Her little sister Debbie was killed on October 31, 1979 while crossing Beverly Boulevard at its intersection with June Street in Los Angeles. She was struck by a 1972 Mercedes-Benz 450SL automobile which was proceeding westbound on Beverly Boulevard. She was just shy of turning nine years old.
