Harry Crane, whose career began in stand-up comedy at the age of nineteen, was a very prolific screenwriter for movies and television over a span of fifty years. After beginning in stand-up comedy, Crane became a screenwriter for MGM Studios. He wrote scripts for movies such as Laurel et Hardy chefs d'îlots (1943), which starred Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. The long list of famous actors with whom he has worked or for whom he has written include Red Skelton, the Marx Brothers, Bing Crosby and Jackie Gleason. In 1955, he was co-creator of Gleason's classic television series The Honeymooners (1955). He has written humorous material for singers such as Frank Sinatra and even politicians such as Robert F. Kennedy.
