Luisa Guerreiro in The Toxic Avenger (2023)
‘The Toxic Avenger’ Will Have Your Back Even If Your Health Insurance Doesn’t [Clip]
Luisa Guerreiro in The Toxic Avenger (2023)
Beyond the monster dong, butt guts, and bodily fluids, The Toxic Avenger continues in the franchise’s tradition of social commentary. Get a hint of its satirization of the health care industry in the clip below.

The fresh take on Troma’s 1984 cult classic opens in theaters unrated on August 29.

Produced by The Toxic Avenger creator Lloyd Kaufman, the superhero horror comedy is written and directed by Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore).

Downtrodden janitor Winston Gooze is exposed to a catastrophic toxic accident, transforming him into a mutant vigilante. Toxie must rise from outcast to savior, taking on ruthless corporate overlords and corrupt forces who threaten his son, his friends, and his community.

The Toxic Avenger remake’s “monster dong” scene reportedly making theatres nervous
Macon Blair
Fans have been waiting a long time to see writer/director Macon Blair’s remake of the Troma cult classic The Toxic Avenger (watch it Here), which wrapped filming way back in 2021 and unveiled a teaser trailer near the end of 2023, around the time it had its world premiere screening – but we won’t have to wait much longer. At the start of the year, it was announced that Cineverse had acquired the distribution rights with the intention of giving the film a wide unrated release, and they’re aiming for an August 29th theatrical release. This was a great turn of events for a film that, for a while, was being referred to as unreleasable due to its wild sense of humor and gory effects (including a scene that’s called the “butt guts” scene). Now, our friends at Bloody Disgusting report that some theatres are getting nervous about...

Lloyd Kaufman Reveals His ‘Toxic Avenger’ Cameo in the Wake of Cameo in James Gunn’s ‘Superman’
Image
There is no Toxic Avenger without Lloyd Kaufman — and that includes writer-director Macon Blair‘s new take on the cult classic.

In addition to serving as a producer on the superhero horror-comedy reboot, the Toxic Avenger creator makes a cameo in the film as The Hospital Grump.

“Macon gave Uncle Lloyd a wonderful cameo — much better than James Gunn does,” Kaufman jokes with Bloody Disgusting.

“My father used to say, ‘If you rub the back of a hunchback, you have good luck,'” he adds. “With James Gunn and some of the other people who’ve come out of Troma, I’m that hunchback. I haven’t told Macon about that, but he has to rub my hunchback.”

After Lloyd Kaufman gave him his start in the industry, James Gunn has repaid the Troma president with cameos in all of his films, from Slither and Guardians of the Galaxy to a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance in Superman.

Toxic Avenger Resurrects Iconic 35-Year-Old Piece of Movie Lore
Image
Peter Dinklage's Toxic Avengerhas officially resurrected the Moviefone telephone line more than a decade after it closed.

Per Bloody Disgusting, the long-lost Moviefone telephone line has officially returned. Rather than hearing the iconic "Hello, and welcome to Moviefone!" automated message, however, callers will instead be greeted by none other than Dinklage himself in the form of Toxie. Since the promotion between Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting began on Aug. 1, fans have been able call 1-802-377-film to hear Peter Dinklage in character as he reads show-times for the film, offers tips on purchasing tickets, and re-enacts scenes from the trailer for the upcoming The Toxic Avenger reboot.

Cineverse SVP of Marketing Lauren McCarthy said of the promotion, "We are thrilled to bring fans (writer-director) Macon Blair’s hilarious, punk-rock, heart-warming film alongside the imitable nostalgia of the Moviefone number. This toxi-rific pairing is just the latest installment in our...

Brendan Wayne Says The Mandalorian and Grogu Are Returning to Their Roots & What Fans Loved The Most With the Upcoming Movie
Image
The upcoming Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, promises to bring back what fans loved most about the original show, according to Brendan Wayne, one of the actors who plays Din Djarin.

