And it appears that the actor might be on the brink of another major success with the new spinoff of Disney’s animated sitcom Big City Greens. Young Sheldon's Iain Armitage Didn't Know How To Use An Important Prop On Set
Image
Being a prequel spin-off to "The Big Bang Theory" and a period piece that starts its story in the 1980s, the CBS sitcom "Young Sheldon" wears multiple hats. This, of course, poses its challenges for Iain Armitage, who plays the titular younger version of the "Big Bang Theory" character Sheldon Cooper on the show. As the young actor found out, filming a show that takes place decades before he was born could also throw minor curveballs that were far more unexpected.

In a 2018 interview with CTV Your Morning, Lance Barber and Zoe Perry -- who play George Cooper, Sr. and Mary Cooper, respectively -- revealed that Armitage faced a surprising hurdle while filming the show: 1980s technology. "Iain didn't understand what a dial was," Perry said about her young co-star's first experiences with a dial phone. "He was dialing first and then picking up the phone before he was taught...

Young Sheldon: What Episode Does George Sr. Die?
Image
Killing off George Cooper Sr. (Lance Barber) in "The Big Bang Theory" is one of creator Chuck Lorre's biggest regrets. The sitcom reveals that he died when Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) was a teenager -- an idea that came to Lorre and the gang before they even thought about making a prequel series centered around the socially awkward physicist's upbringing. However, "Young Sheldon" eventually became a thing, and everyone went into it knowing that George's death was more inevitable than Thanos. But while his controversial cheating storyline was retconned, there was no going back in regard to George's fateful outcome, and viewers bore witness to a plot thread they dreaded from the show's inception.

Of course, George's journey on "Young Sheldon" isn't entirely depressing. The sitcom keeps the beer-drinking football coach alive for seven seasons, allowing him to become a fleshed-out character who is more caring and lovable than...

The Georgie Scene That Made Young Sheldon's Lance Barber Extremely Emotional
Image
Lance Barber was at the heart of some of the most emotional scenes on "Young Sheldon," the most notable being the death of his character, George Cooper Sr., in the show's final season. However, while many fans probably associate the Cooper patriarch with the sitcom's most tear-inducing moments, Barber spilled water over a romantic scene. In an interview with TVLine, he explained that the episode where Georgie Cooper (Montana Jordan) marries Mandy McAllister (Emily Osment) got him right in the feels, and it had a lasting impact on him. As he explained:

"That was the first day I felt emotional as well, and it kept hitting me over and over. And we're [Mary and George Cooper Sr.] not even featured in that. That's such a moment with Mandy and her dad. It's beautiful, but I was a mess for that scene in the wedding."

Barber also noted that Georgie and Mandy's wedding scene felt like...

This Major 'Young Sheldon' Character Was Only Supposed to Be in 1 Episode
Image
Young Sheldon was supposed to be centered largely around the character of Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage), a prequel to The Big Bang Theory. But as the show evolved, it became more about the overall family dynamics, with storylines centered around each of the Cooper family members. Then, it expanded even further to include other supporting and guest actors in the mix, each with equal screen time.

One such character was only supposed to be in a single episode. But she ended up sticking around for much longer and eventually played a pivotal role in changing the entire franchise.

Image
Lance Barber's George Cooper passed away in the final season of Young Sheldon, the Big Bang Theory prequel series. The spinoff's story is continuing on with a sequel series of its own, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage.

Previously, it was announced that Barber would reprise his role as George by appearing in a dream sequence in an upcoming episode of Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. On her Instagram Stories, Young Sheldon star Raegan Revord, who played George's daughter Missy, shared a new image taken on the Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage set. It reveals Barber in a group hug with Revord, Montana Jordan (Georgie), and Zoe Perry (Mary). Of course, fans will notice the absence of Iain Armitage, who played the young Sheldon Cooper in Young Sheldon. While Annie Potts has made appearances on the new show as Meemaw, she's also not present in the set photo. An image of the post can be seen below,...

Young Sheldon's Lance Barber Played A Different Character On The Big Bang Theory
Image
"The Big Bang Theory" and "Young Sheldon" are set in the same universe, and both shows feature some of the same characters at different points in their lives. The main examples are Sheldon Cooper's (Jim Parson) family members, who are basically the heart of the entire franchise. Sadly, though, his dad, George Cooper Sr. (Lance Barber), is absent from the former series as he died when Sheldon was still in his teens. That said, Barber still has a role on "Big Bang Theory," and let's just say his character isn't as nice as George.

Unlike Barber's secret cameo in the "Young Sheldon" finale, his "Big Bang Theory" character is more out in the open. His name is Jimmy Speckerman, and "The Speckerman Recurrence" episode reveals that he bullied Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki) back in high school. When they meet again in the present, a drunken Jimmy apologizes for being...

