  • Was the second choice for the role of Holling Vincoeur in Bienvenue en Alaska (1990), after Robert Fuller chose not to do the role.
  • A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Cullum also was a standout tennis player, winning the 1951 Southeastern Conference doubles championship with Bill Davis.

  • John Cullum was nominated for the 2007 Tony Award (New York City) for Supporting or Features Actor in a Musical for "110 in the Shade".
  • Played Cardinal Bernard Law in Michael Murphy's play "Sin (A Cardinal Deposed)," about the sex abuse scandal in the Boston Archdiocese.
  • He was nominated for a 1973 Joseph Jefferson Award for Best Guest Artist for his performance in "The Lady's Not for Burning" at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, Illinois.