Since the Star Wars sequel trilogy ended with mixed reactions, The Mandalorian became a huge hit, creating a whole new story within the Star Wars universe.

This new movie will end Star Wars’ seven-year break from theaters and continues right after The Mandalorian season 3. In that season, Din Djarin officially adopts Grogu, and they set up a home on Nevarro, working as bounty hunters for the New Republic.

Season 3, however, received a lot of criticism. Fans were unhappy about Din and Grogu’s reunion happening off-screen, and they felt the show didn’t focus enough on their bond. Some episodes like “The Convert” and “Guns For Hire” felt out of place.

But Brendan Wayne wants to reassure...

The Mandalorian and Grogu Are Coming Back to What Fans Loved Most, Says Brendan Wayne
Image
One of the stars of the upcoming Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, has given fans a hopeful message about what to expect from the film. Brendan Wayne, who has played Din Djarin on screen, said the movie will focus on what made the original show so popular, the close bond and adventures of Din and Grogu.

Since the Star Wars sequel trilogy ended with mixed reactions, The Mandalorian has been a bright spot for fans. The series started a fresh new era in the Star Wars universe and created a popular sub-franchise.

Now, the new film will bring Star Wars back to theaters after seven years. It picks up right where Season 3 of The Mandalorian left off. Din Djarin has officially adopted Grogu, and the two are making a life on Nevarro while working as bounty hunters for the New Republic.

Even though Season 3 ended on a sweet note,...

Why Peter Dinklage Had to Play 'The Toxic Avenger'
Image
The Toxic Avenger is a movie that many people believed would never see light of day. Despite being completed almost two years, the film has sat in limbo, throwing out small teasers, trailers and images to let everyone know it still exists. However, now, the movie is ready to unleash its insane, gory madness on the world in just over a month’s time. But what made director Macon Blair choose Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage for the lead role of this remake of the classic Troma Entertainment property? Simply, he likes him.

During a short interview at San Diego Comic-Con, Blair was asked his reasons for making Dinklage the star of his movie by The Hollywood Reporter, to which he replied:

“I just like working with people that I like, and [have] senses of humor, and if I have had a good time with them in the past, I like to keep it going.

Toxie Is Mean, Green, And Violently Fighting Crime In New Trailer For Unrated The Toxic Avenger
Image
The first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger remake was released in October 2023. Things went quiet after that, though reviews from various film festivals heaped praise on filmmaker Macon Blair's take on Toxie.

A full trailer for the movie has been released (via FearHQ.com), and there's plenty of unhinged violence and a level of craziness that promises to make this another cult classic. Whether it has widespread appeal is another matter, but it likely didn't cost much to produce and stands a good chance of making a tidy little profit.

Back to those reviews, and much of the praise heaped on The Toxic Avenger is featured heavily in the second half of this latest sneak peek. And yes, that's not a lie: this movie will release "unrated."

While Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage lends his voice to Toxie, Luisa Guerreiro, an actor and movement artist, donned the...

"I've Been Preserved For A Later Date": The Book Of Boba Fett Star Opens Up About His Character's Uncertain Star Wars Future
Image
Temuera Morrison has opened up about Boba Fett's uncertain future in Star Wars and the fate of The Book of Boba Fett. Despite Morrison’s triumphant return as Boba Fettin The Mandalorian season 2, the character’s storyline faltered in his spinoff show, The Book of Boba Fett. While the issues with that seven-episode series had nothing to do with Morrison’s work – the pacing, double timelines, and Din Djarin and Grogu’s prominent inclusion shifted the focus from Boba and his partner, Fennec Shand – his character has nevertheless been stuck in limbo.

Though The Book of Boba Fett was never officially canceled (The Acolyte was the first Star Wars show to suffer that fate in the trades), there has been no word on a potential second season, having been billed as a limited series. In a recent interview with Collider, Morrison spoke about his desire for The Book of Boba Fett...