“You Remind Me of My Dad”: ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’ EP Explains Georgie’s Relationship With His Father-in-Law
Image
The season finale of Young Sheldon left a bittersweet taste in the mouths of its viewing audience with the death of the Cooper family patriarch, George Cooper (Lance Barber). The effects of his father's passing has been evident in Georgie (Montana Jordan) in some of the early episodes of the spinoff show, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. Georgie is not the only one reeling from this loss, as his only sister, Missy (Reagan Revord) and his mother, Mary Cooper (Zoe Perry), are both enduring their own share of grief. However, unlike the rest of his family, Georgie has a little bit of a support system around him, in the shape of his father-in-law, Jim McAllister (Will Sasso).

‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’ Boss Talks Lance Barber’s Return as George Sr., Show’s Future
Image
Anyone who thought Lance Barber’s run as George Cooper, Sr. was going to be cut short on Young Sheldon, given how the character’s fate had been referenced on The Big Bang Theory, learned otherwise. Not only did Barber play the Cooper patriarch until the series end, he’s now set to reprise his role as Georgie’s dad in an upcoming episode of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, the Young Sheldon spinoff. Producers from the show confirmed the news of Barber’s guest spot at a press conference this week on the set of Georgie & Mandy. The character will appear to his namesake son not via streaming DVD VHS but rather in a dream. The idea was inspired by the fact that series creator/executive producer Chuck Lorre has been visited by his own late father in a dream. TV Insider was on the scene and, following the Q&a panel,...

‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’ To Feature Appearance By Lance Barber This Season

Anyone who misses Sheldon’s dad will be able to get a quick fix this season on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.

Lance Barber, who played George Sr. for seven seasons on Young Sheldon, is expected to reprise his role sometime this season.

At a press conference Thursday for the comedy, Georgie & Mandy co-creator Steve Holland confirmed that George Sr. will visit his son (Montana Jordan) in a dream. Barber is the latest Young Sheldon actor to appear in the CBS spinoff; others have included Zoe Perry, Raegan Revord, and Annie Potts.

“George is thinking about his dad, and he’s worried that his dad might be disappointed in him,” Holland told reporters about how they will incorporate Barber. “When we were breaking this episode, it just seemed like a great opportunity to bring George back.”

Co-creator Steven Molaro also teased Barber’s return on his Instagram page.

How Young Sheldon's George Cooper Sr. Will Return On Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage
Image
Because formulaic sitcoms are typically meant to be consumed as quickly digested standalone episodes, they do not often deal with the heaviness of death. When they do acknowledge the ultimate bummer, it's usually because their hand has been forced by powers beyond the writers' control, like a combative John Amos getting fired by the producers of "Good Times" or Nicholas Colasanto dying after Season 3 of "Cheers."

This makes the conundrum facing writers who work within the "Big Bang Theory" universe particularly interesting. During the sitcom's initial 12-season run, its creatives had ample time to fill in bits and pieces of every character's backstory. This gave the likes of Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Penny (Kaley Cuoco), and Howard (Simon Helberg) a little more depth while also opening up narrative avenues for the writers to explore as the immensely popular series kept getting renewed.

As "The Big Bang Theory" continued its run, it...

'Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage' Adds 'Young Sheldon' Star Lance Barber
Image
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has already become a well-regarded successor to the wildly popular Young Sheldon, which in itself was a prequel to The Big Bang Theory. The new CBS sitcom, which began airing in the fall of 2024, features an all-new cast of characters in addition to the titular familiar faces from Young Sheldon. However, it did not take long for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage to include special appearances from other Young Sheldon alums, but the latest cameo may be the most exciting (and confusing) one yet — George Cooper Sr.

As reported by TV Line, Lance Barber is set to reprise his Young Sheldon role as George Cooper Sr. in an upcoming episode of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. It's unclear when the episode will air, but series creators Chuck Lorre, Steve Holland, and Steven Molaro discussed the impending cameo while on set for the sitcom. Holland revealed...

Young Sheldon Star Reunites With TV Mom, Making Fans Emotional
Image
Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage has featured several special appearances from Young Sheldon stars, but Iain Armitage --- Sheldon Cooper himself --- has yet to join the show. However, the young actor still had the chance to reunite with his television mom seven months after the final episode of Young Sheldon aired.

On Instagram, Armitage shared a new image of himself alongside Zoe Perry, who plays Sheldon's mother Mary in Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. Bundled up to combat the cold that comes with the holiday season, the two are all smiles in the photo. Armitage also included a message in the post to reveal that the reunion took place at the White House, and while it was "incredible" to see the sights of the decorated building, the actor also appreciated how the trip gave him the "best excuse" to reunite with Perry.

This Canceled Fantasy Adaptation Should Have Been the Next Game of Thrones
Image
The world of young adult fantasy is teeming with stories waiting to be brought to life on screen. Among them, Tamora Pierce's Song of the Lioness quartet shines as an underappreciated gem. Since Lionsgate acquired the rights in 2019 and announced a planned television adaptation, fans have been eager for an update, but the project has remained dormant. In an era of fantasy blockbusters (Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon command as much attention as ever) and the demand for strong female leads, the lack of movement on this adaptation feels like a missed opportunity. With the undeniable success of The Hunger Games franchise and the ongoing hunger (no pun intended) for compelling YA fantasy, now is the perfect time for Song of the Lioness to take center stage.

