Sitges 2024: Spanish Stuck-on-the-Moon Thriller 'Luna' is a Disaster
Image
Spain, we have a problem. I don't enjoy writing negative reviews and I don't feel good about bashing films. I try to remain positive and talk about what I love. But sometimes there's a movie that is just so terrible, so miserable, such a waste of time and talent, that it is necessary to write about just so that the film industry can learn from their mistakes. I doubt they will. They will continue making bad films like this one. But at least I expressed my frustration and dissatisfaction in hopes that maybe they would spend money on better projects next time around. Luna (which translates to simply Moon) is a Spanish science fiction thriller film directed by filmmaker Alfonso Cortés-Cavanillas. Because it's an entirely Spanish production made mainly for Spanish audiences, the film had its world premiere at the 2024 Sitges Film Festival in Spain/Catalonia. It's bad. Like, really bad.

Movistar Plus Ups Production, Scale, Comedies, Non-Fiction for 2020
Madrid — Movistar Plus, the pay TV/Svod arm of giant European telecom Telefonica, is upping the ante. On New Year’s Eve, it announced a first 2020 release line-up – more titles may be added – that has two big swings, more emphasis on action, and a larger number of comedy and non-fiction plays.

2020’s 14 new series or seasons marks an all-time company record.

That, however, is just Movistar Plus, and does not count any big series in the second half of the year, or any that it might put into development via a new joint production venture, announced in September, with broadcast network Atresmedia.

Also, there may be more feature films, following on the company’s first original movie, Alejandro Amenábar’s “While at War,” which earned a gratifying €11.0 million at the Spanish box office this year, and established the pay TV unit as one of the very few companies in Spain...

Movistar Plus Drives Into Non-Fiction With ‘Accused,’ ‘Palmar,’ ‘Empire’
Movistar Plus, the pay TV unit of Telefonica, is driving into non-fiction, announcing in Madrid this week its first-ever slate of six titles which takes in Isaki Lacuesta’s “El Acusado,” Israel del Santo’s “El Palmar de Troya” and Santiago Posteguillo’s “El corazón del Imperio.”

“In Movistar+ we have a firm commitment to original production. We have been working for more than three years on entertainment and fiction. Going into non- fiction was the natural step,” María José Rodríguez Pérez, contents manager at Movistar premium channel #0 told Variety, adding: “For us to plumb non-fiction is to expand our commitment to creativity, emotion and the quality of our content.”

The move also comes as non-fiction is underscoring its market appeal on new Ott platforms. A repair last year by by Ampere Analysis suggested that over half (56%) of new titles being added to global streaming platforms were non-scripted, driven by documentary,...