“Where’s My Season 2?“: Temuera Morrison Finally Breaks Silence on 'The Book of Boba Fett's Future [Exclusive]
Image
It’s been over three years since The Book of Boba Fett concluded with its controversial season finale, and despite star Temuera Morrison being one of the longest-tenured stars in the universe, the character hasn’t been seen since. Few would push back against the claim that The Book of Boba Fett wasn’t without its issues, but none of these are the fault of Morrison, who portrayed the character with the same heart that he’s been doing for years. Collider’s Maggie Lovitt recently caught up with Morrison to chat about his new movie Ka Whawhai Tonu (In The Fire of War), and she mentioned how sad she was that we haven’t seen him in Star Wars since his series went off the air. Morrison expressed the same sentiment:

"I'm sad too. Where The Book of Boba Fett Season 2? Where the hell is Season 2? I know they're doing Ahsoka Season 2. I'm going,...

Star Wars: Starfighter: Mia Goth joins Ryan Gosling for the Shawn Levy-directed Star Wars film
Ti West at an event for In a Valley of Violence (2016)

Rumor: Much Of The Star Wars Franchise's Future Hinges On The Mandalorian & Grogu's Success
Image
The Mandalorian season 4 was scheduled to go into production shortly before 2023's Hollywood strikes brought the film and television industry to a halt. Scripts had been written, but the downtime saw Disney decide that Din Djarin and Grogu's next adventure should be a feature instead.

Given their popularity and season 3's open-ended conclusion, it's not hugely surprising that the House of Mouse is eager to cash in on The Mandalorian's success by shifting focus from streaming subscribers to box office revenue.

Six years since The Rise of Skywalker was released, getting Star Wars back into theaters, after Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy essentially turned it into a small screen property, has become a priority for Disney CEO Bob Iger.

Why? Well, Moana 2 was originally a Disney+ TV series and grossed over $1 billion last year; Lilo & Stitch was similarly destined for streaming, only to break box office records over Memorial Day weekend.

"He Can't Hold Himself Together": 'The Mandalorian's Brendan Wayne Reveals Exactly Why Din Djarin Can't Lead Mandalore
Image
We’re now more than two years removed from what might be the final season of The Mandalorian, and although there may not be another season of the Disney+ show, the story of Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu is far from over. The Mandalorian & Grogu will make the hyperspace jump into theaters next year on May 22, and it will pick up after the events of The Mandalorian Season 3 finale, which sees Din and Grogu retire to Nevarro after helping establish a community there.

Although Pedro Pascal is known as The Mandalorian, other stars are equally important in bringing Din Djarin to life. One of those stars is Brendan Wayne, who, more often than not, is the one inside the suit. Pascal may be the voice, but Wayne portrays all of Din’s movements and body language. Wayne recently sat down for an interview on The Sackhoff Show, which is...

The Toxic Avenger Crashes A "Killer Nutz" Party In Bizarre, Gruesome New Trailer
Image
Another teaser for The Toxic Avenger has been released, and this latest look at Macon Blair's upcoming remake/reimagining of the Troma classic focuses on the villainous Fritz Garbinger (Elijah Wood) band, "The Killer Nutz."

Unfortunately for these monstercore rockers, Toxie (Peter Dinklage) is not a fan, and shows up at their concert to dispense some hilariously gruesome justice.

The Toxic Avenger debuted its first trailer back in October of 2023 before completely dropping off the radar. Fans had been wondering about the status of the movie ever since, and late last year, a report claimed that the gory splatter-fest - which has a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes - had been deemed "unreleasable" and "not safe enough to market."

One distributor was willing to take a chance on Toxie, and Cinerverse and Bloody Disgusting recently announced that the movie will get a theatrical release on August 29 - and it will hit theaters unrated.