Pierce's series, set in the magical realm of Tortall, follows the journey of Alanna of Trebond, a headstrong...

Young Sheldon's Lance Barber Has A Secret Cameo During George Cooper's Funeral
Image
"The Big Bang Theory" wasn't afraid to kill off characters, and that trend continued in the hit prequel series "Young Sheldon." Anyone familiar with "Big Bang Theory" went into the spin-off knowing that George Cooper (Lance Barber) had an expiration date, as Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) revealed long ago that his old man died when he was a teenager. The character was given an emotional send-off in the two-part series finale episode of "Young Sheldon," and Barber even returned for a sneaky cameo appearance.

The "Funeral" episode chronicles George's family and friends as they pay their respects to the late husband and father in church. An elderly lady called Georgina attends the service and can be spotted in the background during a wide shot that captures everyone at the funeral. It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment that most viewers probably didn't bat an eyelid at. However, following the episode, Reagan Revord, who plays Missy Cooper,...

Why Meemaw and Sheldon Weren't at the Grave in 'Georgie & Mandy'
Image
Fondly referred to as the "King of Sitcoms" due to the countless television knockouts he has helped create, small screen genius Chuck Lorre crafted an enduring and beloved universe with the release of the fan-favorite series The Big Bang Theory in 2007, a celebrated comedy that ran for 12 exciting seasons and became a major pop culture phenomenon. Its massive popularity and success led to the acclaimed coming-of-age prequel Young Sheldon, which detailed child prodigy Sheldon Cooper's unique upbringing in a small Texas town during the late '80s and early '90s.

Audiences fell in love with the wholesome dynamic of the program as Mary and George Cooper set out to raise their three vastly different children in the conservative community of Medford, with amusing misadventures and hijinks naturally ensuing. The hit show bid farewell to audiences after seven seasons in 2024, paving the way for yet another entry in the...

Why Fans Think Leonard from The Big Bang Theory Is Dead
Image
The much-loved sitcom The Big Bang Theory drew its final curtains after 12 seasons in May 2019. The series, which kept fans entertained for more than a decade, focuses on a group of brilliant yet quirky and eccentric minds. Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg), and Raj Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar) form the core friend group with Kaley Cuoco's Penny, Melissa Rauch's Bernadette and Mayim Bialik's Amy joining the bunch as the series progresses. The many years across which the series spanned and the friendships, relationships, and antics between the characters not only attracted audiences but also had them invested in the lives of the characters themselves.

The success of The Big Bang Theory has given rise to spinoffs based on the show; one, a prequel focusing on Sheldon Cooper's childhood, titled Young Sheldon, and another, a spinoff focusing on Sheldon's brother Georgie, titled Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage.

Fans Shouldn't Hate the Laugh Track on Georgie and Mandys First Marriage
Image
Devoted fans of The Big Bang Theory and its acclaimed companion series Young Sheldon rejoiced when it was announced that two of the universe's most celebrated characters were getting their very own spin-off, with Montana Jordan and Emily Osment reprising their respective roles in the sitcom Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. The wholesome and massively entertaining Young Sheldon sequel follows the wonderfully quirky couple as they embrace their wedded bliss and navigate the many ups and downs of parenthood, all the while dealing with their well-meaning kooky clans.

The buzzed-about sitcom made its epic debut on October 17, 2024, and unsurprisingly emerged as a knockout with fans and critics, attracting widespread praise and 6.56 million viewers. Though viewers were thrilled to be reunited with the lovable Coopers, they were less-than-pleased when a "laugh track" was introduced in the spin-off, a complete 180 from its predecessor Young Sheldon. Young Sheldon's Lance Barber Has One Condition To Return For Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage
Image
In movies, novels, television, comics, and just about everything aside from real life, death is not the end. Through a variety of dramatic devices, individuals can return -- for legitimate emotional/narrative reasons, be it to spackle over cracks in the plot or to generate some wholly unearned sentimentality. From Hamlet's dad popping up in Act I, Scene IV of Shakespeare's classic tragedy to trainer Mickey Goldmill appearing out of the Philadelphia heavens to exhort his pupil to fight one more round in "Rocky V," the dead are useful to the most skilled of storytellers. They're also helpful to paycheck-chasing actors cast as slashers in horror movies or boyfriends in soap operas.

One of the more recent inductees to the league of the fictional dead is George Cooper Sr., the father of Sheldon and Georgie Cooper in the "Big Bang Theory" prequel-spinoff series "Young Sheldon." He checked out in the series' emotional finale,...

By now, Sheldon Cooper, as a character, has come a long way. From being one of the most annoying characters in the show to one of the mostoddlywholesome, Sheldon has proven time and time again that sometimes being annoying is all part of a character. And sometimes, being annoying is not such a bad thing.
