There is no Toxic Avenger without Lloyd Kaufman — and that includes writer-director Macon Blair‘s new take on the cult classic.

In addition to serving as a producer on the superhero horror-comedy reboot, the Toxic Avenger creator makes a cameo in the film as The Hospital Grump.

“Macon gave Uncle Lloyd a wonderful cameo — much better than James Gunn does,” Kaufman jokes with Bloody Disgusting.

“My father used to say, ‘If you rub the back of a hunchback, you have good luck,'” he adds. “With James Gunn and some of the other people who’ve come out of Troma, I’m that hunchback. I haven’t told Macon about that, but he has to rub my hunchback.”

After Lloyd Kaufman gave him his start in the industry, James Gunn has repaid the Troma president with cameos in all of his films, from Slither and Guardians of the Galaxy to a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance in Superman.

The upcoming Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, promises to bring back what fans loved most about the original show, according to Brendan Wayne, one of the actors who plays Din Djarin.

Since the Star Wars sequel trilogy ended with mixed reactions, The Mandalorian became a huge hit, creating a whole new story within the Star Wars universe.

This new movie will end Star Wars’ seven-year break from theaters and continues right after The Mandalorian season 3. In that season, Din Djarin officially adopts Grogu, and they set up a home on Nevarro, working as bounty hunters for the New Republic.

Season 3, however, received a lot of criticism. Fans were unhappy about Din and Grogu’s reunion happening off-screen, and they felt the show didn’t focus enough on their bond. Some episodes like “The Convert” and “Guns For Hire” felt out of place.

But what made director Macon Blair choose Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage for the lead role of this remake of the classic Troma Entertainment property? Simply, he likes him.

During a short interview at San Diego Comic-Con, Blair was asked his reasons for making Dinklage the star of his movie by The Hollywood Reporter, to which he replied:

The first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger remake was released in October 2023. Things went quiet after that, though reviews from various film festivals heaped praise on filmmaker Macon Blair's take on Toxie. 

A full trailer for the movie has been released (via FearHQ.com), and there's plenty of unhinged violence and a level of craziness that promises to make this another cult classic. Whether it has widespread appeal is another matter, but it likely didn't cost much to produce and stands a good chance of making a tidy little profit.

Given their popularity and season 3's open-ended conclusion, it's not hugely surprising that the House of Mouse is eager to cash in on The Mandalorian's success by shifting focus from streaming subscribers to box office revenue.

Six years since The Rise of Skywalker was released, getting Star Wars back into theaters, after Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy essentially turned it into a small screen property, has become a priority for Disney CEO Bob Iger.

Why? Well, Moana 2 was originally a Disney+ TV series and grossed over $1 billion last year; Lilo & Stitch was similarly destined for streaming, only to break box office records over Memorial Day weekend.

We’re now more than two years removed from what might be the final season of The Mandalorian, and although there may not be another season of the Disney+ show, the story of Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu is far from over. Another teaser for The Toxic Avenger has been released, and this latest look at Macon Blair's upcoming remake/reimagining of the Troma classic focuses on the villainous Fritz Garbinger (Elijah Wood) band, "The Killer Nutz."

Unfortunately for these monstercore rockers, Toxie (Peter Dinklage) is not a fan, and shows up at their concert to dispense some hilariously gruesome justice.

The Toxic Avenger debuted its first trailer back in October of 2023 before completely dropping off the radar. Sa fan-favorite character from Star Wars: The Mandalorian seems poised to return amid rumors of a potential The Mandalorian and Grogu appearance. Acclaimed actor Katee Sackhoff offers an encouraging update on whether fans will see Mandalore ruler Bo-Katan Kryze again.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Sackhoff insisted Bo-Katan is appearing "in some form," though when The Mandalorian and Grogu was mentioned, she smiled and pretended to be oblivious to the news of the Jon Favreau film wrapping production last December.

"You will see her again in some form. That's all you need to know," she said. Sackhoff also joked that she has job security in the Star Wars universe thanks to her connections with Dave Filoni, the sci-fi franchise's long-time producer. "Dave Filoni cannot get rid of me, because Bo Katan is based off of his wife, so I've got some job security," she said.

Of the plethora of Star Wars projects that are in development at Disney, the only one that we know for sure that’s coming out next year is The Mandalorian & Grogu, which has a release date of May 22, 2026. The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to become the first Star Wars movie to hit theaters since 2019, and one of the newcomers to the galaxy far, far away is the legendary Sigourney Weaver. No stranger to science fiction herself, Weaver is at this weekend's Star Wars Celebration convention in Tokyo, Japan. Collider's Steve Weintraub is there, too, and he had a chance to talk to Weaver about her character in the film. Weaver discussed her character, whose name has yet to be revealed, and how she relates to the titular bounty hunter and his young apprentice:

It’s not uncommon for Lucasfilm to bring the stars of Star Wars to the stage of the Star Wars Celebration fan festivals. But few expected an animatronic of The Mandalorian’s breakout character, Grogu, to step out and wave his hand alongside his costars Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver.