'The Mandalorian' Star Katee Sackhoff Comments on 'Star Wars' Fandom
Image
There's no denying that the Star Wars fandom can be a cantankerous bunch sometimes, but mostly, it's been an important part of pop culture since George Lucas launched his seminal 1977 film that helped change the landscape of science fiction cinema. Despite its divisive nature at times, however, there is one person who sees nothing but the good in all of it: The Mandalorian's Katee Sackhoff.

Speaking with MovieWeb's own George Edelman to discuss her new action comedy with Josh Hartnett, Fight or Flight, the subject of Star Wars inevitably came up. Sackhoff was no stranger to sci-fi before then thanks to her time on Battlestar Galactica as Kara "Starbuck" Thrace, but she became known to fans as Bo-Katan Kryze in the animated shows The Clone Wars and Rebels, and for portraying the live-action version of the character in The Mandalorian. For Sackhoff, she had nothing but good things to say about the Star Wars fandom,...

Katee Sackhoff Offers Encouraging Update on Bo-Katan's Return Amid The Mandalorian and Grogu Rumors
Image
Sa fan-favorite character from Star Wars: The Mandalorian seems poised to return amid rumors of a potential The Mandalorian and Grogu appearance. Acclaimed actor Katee Sackhoff offers an encouraging update on whether fans will see Mandalore ruler Bo-Katan Kryze again.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Sackhoff insisted Bo-Katan is appearing "in some form," though when The Mandalorian and Grogu was mentioned, she smiled and pretended to be oblivious to the news of the Jon Favreau film wrapping production last December.

"You will see her again in some form. That's all you need to know," she said. Sackhoff also joked that she has job security in the Star Wars universe thanks to her connections with Dave Filoni, the sci-fi franchise's long-time producer. "Dave Filoni cannot get rid of me, because Bo Katan is based off of his wife, so I've got some job security," she said.

The Toxic Avenger remake promo images reveal why the film is being released unrated
At the start of the year, it was announced that Cineverse had acquired the distribution rights with the intention of giving the film a wide release, and we’ve since learned that they’re aiming for an August 29th theatrical release. Three years ago, the Motion Picture Association ratings boards gave the film an R rating for “strong violence and gore, language throughout, sexual references and brief graphic nudity”… but never mind all that. The Toxic Avenger remake is being released unrated, and new promo images reveal exactly why it’s going out unrated.

Pedro Pascal Makes a Bold Claim About 'The Mandalorian & Grogu' Ahead of 2026 Release
Image
Of the plethora of Star Wars projects that are in development at Disney, the only one that we know for sure that’s coming out next year is The Mandalorian & Grogu, which has a release date of May 22, 2026. Featuring Pedro Pascal reprising his role as the titular Mando from the beloved series, the film is set at some point between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, and will once again see him and Grogu go on what Pascal calls "one of the best adventures ever made."

Appearing on the red carpet at Star Wars Celebration Japan recently, Pascal was approached by the good folks at IMDb, and discussed a little of what's to come in The Mandalorian & Grogu. He had high praise for both the sets and creator/director Jon Favreau, noting that "the series alone had some of the most incredible sets that I've ever seen in my life,...

Will The Mandalorian Season 4 Follow The Mandalorian And Grogu Movie? Filmmaker Jon Favreau Weighs In
Image
The Mandalorian season 4 was supposed to go into production before 2023's Hollywood strikes. Scripts had been written, but the downtime saw Disney decide Din Djarin and Grogu's next adventure should be a feature instead.

Given their popularity and the way season 3 ended, it's not overly surprising that Disney is looking to cash in on The Mandalorian's success by shifting focus from streaming subscribers to box office revenue.

It's also been over six years since The Rise of Skywalker. So, getting Star Wars back into theaters, after Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy essentially turned it into a small screen property, has become a priority for Disney CEO Bob Iger.

Starting with two hugely popular characters is a smart move, but as of now, we don't know what the future holds in store for them both beyond The Mandalorian and Grogu movie coming to theaters next year. For example, is the...

