The Lion King Was Originally Titled ‘King Of The Jungle’ Until Disney Realized This Major Mistake!
Image
The Lion King’s Original Title, Scrapped Scenes & Forgotten Songs Will Leave You Stunned ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Disney’s The Lion King wasn’t always the roaring success we remember. In fact, it was almost called King of the Jungle, per sources. The catch? Lions don’t live in the jungle. Once the creators realized this, the iconic title was changed, setting the stage for what’d become one of Disney’s most beloved animated classics.

Almost 25 years ago, The Lion King introduced us to the circle of life, hakuna matata, and the savanna’s most intense sibling rivalry. As Disney prepared for the live-action remake, it was the perfect time to look back on the original’s legacy and uncover its most surprising secrets.

Back in production, The Lion King was overshadowed by Pocahontas. Many top animators jumped to work on Pocahontas, expecting it to be the bigger hit.

This article delves into the film’s narrative, its connection to Dickens’ work, the ensemble cast, and its broader impact.

What Is the Movie About?

The King of Kings is an animated film that tells the story of Jesus Christ through the perspective of Charles Dickens narrating to his son, Walter. Spider-Man Star Accuses Disney of Sabotaging 'The Spectacular Spider-Man'
Image
The leading actor from The Spectacular Spider-Man shared new insight into how Disney sabotaged the fan-favorite '90s web-slinger series. The series had a two-season run in the late 2000s on The CW and Disney Xd, but even with all the success it garnered from Marvel fans, it could have been so much more if decisions had been made differently.

Spider-Man star Josh Keaton spoke out on how Disney sabotaged the efforts of The Spectacular Spider-Man during its run on TV. Keaton earned massive praise for his work as Peter Parker in this animated series. However, he saw the inner workings behind the scenes and realized how the show's parent company put forth little effort into helping it succeed.

Speaking with voice acting legend Jim Cummings on the Toon'd In podcast, Keaton explained how the show was cut short, as it aired near the time when "Disney was going to buy Marvel.

Hear me out, Star Wars: Tales of the Do's
Image
Tales of the Underworld has come and gone, kicking off the new speculation cycle of what the next Star Wars: Tales will be. So far, we've covered two Jedi who left the Jedi Order, two Imperials who gave in to hate or went to the light, and two fan favorite bounty hunters. So, I'd like to take a moment to pitch the next entry of the Tales franchise:

Tales of the Do's!

This idea first came from my co-podcaster in an off-hand joke. It was so off-hand that I still can't find which episode he brought it up. The basic idea of "Tales of the Do's" is Lando Calrissian and Hondo Ohnaka getting to be the scoundrel types they are, doing whatever they want.

The fun part of Tales of the Do's is that we know Hondo and Lando were both operating at the same time. Instead of the normal...

How Tigger saved millions of lives
Image
If you're familiar with Winnie the Pooh and the rest of his pals from the Hundred Acre Wood, then you already know about his bouncy friend, Tigger, by extension. Arguably just as popular as his willy-nilly-silly-old bear counterpart, Tigger is arguably one of Disney's most popular characters.

Fans know Tigger as the bouncy, flouncy, trouncy, pouncy, fun-fun-fun-fun-fun member of Pooh's posse, but what they might not know is how Tigger was uniquely responsible for an invention that saves an estimated 10,000 people each year.

"Tigger" gives his heart to the world

Before Jim Cummings became the current voice actor for Tigger, the role was originated by comedian and ventriloquist Paul Winchell. A popular TV personality, Winchell's distinct vocal stylings made him an ideal choice for the "exuberant" character of Tigger.

Although many will know Winchell for his work in movies and television. The world will know him as one of the...

Interview with Thomas Percy Kim: You Learn By Doing
Image
Korean adoptee feature film, “Isle Child” made its world premiere in San Francisco as a part of the Sf International Film Festival, where we caught the young director, Thomas Paul Kim. At only 24 years old set with support from Cj, Sundance, and HBO, he stands at the cusp of a prolific career ahead.

