Today, it was announced that screenwriter Billy Ray will deliver the keynote address at the Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting ceremony on Thursday, November 8, at the Beverly Wilshire. Ray, who co-wrote this summer’s “The Hunger Games,” also wrote and directed “Breach” (2007) and “Shattered Glass” (2003). He is the writer of “Captain Phillips,” starring Tom Hanks, which is scheduled for release in 2013. The Academy annually awards up to five Nicholl fellowships of $35,000 each. Selected from a record 7,197 scripts, it was announced today that five writers have been selected as winners of the 2012 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition. Each writer will receive a $35,000 prize, the first installment of which will be distributed at a gala dinner in Beverly Hills on November 8.

The Academy announces ten finalists for the 2012 Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition. The next step is having their scripts read and judged by the fellowship committee, which can choose to award up to five $35,00 fellowships. This year's finalists were chosen from 7,197 scripts, among them the first entry ever chosen from South Africa to advance this far. Susie Maroney has thrown a "lovely" christening for her daughter Capri. The Australian sports star, who is married to Darren May and also has 2-year-old daughter Paris with ex-husband Robert Daniels, enjoyed celebrations for the 9-month-old at St John Bosco Church and a nearby restaurant in Sydney with a few close family members before retiring to their Woronora home.