That was the scene this week in Tokyo where the trio appeared at Star Wars Celebration for the first official look at The Mandalorian and Grogu, the upcoming big-screen continuation of the Emmy-winning The Mandalorian Disney+ series. While the footage hasn’t been shared online yet, it offers a taste of what fans can expect to see.

With Disney looking to increase theatrical revenue after spending years shoring up its streaming offerings on Disney+ (to great expense), The Mandalorian season 4 has transformed into The Mandalorian and Grogu.

The movie will bring Din Djarin and "The Child" to the big screen, and at Star Wars Celebration in Japan yesterday evening, fans were shown a first look. As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, that's now leaked online and can be viewed by following this link.

The trailer opens with Mando laying waste to a squad of Imperials aboard an At-at before the bounty hunter reports back to Sigourney Weaver's New Republic pilot. The admittedly grainy image showcases the hulking, sluggish Rotta raising his arms in what appears to be some sort of arena. The character, who is voiced by The Bear star Jeremy Allen White, will be making his live-action, silver screen debut next summer when The Mandalorian & Grogu arrives in theaters on May 22, 2026.

The debut footage for the first Star Wars movie in seven years has now been seen by fans.

Lucasfilm and Disney revealed the first-look at The Mandalorian & Grogu, the Star Wars film spun off from Disney+’s The Mandalorian TV series, at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Japan. Jon Favreau, who directed the movie and co-wrote it with Star Wars guru Dave Filoni, were on hand to introduce it.

In the action-heavy footage, the audience sees snowtroopers inside an At-at preparing to engage in battle. Then, in what appears to be a sort of homage to the opening of the original 1977 movie, in which Rebels prepared for, and then were massacred by, invading stormtroopers, the Mandalorian cuts open into the hull of the At-at, then, in one continuous take, blasts, stabs, pyros, and fights his way through the snowtroopers, making his way through the hull and then hallway, ending at the door of the cockpit,...

Hot Toys Collectibles is making Star Wars: The Mandalorianbigger than ever with a life-size Grogu figure.

In a March 26 Instagram post from the official Hot Toys Collectibles social media account, the company unveiled their upcoming Grogu Life-Size Collectible Figure. Per the post, "The skillfully crafted collectible figure is based on Grogu’s appearance in The Mandalorian, featuring a newly developed head sculpt with white fabric hair, a newly designed body with articulated arms and legs for collectors to pose Grogu realistically, a carefully tailored fabric robe, and a crossbody bag that any Grogu's parent can use to travel with Grogu as a clan of two, everywhere without boundaries."

Back in 1984, Troma Entertainment brought the world The Toxic Avenger (watch it Here), a film about “the first superhero from New Jersey.” That film spawned a franchise, leading to The Toxic Avenger Part II (1989), The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie (1989), Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV (2000), a stage musical, and an animated series called Toxic Crusaders. For a long time, we’ve been hearing that Troma wanted to make a Toxic Avenger 5 – but instead doing that, they have loaned out the rights to Legendary Pictures, allowing them to make a remake of the original film that’s set to reach theatres on August 29th, courtesy of Cineverse. After years without a distributor, Peter Dinklage’s Toxic Avenger is finally coming out. And what’s more, we have a trailer to enjoy.

After a couple of years of uncertainty, Macon Blair’s adaptation of The Toxic Avenger is finally headed towards general release. Whilst the film did make a brief appearance back in 2023 with a teaser trailer, but the film is reportedly very violent – so violent in fact that it struggled to find a US distributor in 2023. We got a brief teaser for the film, and since then, nothing.

However, Blair is a talented director having helmed the Netflix thriller I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore to very positive notices. Likewise, the film’s star Peter Dinklage has raised the quality bar on many a project too, so hopes were always high that eventually somebody would swoop in to pick up the film for distribution...

While Disney+ was a success when it launched in 2019, it didn't take the House of Mouse long to reach a point where spending hundreds of millions of dollars on content wasn't paying off when it came to attracting new, paying subscribers. 

Since taking over as Disney CEO from Bob Chapek, Bob Iger has concluded that there's more money to be made in theaters and, so far, he's been proven correct. 

The Moana TV series was transformed into a movie that grossed over $1 billion last year and the highly anticipated Lilo & Stitch has gone from being a streaming title to a theatrical release. As for The Mandalorian season 4, that's now The Mandalorian and Grogu. 

The movie was filmed in California and, like the TV series, made use of the Volume to cut down on pricey location shoots.

‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ is a Star Wars movie directed by Jon Favreau, co-written with Dave Filoni, and follows the Disney+ series ‘The Mandalorian.’ Starring Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, and Jonny Coyne, it’s produced by Lucasfilm and will be distributed by Disney.

Originally planned as the fourth season of the series, the project shifted to a movie due to delays from the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes. Filming started in California in August 2024 and wrapped by December, with the film set to release on May 22, 2026.

Pedro Pascal returns as Din Djarin, the Mandalorian bounty hunter, alongside Grogu, his young companion, brought to life with animatronics and visual effects.
