For the successful reputation that Marvel Studios was known for, particularly during its first three phases, it can be easy to forget that the road from "Iron Man" to "Avengers: Endgame" was not always smooth. Sure, fans often like to discuss the trajectory of the entire Infinity Saga as if it were all masterfully executed, but we sometimes forget about the bumps along the way. Some of those bumps include Phase 1 actors like Terrence Howard and Edward Norton dropping from their roles, filmmakers-for-hire dropping from projects due to the dreaded "creative differences" with Kevin Feige, or, at least in one case, a film being pulled from the slate altogether.
During its golden age, Marvel Studios developed a reputation as a studio whose cinematic output was, at the very least, competent. Sure, some of that leads to formulaic plots, but the dynamic characters portrayed by talented actors helped make these films...

Image Source: Sony Pictures Thanks to its audacious story and unique mix of sci-fi mayhem and urban gritty life, Attack the Block written and directed by Joe Cornish has earned its place as a cult favorite. South London serves as the backdrop for the movie, which follows a gang of teenagers combating an alien invasion threatening their local area. The movie developed a unique identity in the sci-fi genre from excellent performances from its young and upcoming cast at the time Nick Frost, Jodie Whittaker, and John Boyega. When the film first hit screens in 2011, Cornish shared his thoughts on what makes Attack the Block stand out. Is it satire? Or is it a classic piece of science fiction? When we think of John Boyega, we immediately attach his name to one of the biggest franchises in the world, Star Wars. However, before Boyega became Finn, a galactic hero, the actor played Moses in the 2011 sci-fi horror Attack the Block. While he wasn't a valiant force-sensitive resistance fighter, Boyega's Moses helps defend his neighborhood from an alien threat. "A group of valiant teenagers ventures out to battle a savage alien incursion. With the invasive species jeopardizing their vicinity in Southern London, they fight to succeed in their mission," reads the official synopsis. In the aftermath of its premiere and despite its short theatrical run, the film's legacy has grown with a sequel, Attack the Block 2, confirmed and in pre-production.
However, years have passed without Attack the Block 2 making it to screens. Speaking on Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz, Boyega explained why the sequel has been delayed for so long.

It is almost 15 years since Attack the Block defied genre boundaries to deliver a sci-fi action-comedy starring a pre-Star WarsJohn Boyega, and promised more to come. However, despite the movie’s 91% Rotten Tomatoes score, the film underperformed at the box office and failed to make back its budget of $8 million, and a sequel was never really on the cards. At least until the film’s 10th anniversary.
In 2021, Attack the Block 2 received an unexpected announcement, with writer/director Joe Cornish working on a new script and Boyega set to reprise his role. Since then, though, it has been a hard slog to see any kind of movement on the project, with only limited updates coming from the star and director. During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Boyega put that right with one of the most positive updates the sequel has received, even hinting that it could be coming next year.

John Boyega explains the delayed development of Attack the Block 2. Before he played Finn in Star Wars, Boyega was in a British sci-fi movie called Attack the Block. The film centered around a teenage gang in South London who are forced to defend their territory when an alien invasion comes their way. The film was directed by Joe Cornish and featured a cast including Boyega, Jodie Whittaker, Alex Esmail, and Leeon Jones. Since the movie's release in 2011, Attack the Block 2 has been confirmed and is currently in pre-production.
Speaking with Josh Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused, Boyega explains why Attack the Block 2 has been delayed. When pressed about why the film was taking so long, Boyega noted that Cornish and the team are "just cooking it to make it right for everyone." Part of this involves securing more funding to bring the effects up to modern standards.

John Boyega, the actor who played Finn in the latest Star Wars trilogy, has remained one of the most honest people around when speaking the truth about the rampant toxicity in the fandom. As a co-lead in The Force Awakens, Boyega is one of several actors in the Star Wars film and TV universe who received racist attacks online, along with Kelly Marie Tran, who played Rose Tico in The Last Jedi, Amandla Stenberg, previously featured in The Acolyte, and Moses Ingram, who played Inquisitor Reva in Obi-wan Kenobi. In an interview for a new documentary called Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Men in Hollywood, Boyega had some choice words for the haters, as reported by Entertainment Weekly:
"Star Wars always had the vibe of being in the most whitest, elite space. It's a franchise that's so white that a Black person existing in [it] was something.

