Cherie Currie at an event for Les Runaways (2010)

Trivia

Cherie Currie

Edit
  • According to her autobiography, "Neon Angel", she and Jodie Foster got along real well during the making of Ça plane, les filles! (1980), but Jodie's mother was not all that interested in Jodie making friends with her.
  • Through the 1990s, she worked as a drug counselor for addicted teenagers and as a personal fitness trainer.
  • Collapsed onto her kitchen floor and burst into tears when she learned Dakota Fanning had signed to play her in Les Runaways (2010). Cherie later gave Dakota a custom-made guitar for her 16th birthday.
  • In 1989, Price Stern Sloan published her autobiography, "Neon Angel", telling of her life in the entertainment business and recovery from drug abuse. She is working on an update of her story, which includes her eight-year marriage to Robert Hays, motherhood, and her current relationships with Joan Jett, Lita Ford and the other members of The Runaways.
  • In July 2005, she entered chainsaw artist competitions all along the California coast and regularly placed in the top three.
  • In October 2013, she was awarded the Rock Legend Award at the 2013 Malibu Music Awards. Lita Ford presented the award to her and they reunited onstage after 35 years.
  • In 1975, when she was 16, she auditioned as lead singer for an all-girl rock band known as The Runaways. Managed by cult Hollywood figure Kim Fowley, the jailbait quintet also featured Joan Jett on rhythm guitar and vocals and Lita Ford on lead guitar. After two years with the group (and three records), she departed for a solo career, causing problems within the band.
  • Her son, Jake Hays, learned to play guitar well enough to be included in recording sessions, and as a member of her touring band.
  • In April 2004, she had reinvented herself once again, this time as a chainsaw artist. She opened her own gallery in Chatsworth, CA.
  • Was originally cast as Brenda in Les rues de l'enfer (1984) but was replaced by Linda Blair.
  • Is portrayed by Dakota Fanning in Les Runaways (2010).
  • Reportedly sang Suzi Quatro's version of "Fever" when she auditioned for The Runaways.
  • Released an album with drummer Brie Howard, "The Motivator" (2019).
  • Growing up, Cherie enjoyed singers David Bowie and Eric Carmen.
  • "Bomp!" magazine described her as "the lost daughter of Iggy Pop and Brigitte Bardot".