The film was based off of Kim’s own personal experience in Concord, Massachusetts, where he was one of few Asian Americans growing up. “In an age so hungry for love and belonging, you want to fit in, right? So I, for the longest time, tried to act like I was white – and so was Si.”

“Isle Child” revolves around a Korean adoptee of the same name, “Si”. Here, Si is “one of the boys.” In this white-majority town, Si plays baseball, talks shop about college, and is comfortably surrounded by his peers. His carefully-built suburban world rattles,...

New Biblical Movie Crosses Major Global Box Office Milestone On 2025 Chart
Image
While they are not always popular in the mainstream, faith-based movies have the potential to do well at the box office. Some of these titles are overtly religious, such as the 2024 Alan Ritchson drama Ordinary Angels. Other titles that get looped in the faith-based subcategory are less overtly God-infused but still resonate with Christian messaging. One such success is Sound of Freedom, a 2023 movie about a government agent who attempts to rescue children from child traffickers. Sound of Freedom made a remarkable $250.5 million at the worldwide box office.

2025 has already been strong for Christian-centric works. Episodes of the Biblical series The Chosen: Last Supper were released in theaters and performed remarkably well, given that they were also slated to hit the small screen. These episodes ended up making just shy of $25 million worldwide, makingThe Chosen the no. 30 highest-grossing title at the 2025 box office. Now, another faith-based title is succeeding at the box office,...

Animated Movie Dethrones Bong Joon Ho’s ‘Parasite’ as Highest Grossing Korean Film in America
Image
Bong Joon Ho’s 2019 comedy thriller Parasite was a masterpiece, which not only defied expectations by its box office performance but also became the first non-English language film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, among several other accolades and three additional Oscars. Considered one of the best films of all time, the acclaimed film is no longer the highest-grossing Korean film in the United States.

In a surprising turn of events, the Korean animated film The King of Kings has surpassed Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite within days of its release. Directed by Jang Sung-ho and featuring a star-studded voice cast, including Oscar Isaac and Mark Hamill, the 3D animated film has captivated audiences with its unique narrative and high production quality.

It Was a Very Good Box Office Weekend for Jesus
Image
He is risen indeed. One week before Easter, three of the top 10 titles at the box office this weekend were faith-based stories about the life of Jesus Christ, including Angel Studios’ animated “The King of Kings” as well as “The Chosen: Last Supper” Parts 2 and 3, as released by Fathom Entertainment.

“The King of Kings” opened to $19.3 million this weekend from 3,200 screens, finishing No. 2 behind “A Minecraft Movie,” which had a strong second weekend and only dropped 50 percent for another staggering $80.6 million haul, bringing its domestic total to $280.9 million.

And for “The Chosen,” Part 3 of Season 5 opened this weekend and finished sixth, bringing in $6 million domestic, while Part 2 held on to the No. 10 spot and made $932,000. To date through its third weekend in theaters, all three sets of episodes have grossed a combined $36.3 million, including $19.3 million for Part 1. New Jesus Christ Movie Almost Loses Fresh Status on Rotten Tomatoes, but the Audience Score Paints a Different Picture
Image
Over the years, there have been multiple projects about Jesus Christ. Whether it's Mel Gibson's critically acclaimed 2004 film The Passion of the Christ, the limited series Jesus of Nazareth, or 1988's The Last Temptation of Christ, there have been plenty of projects to follow the religious figure.

Ahead of Easter, a new film following the life of Jesus Christ premiered in theaters: The Kings of Kings. However, the movie is an animated film aimed at children, with Oscar Isaac voicing the main character. Following its debut in theaters, the movie had a positive Rotten Tomatoes score from the critics, but it's now close to losing its "fresh" status, while the audience couldn't disagree more.