There are a few milestones that a film franchise has to pass before becoming an all-time classic. It needs to have good reviews, fans need to start cosplaying as the characters, and wars need to be fought on Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) about the film's timeline. That said, what truly cements a film franchise as truly beloved is when it gets its own Lego set. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is finally being immortalized in tiny, clicky, painful-to-step-on bricks, after a long wait from fans.
The beloved toy company recently unveiled its first-ever set based on the hit animated film franchise. The new set features a battle scene from 2023's sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. John Boyega is most commonly known for his work in the Star Wars sequel trilogy playing Finn - the stormtrooper turned Resistance fighter beloved by fans for his denied romance with Oscar Isaac’s Poe Cameron. Boyega played the character throughout all three sequel films and reprised his role in the video games Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: Battlefront 2.
Whilst Finn is the role he’s most known for, Boyega’s battles with alien creatures long preceded his appearance in a galaxy far, far away. In fact, Boyega’s first role in a science fiction film was as up-and-coming criminal Moses in Attack the Block.

John Boyega wishes that Daniel Craig would have stayed on as James Bond. The 'Queer' actor bowed out as 007 after five films in 2021's 'No Time to Die' but Boyega would've been pleased to see him continue playing the spy rather than have the current uncertainty that exists around the franchise. The 'Star Wars' actor told Metro: "I still think Daniel should have done at least two more. I wonder how they would creatively do that."John admits that it is impossible to "fathom" what it would be like to be Bond unless he was given the chance to don the character's famous tuxedo. The 32-year-old star said: "You can only really answer that question when the opportunity actually lands in your lap and could work.

The Lego franchise is the next to dive into the realm of live-action, proving that this recent trend is getting out of hand. There have been a handful of animated Lego movies over the years, each of which was a fair success. It was only a matter of time before more went into production, and word is now out that there is not only one but three live-action Lego projects in the works. This is an interesting twist since the foundation of the Lego franchise doesn't seem to leave much room for this medium. However, the massive success of other live-action projects seems to have inspired further reimaginings.
So far, there is virtually no information regarding what these three Lego movies would be about or how their live-action format would be approached. They will all be produced by Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians, and their individual directors will be Jake Kasdan,...

The Lego franchise will begin making live-action movies, and I think that idea is an awful mistake. Lego is mostly known for its plastic brick toys and miniature figures, but the company began making high-budget animated movies and shows with 2014's aptly-named The Lego Movie. Since the success of The Lego Movie, which earned $468 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo), the franchise has made several more Lego movies, including a sequel, a pair of Lego Batman films, a movie about Ninjago, and more. Even though the Lego franchise has expanded its subject matter, one thing has stayed the same: its animation.
Now, however, there are three live-action Lego movies in the works. There are currently very few details about the films, and not even their titles are public knowledge yet. However, three directors have been attached to the movies: Jake Kasdan (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman...

After a slew of big announcements, yet another Lego Movie is now in development. The Lego series has gotten some activity with the well-reviewed 2024 film Piece by Piece. Blockheads, it's time to celebrate. Deadline is reporting that Universal and the Lego Group have greenlit not one, not two, but three new Lego movies, with directors Jake Kasdan, Patty Jenkins, and Joe Cornish.
According to Deadline, "all three movies plots are under wraps," but their scripts are well underway and unique to each directors' vision. Kasdan will be directing his Lego feature off a script from Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul, "based on an original idea and previous draft by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows." Jenkins' movie is "from a script she wrote with former DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns." Meanwhile, Cornish's toy bricks will come to us via a rewrite of a previous draft from Heather Anne Campbell, which was based on a treatment written by Simon Rich.

Universal Pictures and the Lego Group are linking up for three live-action movies centering on the toy line of interlocking blocks.
Directors Jake Kasdan (Red One), Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) and Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) are each developing a separate Lego film. The projects are in the works and have yet to announce titles or loglines.
Kasdan’s feature has a script from Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul (The D Train) after Matt Rider and Kevin Burrows (The Pickup) wrote a previous version. Lego Group’s Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians serve as producers, as do Kasdan and Melvin Mar for Detective Agency.
Jenkins helms a film from a screenplay she co-wrote with Geoff Johns (Wonder Woman 1984). Jenkins produces for Wicious Pictures, alongside Wilfert and Christians.