"I Hope I'm a Pretty Tough Boss": Sigourney Weaver Spills New Intel on Her 'Mandalorian and Grogu' Character [Exclusive]
Image
The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to become the first Star Wars movie to hit theaters since 2019, and one of the newcomers to the galaxy far, far away is the legendary Sigourney Weaver. No stranger to science fiction herself, Weaver is at this weekend's Star Wars Celebration convention in Tokyo, Japan. Collider's Steve Weintraub is there, too, and he had a chance to talk to Weaver about her character in the film. Weaver discussed her character, whose name has yet to be revealed, and how she relates to the titular bounty hunter and his young apprentice:

"I'm a pilot who came up with the Rebellion, and my job now is somewhere in the Outer Rim, just protecting the New Republic from all the scum that's managed to make its way over to the Outer Rim. For that, I really need someone like the Mandalorian. Even though it was hard...

After a two year wait since this first premiered at the genre festivals - it's time to unleash Toxie on everyone evil! Speaking to Cbr's Grae Drake at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Favreau was asked who inspires him in terms of directing, to which he responded, "Honestly, right now it's a lot of my peers. You know... There's the studio of Yamazaki-san, from Godzilla Minus One. I love his - it has this workshop-type feel. A real handmade feel even though it's very high-tech... I think that's wonderful. It's also wonderful to go to big sets and big productions, going to visit the Avatar sets with Jim Cameron."

‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ crashes ‘Star Wars’ Celebration: Everything we learned about upcoming feature film
Image
It’s not uncommon for Lucasfilm to bring the stars of Star Wars to the stage of the Star Wars Celebration fan festivals. But few expected an animatronic of The Mandalorian’s breakout character, Grogu, to step out and wave his hand alongside his costars Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver.

That was the scene this week in Tokyo where the trio appeared at Star Wars Celebration for the first official look at The Mandalorian and Grogu, the upcoming big-screen continuation of the Emmy-winning The Mandalorian Disney+ series. While the footage hasn’t been shared online yet, it offers a taste of what fans can expect to see.

The Mandalorian And Grogu Star Wars Celebration Trailer Leaks And Reveals Rotta The Hutt And A Big Cameo
Image
With Disney looking to increase theatrical revenue after spending years shoring up its streaming offerings on Disney+ (to great expense), The Mandalorian season 4 has transformed into The Mandalorian and Grogu.

The movie will bring Din Djarin and "The Child" to the big screen, and at Star Wars Celebration in Japan yesterday evening, fans were shown a first look. As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, that's now leaked online and can be viewed by following this link.

The trailer opens with Mando laying waste to a squad of Imperials aboard an At-at before the bounty hunter reports back to Sigourney Weaver's New Republic pilot. There's heaps of Grogu cuteness, a surprise appearance from Star Wars Rebels' Zeb Orrelios, and the long-awaited return of Din's Razor Crest.

Near the end of the preview, we see that Grogu is growing stronger in the Force as he lays waste to an...

Star Wars Celebration Leak Reveals ‘Mandalorian and Grogu’ Trailer
Image
Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Japan just gave us a thrilling peek at what’s next for our favorite bounty hunter and his tiny green sidekick. A teaser trailer for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’, the upcoming film set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026, leaked online shortly after its exclusive debut at the event. I couldn’t wait to dive into the details of this exciting reveal.

The leaked footage, which surfaced on platforms like X, showcases Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, and his adopted apprentice, Grogu, in a brand-new adventure. This marks the first Star Wars theatrical release since ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ in 2019, making it a big deal for fans like me who’ve been craving more big-screen stories from this galaxy far, far away.

Directed by Jon Favreau, the creator of ‘The Mandalorian’ series, the film promises to bring the same heart and action that made the Disney+ show a hit.

Star Wars Reveals First Look at Jeremy Allen White as Jabba the Hutt's Son in The Mandalorian & Grogu
Image
Star Warsfans get their first look at Jeremy Allen White's Rotta the Hutt.