The King of Kings debuted with a positive score of 76% from the critics on the review-aggregator website. The score was encouraging enough, but, as more reviews came in, the animated film's rating started to worsen.

'It Wasn't A Mistake': Power Rangers Star Defends Casting After Retroactive Controversy

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers head writer Tony Oliver recently called out the casting mistakes made in the original ensemble. Actor Walter Emanuel Jones addressed the controversy and revealed how he became the Black Ranger.

Walter Emanuel Jones aired his side on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangerscasting controversy; he said it was an honor to be the first actor to have played the Black Ranger. Jones acknowledged the media coverage on Instagram and challenged Mmpr head writer Tony Oliver's comments. In an episode of Investigation Discovery's Hollywood Demons, Oliver recounted the TV show's troubled production. He asserted that none of them were thinking stereotypes about the original ensemble, until an assistant pointed out that having Black and Asian characters as the Black and Yellow Rangers was problematic.

The Multiverse Trend Finally Got The Horror Movie It So Desperately Needs
Image
The phrase "breaking the cycle" typically signifies putting an end to a repetitive pattern of damaging behaviors — whether it be cycles of abuse, addiction, oppression, trauma, or grief. As destructive as the cycle may be, it's difficult to break out of for reasons that go beyond the systemic forces keeping people trapped within. After all, there's also an odd sense of familiarity that often paralyzes us from wanting to try something different. Even if it's bad for us, at least we can predict the outcome and prepare for what it brings. In Kevin and Matthew McManus' "Redux Redux," a mother named Irene Kelly (Michaela McManus) has invested in a machine sold on the black market that gives her the ability to jump between parallel universes of our world. Multiverse stories are having a huge moment, but Irene isn't transporting herself for curiosity's sake or to defeat an interdimensional villain; she's...

Jim Cummings Teases 'Star Wars' Return as Hondo Ohnaka in New Project
Image
Legendary voice actor Jim Cummings teases that his beloved Star Wars character, Hondo Ohnaka, will be making another appearance soon. Cummings is an industry veteran known for providing the voices of Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Darkwing Duck, and many more. He is also part of the Star Wars franchise, voicing the space pirate Hondo Ohnaka. Ohnaka first appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, with Cummings reprising his role in Star Wars: Rebels and in the Disney theme park attraction, Smugglers Run.

Speaking with Comic Book Movie, Cummings confirmed that his days as Hondo Ohnaka are not done. The actor revealed he did some recent facial recognition work for the character on an upcoming Star Wars project but did not specify which one. Due to Hondo having appeared in projects ranging from The Clone Wars to the Smuggler's Run, he could theoretically show up in a wide variety of Star...

King Of Kings' Jim Cummings Has Done Hondo Ohnaka "Facial Recognition" For New Star Wars Project (Exclusive)
Image
Jim Cummings is an icon. The actor has served as the official voice of Winnie the Pooh since 1988, Tigger since 1989, and the Tasmanian Devil since 1991. However, that barely scratches the surface, as he also counts the likes of Darkwing Duck and Hondo Ohnaka among his many credits.

We first met the latter character in The Clone Wars, and the popularity of the pirate and smuggler later saw him featured heavily in Star Wars Rebels. He's even put centre stage as an incredibly realistic animatronic as part of the "Smuggler's Run" ride in Disneyland and Disney World.

We recently talked to Cummings about his work in Angel Studios' King of Kings and wondered whether the door is open to him potentially voicing Hondo in a live-action Star Wars project. There's a precedent for that as The Book of Boba Fett saw Corey Burton reprise his role as bounty hunter, Cad Bane.

On the open road (again!): Celebrating A Goofy Movie
Image
One of the most iconic (yet underrated) Disney movies of the '90s was A Goofy Movie, and yesterday marked it's 30th anniversary. So, naturally, Disney had to go all out and remind us just why it's such a "stand-out" film.

