Stranglers’ Dave Greenfield Dead at 71 After Coronavirus Battle
Dave Greenfield — who played keyboards and sung for the U.K. punk group the Stranglers off and on since 1975 — died Sunday due to coronavirus-related complications.

“Following a stay in hospital for heart problems, Dave tested positive for the Covid-19 virus last Sunday but he sadly lost his battle last night,” the group reported in a statement. “Dave was a lovable, friendly and eccentric character who always had time to chat.” The BBC reported that Greenfield was 71 at the time of his death.

Pink Floyd frontman David Gilmour joined Richard Thompson at the latter’s 70th birthday concert in London Monday for a performance of “Dimming of the Day,” the closing track of Richard and Linda Thompson’s 1975 album, Pour Down Like Silver.

Hugh Cornwell: 'Keith Floyd was a rebel'
Hugh Cornwell has said that his former band The Stranglers appealed to late TV chef Keith Floyd because of his rebellious nature. Floyd was known to be a fan of the group and versions of their tracks 'Waltzinblack', 'Peaches' and 'Viva Vlad!' often featured on his cookery programmes. Hugh Cornwell Performs At The Academy In Dublin Tomorrow
Hugh Cornwell, the English singer/songwriter/guitarist, will perform hits from his new album "Hooverdam," at Dublins Academy on March 27th. Fans can win tickets by answering a trivia question about Cornwell and emailing the answer.

Cornwell, who grew up in Tufnell Park and Kentish Town in England, was part of the band the Stranglers before embarking on his solo career. The Stranglers formed in 1974.

Cornwell was the lead guitarist and sang several of the songs. He left the band in 1990, however, after stating to the press he didn't think the Stranglers could go much further musically.

Since going solo, he has recorded about 10 solo albums. "Hooverdam" is his latest.