The image of Rotta the Hutt was unveiled during a panel for The Mandalorian & Grogu at the Star Wars Celebration event; it has since spread on social media. The admittedly grainy image showcases the hulking, sluggish Rotta raising his arms in what appears to be some sort of arena. The character, who is voiced by The Bear star Jeremy Allen White, will be making his live-action, silver screen debut next summer when The Mandalorian & Grogu arrives in theaters on May 22, 2026.

‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’: Action-Heavy Footage Brings Baby Yoda to the Big Screen at Star Wars Celebration
Image
The debut footage for the first Star Wars movie in seven years has now been seen by fans.

Lucasfilm and Disney revealed the first-look at The Mandalorian & Grogu, the Star Wars film spun off from Disney+’s The Mandalorian TV series, at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Japan. Jon Favreau, who directed the movie and co-wrote it with Star Wars guru Dave Filoni, were on hand to introduce it.

In the action-heavy footage, the audience sees snowtroopers inside an At-at preparing to engage in battle. Then, in what appears to be a sort of homage to the opening of the original 1977 movie, in which Rebels prepared for, and then were massacred by, invading stormtroopers, the Mandalorian cuts open into the hull of the At-at, then, in one continuous take, blasts, stabs, pyros, and fights his way through the snowtroopers, making his way through the hull and then hallway, ending at the door of the cockpit,...

Luisa Guerreiro in The Toxic Avenger (2023)
Everything We Know About the Toxic Avenger Remake
Luisa Guerreiro in The Toxic Avenger (2023)
Back in 1984, Troma Entertainment brought the world The Toxic Avenger (watch it Here), a film about “the first superhero from New Jersey.” That film spawned a franchise, leading to The Toxic Avenger Part II (1989), The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie (1989), Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV (2000), a stage musical, and an animated series called Toxic Crusaders. For a long time, we’ve been hearing that Troma wanted to make a Toxic Avenger 5 – but instead doing that, they have loaned out the rights to Legendary Pictures, allowing them to make a remake of the original film that’s set to reach theatres on August 29th, courtesy of Cineverse. In anticipation of the film’s long-awaited release, we have put together a list of Everything We Know About the Toxic Avenger Remake… and here we go:

Writer / Director

Macon Blair’s Toxic Avenger movie gets a trailer
Peter Dinklage
After years without a distributor, Peter Dinklage’s Toxic Avenger is finally coming out. And what’s more, we have a trailer to enjoy.

After a couple of years of uncertainty, Macon Blair’s adaptation of The Toxic Avenger is finally headed towards general release. Whilst the film did make a brief appearance back in 2023 with a teaser trailer, but the film is reportedly very violent – so violent in fact that it struggled to find a US distributor in 2023. We got a brief teaser for the film, and since then, nothing.

However, Blair is a talented director having helmed the Netflix thriller I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore to very positive notices. Likewise, the film’s star Peter Dinklage has raised the quality bar on many a project too, so hopes were always high that eventually somebody would swoop in to pick up the film for distribution...

The Mandalorian And Grogu May Have The Lowest Budget Of Any Disney/Lucasfilm-Produced Star Wars Movie
Image
While Disney+ was a success when it launched in 2019, it didn't take the House of Mouse long to reach a point where spending hundreds of millions of dollars on content wasn't paying off when it came to attracting new, paying subscribers.

Since taking over as Disney CEO from Bob Chapek, Bob Iger has concluded that there's more money to be made in theaters and, so far, he's been proven correct.

The Moana TV series was transformed into a movie that grossed over $1 billion last year and the highly anticipated Lilo & Stitch has gone from being a streaming title to a theatrical release. As for The Mandalorian season 4, that's now The Mandalorian and Grogu.

The movie was filmed in California and, like the TV series, made use of the Volume to cut down on pricey location shoots.

According to the California Film Commission (via SFFGazette.com), The Mandalorian and Grogu's production...