We've seen tons of merch, the resurgence of Powerline, and much more, but Disney surprised us all by reuniting our favorite pair of Goofs, Bill Farmer (Goofy) and Jason Marsden (Max) for a zany road trip down memory lane!

Disney's voice actors remember going Goofy

Bill Farmer and Jason Marsden have been the performers behind a wide variety of iconic characters, but the roles that will stick with them forever are as Goofy and Max in A Goofy Movie and other pieces of Disney media. However, the footage below shares a more intimate look at the film from its two leads.

As pointed out in the video, Farmer and...

Disney has the perfect video game series to bring to the big screen soon!
Image
Video game movies are hot and that makes it the perfect time for Disney to bring a beloved game series to the big screen!

For a long time, movies based on video games didn't have the best track record. With the exception of 1995's Mortal Kombat and the Resident Evil series, the genre has been hit with multiple bombs and critically ravaged films.

Disney themselves know that. In 1993, they released Super Mario Bros under its Hollywood Studios Banner, which regularly tops the list of the worst video game movies. It was everything that fans have slammed about these movies: Terrible casting, a plot bearing almost no resemblance to the games, a lousy script, and everything coming together in the worst way.

In Disney's defense, they're not the only ones who have made this mistake with other video game movie flops. However, the last few years has seen the tide turning.

"Let's Get Dangerous!" Disney's 'Darkwing Duck' Reboot Is Apparently Still Alive
Image
It's been five years since the Darkwing Duck reboot was first announced by Disney. Initially airing in 1991, the DuckTales spin-off follows a crime fighter who yearns for fame and recognition. While there have been few updates since the reboot's announcement, the project hasn't been shelved yet.

In a report made by The Disinsider, it stated that the show is still in the works, but the report also suggests a formerly in development TaleSpin reboot has been shelved. Unfortunately, there is no word on when it will come out or when production on Darkwing Duck will begin. According to ComicBook.com, this report aligns with a fan on social media who met Jim Cummings at LA Con in 2024, confirming that it's still happening and that he will be voicing the duck crime fighter in the show.

When the Darkwing Duck reboot was first announced, it was reported to be released on Disney+,...

Disney icon shares how Tigger found his voice

Even if you don't know who Jim Cummings is, you definitely know his voice. Cummings has been a professional voice actor for decades and has provided a legion of characters for the Walt Disney Company. Although Darkwing Duck and Bonkers D. Bobcat have their fans, there's a special place in all of our hearts for Tigger and Pooh.

Jim Cummings has been the voice of the willy-nilly-silly-old-bear since 1988's The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh animated series, but he wasn't Tigger until he took the reigns from his original performer, filling a pair of very big (and bouncy) shoes in the process.

As Sundance Moves to Boulder, Hollywood Is Optimistic About a Much-Needed Festival Shakeup
Image
It’s the end of Sundance as we know it and Hollywood feels … fine.

The indie film festival, created by Robert Redford in the 1970s but facing a crossroads in recent years with low sales and few breakout hits, is moving to Boulder, Colorado, starting in 2027.

Boulder, which rests about 30 miles north of Denver, beat out a Salt Lake City/Park City hybrid and Cincinnati, Ohio, in the final round of bidding. All of the industry insiders who spoke to TheWrap said the choice was solid, the change welcome and the move absolutely necessary for the long-running festival.

“It’s kind of sad not to go to a Sundance in Park City, but I am also kind of excited about the possibilities and maybe improvements in a different location,” Carla Gutierrez, a filmmaker and editor who’s been going to Sundance since 2004 and most recently attended with her documentary “Frida” in 2024, told TheWrap.

Tiana Series Scrapped As Disney Animation Moves Away From Longform Streaming Content
Image
Walt Disney Animation Studios has officially scrapped its Tiana series, which was set to serve as a follow-up to The Princess and The Frog.

According to THR, the project was cancelled as part of the studio's new strategy, which involves moving away from all original longform animated content for the Disney+ streaming service. A spokesperson confirmed there "will be some layoffs in its Vancouver studio as a result of this shift in business strategy."

