Trek has leaned heavily into the franchise's renaissance in the late '80s and early '90s for its most recent projects. Star Trek: Picard concluded its three-season run with a glorious reunion of the crew from Star Trek: The Next Generation that still has fans buzzing. Star Trek: Voyager has received a good deal of attention as well, most prominently with Seven of Nine's strong presence on Picard but boosted by Kate Mulgrew in Star Trek: Prodigy and prominent franchise cameos from the likes of Tim Russ and Robert Duncan McNeill.
In the midst of it, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine has been left out a bit. The series carried a reputation as the neglected middle child of the trio, with brilliant stories and terrific characters who deserve a revisit as much as its siblings. That includes a bevy of fascinating pairings, one of whom never had a chance to interact.

Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2, Episode 1 - "The Broken Circle"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds needed a new Chief Engineer character for season 2, and the Paramount+ prequel series wisely didn't repeat how Star Trek: Deep Space Nine replaced Lt. Commander Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) with Lt. Ezri Dax (Nicole de Boer). Strange New Worlds season 1's Chief Engineer, Lt. Hemmer (Bruce Horak), was a breakout character who grew extremely popular. Unfortunately, Hemmer was always slated to die in Strange New Worlds season 1, and the blind Aenar was replaced by Commander Pelia (Carol Kane) in Strange New Worlds season 2.

Star Trek and Stargate are two of the most prolific and beloved science fiction franchises, and it is no surprise that actors would overlap between the two series. Both Star Trek and Stargate had shows running throughout most of the 1990s and early 2000s, and many actors made appearances on both shows. Star Trek and Stargate often borrowed episode titles and even plots from one another. Each Stargate series follows a different team of adventurers as they explore various planets by traveling through a massive Stargate that was discovered in the ruins of Giza.
The Stargate franchise began with the Stargate feature film in 1994 and would continue with three television series and two made-for-television movies. The first of these was Stargate: Sg-1 (which concluded with two movies), followed by Stargate: Atlantis, and Stargate: Universe. With ten seasons, Sg-1 was the longest-running genre show until the CW's Supernatural claimed that honor with its fifteen seasons.

There are multiple story ideas from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's hypothetical season 8 that can be made canon in the wider Star Trek universe. DS9 season 8 was conceived as part of the retrospective documentary What We Left Behind - Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The documentary reunited showrunner Ira Steven Behr with writers Ronald D. Moore, Robert Hewitt Wolfe, René Echevarria, and Hans Beimler to "break" the story for a possible reunion series. As well as providing insight into where the writers saw DS9's characters in the years since the series ended, it also provided a demonstration of how their writers' room worked back in the day.

Star Trek's greatest Klingon, Worf (Michael Dorn), rarely showed fear in Star Trek: The Next Generation or Star Trek: Picard, but he wasn't as intimidated by Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) as he was by a different bald Starfleet Captain. Worf was part of Tng's cast for all 7 seasons, and he appeared in all 4 Tng movies. After Star Trek Generations, however, Worf joined Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and the Klingon became a key part of the DS9 cast from seasons 4 to 7.
After Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ended, Worf became the Klingon Ambassador as part of the House of Chancellor Martok (J.G. The Dax symbiont in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine had nine official Trill hosts across the centuries, from Lela to Ezri Dax (Nicole de Boer). First introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation, the Trill were a humanoid species of whom a select few were chosen to join with a symbiont. The resultant symbiotic bond between the symbiont and its host meant that each host retained the memories of their predecessors. This allowed Lieutenant Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) to continue her friendship with Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) to whom her former host Curzon Dax had been a mentor.

Star Trek's first voyage of the Starship Enterprise was led by Captain Pike (Jeffrey Hunter), Number One (Majel Barrett), and Spock (Leonard Nimoy). Strange New...

Dax's death gave Star Trek: Deep Space Nine a near-impossible task for its final season, but the show succeeded in a big way. Behind-the-scenes conflict, an exhausting production schedule, and the offer of a role on Ted Danson sitcom Becker led to Terry Farrell departing the role of Jadzia Dax at the end of DS9 season 6. The character had become a much-loved member of the DS9 cast, and replacing her presented a daunting prospect. Fortunately, Jadzia Dax's Trill heritage allowed Farrell to be replaced with a new host, Ezri Dax, played by Nicole de Boer.
The Deep Space 9 approach to Trill allowed audiences the best of both worlds. Jadzia Dax was dead, and the impact of that loss was keenly felt by the DS9 crew throughout season 7. While Dax was replaced, therefore, the loss of Farrell's character was not glossed over. Because Trill symbionts move from host to host, Ezri...

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks" and the series finale of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine."
The latest episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks," called "Hear All, Trust Nothing," sees the U.S.S. Cerritos being called -- at the last minute -- to oversee a diplomatic mission with a species from the Gamma Quadrant. The negotiations involve a generous gift from the Federation -- many, many kegs of liquor -- and takes place on Deep Space Nine, a space station that, Trekkies know, had its very own seven-year-long TV series from 1993 to 1999.
As briefly as possible: "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" was set aboard a station that was built by the fascistic, militant Cardassians while they aggressively occupied Bajor, the planet below. When the Cardassian regime fell, the Bajorans took control of the station along with a retinue of Starfleet officers assigned to oversee Bajor's reconstruction.

Spoilers ahead for Star Trek: Discovery Season 4, Episode 8, “All In.”
In the 23rd century, Starfleet didn’t have ship counselors. So, when the USS Discovery jumped from 2258 to 3188, suddenly, Dr. Culber was given two jobs instead of one. And in Season 4 of Star Trek: Discovery, Culber’s new gig as ship’s counselor in addition to his regular job as a physician, has added a lot of extra stress. It’s one thing to mend those phaser burns, but quite something else to maintain the mental health of the Disco crew. As Discovery returns for the second half of Season 4, Wilson Cruz jumped on the phone to discuss Culber’s journey so far, his inspirations for his character’s journey, where Discovery Season 5 might take us, and why he has so much “pride” for the Strange New Worlds crew.
Although we’ve had a few new Star Trek series since Deep Space Nine,...