An exciting slate of directors has signed on to helm three new Lego movies. The cinematic Lego-verse underwent an unwanted hiatus for several years after 2019's whimsical The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. 2024 did see another animated Lego movie, but in an unusual form: Piece by Piece, a biopic-style film about music extraordinaire Pharrell Williams. The Lego Movie and its sequel and companion films have been among the most well-liked animated films of this generation, leaving audiences wanting more Lego content.

"Star Wars: Episode VII -- The Force Awakens" felt like the inception of a fresh adventure when the film first hit theaters, as it inched towards the promise to offer something new within a familiar mold. The film's narrative/thematic mirroring of "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope" was a conscious retracing of the telltale hero's journey, where interconnected fates posed cyclical moral dilemmas, echoing past mistakes and forging renewed bonds. John Boyega's Finn brimmed with potential when the character was introduced as a stormtrooper on the verge of defection, followed by his gradual integration among the Resistance: a path that comes with the ultimate test of loyalty and character. Boyega makes Finn his own, imbuing the immensely likable character with endearing grit and charm, but the way Finn was treated throughout the trilogy — which unfortunately looped back to how Boyega was treated and made to feel...

British actor John Boyega best known for his international breakout role as Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens has sparked speculation about his next role after numerous Instagram posts showed the star hard at work in the gym. Although Boyega has previously expressed his disinterest in joining the MCU as a superhero or supervillain the intense training that fans witnessed has them wondering if Boyega will appear in an upcoming Marvel movie after all.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
Over the past few days, Boyega has uploaded several pictures to his Instagram account, all of which show the Star Wars actor putting in some serious time at the gym. Since it's unlikely that Boyega is prepping for another Star Wars film, given his less-than positive comments about his experience in the franchise, fans are now wondering if Boyega's intense training regimen is a sign of a prospective role in the MCU.

Although Rebecca Ferguson played a great villain role five years ago in a woefully underrated fantasy film, the Dune actor now has the chance to give a higher profile villain performance in The Magic Faraway Tree. Recently, it was announced that an adaptation of a classic children's novel will star Ferguson as well as other acclaimed actors, including Claire Foy (The Crown), Andrew Garfield, and Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton). The book of the same name is the second in a series of four novels by Enid Blyton that center on an enchanted wood where the titular tree grows.

Peter Jackson’s King Kong was the ninth entry in the King Kong franchise. The film remains Jackson’s only monster movie and he didn’t return to direct a sequel film. But he was interested to see a sequel of the film from one director who has a lifelong fascination with monsters. Jackson thought it would be great if Guillermo del Toro helmed the sequel, after hearing rumors of it at San Diego Comic-Con in 2014.

Corey Stoll's 8-year-old son refuses to watch the original Ant-Man movie because he doesn't want to see his dad playing the bad guy. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's box office performance may signal the end of the Ant-Man franchise, with Marvel reducing future projects.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania divided many Marvel fans with its multiverse teasing storyline that introduced Kang the Conqueror to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, it appears that for star Corey Stoll the original Ant-Man movie is one that causes some division in his own house as his eight-year-old son wont watch it for one specific reason.
Stoll played Darren Cross in the 2015 film that introduced Paul Rudds size-changing hero to the MCU. While he didnt start out as the movies main antagonist, Cross soon turned out to be another power-hungry bad guy that needed to be taken downin size, as it turned out.

La Guerra Del Tiburtino III has as its international title Rome: Tales From the Block, which shows you how much this film wears its influences on its sleeve. From the opening segment, in which an alien creature leaves a meteor and takes over the brain of a middle aged schlub, it is clear that this film operates in a similar vein to Joe Cornish' Attack The Block, setting an alien invasion in the outskirts of a city, where the people who live there consider themselves the have-nots. Outside of dealing with financial struggles, petty crime, poor neighborhood cleaning and such, they now also have to deal with an invasion of bodysnatchers.