In addition to Tiana, an untitled feature-length project has also been shelved.

First announced back in 2020, Tiana was being developed as a musical featuring Anika Noni Rose reprising her lead role from the 2009 animated film. The trade report mentions that, despite best efforts, "including several changes to the creative team, Tiana ultimately could not get to where it needed to be given production costs."

Apparently, The Princess and the Frog is still a key property for the company,...

‘Tiana’ Musical Series Not Moving Forward At Disney+
Image
Walt Disney Animation Studios has decided not to move forward with Tiana, an animated musical series offshoot of The Princess and the Frog movie set for Disney+, Deadline has confirmed.

While Disney did not respond to request for comment today over the Tiana series cancellation, sources confirm that going forward neither animation studio will be providing long form content for Disney +.

With a Tiana original special now the focus, we hear, it seems that creatively a Tiana series had been going nowhere fast for several years. That creative funk was why all we’ve seen the past four years is a single image from the proposed Tiana series.

First announced in December 2020, the project was expected to feature Anika Noni Rose reprising her role as Tiana from the 2009 film The Princess and the Frog, which revolved around Disney’s first Black princess.

Set in New Orleans during the 1920s,...

Disney Cancels the Sequel to 1 of the Best Animated Movies of the 2000s After 5 Years of Development
Image
The Princess and the Frog sequel series has been scrapped at Disney+. Titled Tiana, the streaming exclusive would have brought back Anika Noni Rose as the voice of Disney's first Black princess, Tiana.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Walt Disney Animation Studios has officially pulled the plug on Tiana as it abandons making original long-form content for Disney+. Sources close to the project revealed that despite best efforts, including several changes to the creative team, the animation studio couldn't get Tiana where it needed to be given its budget. The decision to scrap Tiana in its entirety comes as a bit of a surprise, given that Disney recently found success at the box office with Moana 2, which was announced alongside Tiana back in 2020 as a Disney+ series before ultimately being reworked into a feature-length animated sequel.

‘Redux Redux’ Teaser: ‘American Vandal’ Writers’ Revenge Thriller Is ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ Meets ‘Happy Death Day’
Image
Emmy-nominated directors and “American Vandal” co-writers Kevin and Matthew McManus are back at SXSW with a revenge thriller that calls to mind another filmmaking duo: The Daniels.

The McManus brothers co-wrote and co-directed “Redux Redux,” an action film that spans various multiverses. That dash of Daniels’ Best Picture-winning “Everything Everywhere All at Once” could make “Redux Redux” one of the buzziest titles at SXSW 2025.

The official synopsis for “Redux Redux” reads: “In an attempt to avenge her daughter’s death, Irene Kelly travels through parallel universes, killing her daughter’s murderer over and over again. She grows addicted to the revenge streak, putting her own humanity in jeopardy.”

Michaela McManus leads the film, along with supporting turns from Stella Marcus, Jim Cummings, Taylor Misiak, Grace Van Dien, and Jeremy Holm.

“Redux Redux” is debuting at SXSW as a sales title. The McManus duo previously premiered their dark comedy feature “Funeral...

The Last Stop In Yuma County

When it first emerged in 2023, indie thriller The Last Stop In Yuma County didn’t have a big platform, despite screening at the likes of Fantastic Fest, but it did wow audiences wherever it went, gradually building up a cult following – and with good reason. The début directorial feature from Francis Galluppi, it’s funny, stylish, clever, packed with unforgettable characters and gripping throughout. Now it’s finally becoming available to viewers in the UK, thanks to a Blu-ray release from Arrow.

Meeting stars Jim Cummings (who plays a hapless knife salesman) and Richard Brake (who plays a bank robber on the run), I told them that one of the reasons I think I haven’t been able to get it out of my head is that in all the months since I first saw it I haven’t been able to figure out...
