  • Long regarded as one of the finest studio guitarists in the music industry, he has been most closely associated with the Stax Records label in Memphis, TN, and was one of the pioneers in what has come to be regarded as "The Memphis Sound".

  • A high-school classmate at Messick High (Memphis, TN) of Cecelia Chilton, sister of Alex Chilton (The Box Tops, Big Star).
  • During the Blues Brothers cover of Soul Man, Jake (John Belushi) says "Play it Steve." to him just like Dave (of Sam & Dave) did during the original record.
