Exclusive: Nickelodeon’s Rock Island Mysteries creators Matt Cooke and Vince Lund are forging an animated feature with UK indie Threewise Entertainment and a groundbreaking training initiative.

The pair have tied with Threewise Founder Michael Ford on the as-yet-untitled feature, which will evoke classics such as Gremlins, Attack the Block and Goosebumps and is being pitched to buyers.

Based on an original idea by Ford and written by Cooke and Lund, the live action/digital mo-cap feature will tackle real-world issues affecting millions of modern youngsters.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who won an Oscar in 2011 for their score for Best Picture nominee The Social Network, have found their next project. The composers will provide the score for the upcoming drama Patriots' Day, which is set for release on December 21. Director Peter Berg made the announcement today with the following statement.

"I couldn't be more honored than to be working with these two straight up genius artists. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Bringing their deep soul and fury to @patriotsdayfilm @treznor."

CBS is ready to jumpstart its fall season with a paper clip, rubber band, and lighter.

The network has ordered six new shows, including a reboot of the 1980s action series "MacGyver" and an adaptation of the movie "Training Day." The new shows also include comedies with big names as headliners: Matt LeBlanc and Joel McHale.

CBS has a lot of holes to fill in its schedule this fall. "The Good Wife" ended, "CSI: Cyber" was canceled (leaving the network without a "CSI" series for the first time in 16 years), and "Supergirl" is moving to The CW.

Bull

The much-hyped reboot was one of four dramas the Eye network ordered to series on Friday, joining Jerry Bruckheimer’s Training Day remake, the Michael Weatherly-fronted Bull, and Jason Katims’ medical entry Pure Genius (fka Bunker Hill).

On the comedy side, CBS has Ok’d Joel McHale’s workplace sitcom The Great Indoors and Matt LeBlanc’s family satire Man With a Plan (fka I’m Not Your Friend). Speaking of the latter, The Office‘s Jenna Fischer — who was set to play LeBlanc’s wife — has exited the project for creative reasons.

If there was ever a phrase to surmise the cinematic career of one John Hillcoat, it would be quality over quantity. Oscar nominees Josh Brolin and Maggie Gyllenhaal and “The Newsroom’s” Olivia Munn are in talks to join Luke Evans and David Oyelowo in the star-studded indie movie “Three Seconds,” TheWrap has learned. This week brought us another update on the Richard Jewell thriller that would reportedly re-team Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill following their work together on The Wolf of Wall Street. Deadline is reporting that Clint Eastwood is now circling the project.

Jewell was a police officer who discovered a backpack with a bomb inside at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and helped to evacuate the area. Though he was originally hailed a hero, misreporting by the press ultimately labeled him a potential suspect. Hill would play Jewell, and DiCaprio would play the Southern lawyer who helped clear his name.

The film is based on an article called “The Ballad of Richard Jewell” that ran in Vanity Fair in 1997, and Billy Ray (Captain Phillips, The Hunger Games) wrote the screenplay for the currently untitled film. Hugh Jackman will star as the title character, who converted to Christianity to spread the word of the Lord to the Romans. Paul, also known as Saul of Tarsus, went on to write 14 of the 27 books in the Bible's New Testament.

Apostle Paul was not one of Jesus Christ's original 12 disciples, known for his persecution of Christians, but he encountered Christ on the Road to Damascus, where he was blinded by a white light. He was blind for three days until a man named Ananias came and prayed for him, restoring his eyesight. He ended up converting to Christianity and devoting his life to Christ. Paul became one of Christ's most important messengers, appearing before Roman leaders to spread the word, since he was also a citizen of Rome.

With Hugh Jackman promising, for real, to hang up the claws after "Wolverine 3," he's looking for different kinds of projects to keep him busy. And indeed, this year alone saw him go full mullet for "Chappie," and in a couple of months, full beard for "Pan." He may need to grow the hair, both on his face and head, for this role. Hugh Jackman is said to be attached to a new Biblical film called Apostle Paul.

Deadline reports that the actor will play Paul, who is also known as Saul of Tarsus, and produce the film alongside Matt Damon and Ben Affleck under their Pearl Street banner.

A screenplay is being written by Triple Nine's Matt Cook, with the film being co-produced by Jennifer Todd and Chris Clarke. Warner Bros will also produce the film.

Although details of the narrative are unknown, the disciple the film is based on has had a great deal written about him. Paul was converted on the Road to Damascus when Christ appeared to him and he was blinded, before having his eyesight restored by a man called Ananias when he prayed for him.

He went on to preach across Rome and found a number of churches, and he is credited with writing 14 of the New Testament's 27 books.

The return of the Biblical epic continues as Hugh Jackman gets into the mix of playing one of the most famous New Testament characters. Jackman is set to star in the title role in Apostle Paul which he will also produce alongside Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. It might sound odd that director John Hillcoat — a man who’s not always the fastest worker — is already moving along with his Wettest County follow-up, but his Prohibition-set tale of bootleggers has been delayed again and again, all the way to August 31st. So, with some extra time on his hands and the good graces of Annapurna, it sounds like he’s already kicked off work on his fifth feature, Triple Nine.

ThePlaylist noticed that, on Annapurna’s website, his name, a nifty little graphic, and the title are presented alongside several other, pending projects on the company’s slate — The Master, Cogan’s Trade, and Wettest County among them. While reports of Nine going into pre-production are new to you and I (unless you work for Megan Ellison), we’ve still known about the project since August of 2010, when Shia Labeouf was eyeing the Matt Cooke-penned drama.

A recent /Film report suggests that director John Hillcoat and star Shia Labeouf could be teaming up sometime in the near future. The project? Triple Nine, a crime drama written by Matt Cooke, and to be produced by Steve Golin (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Babel). The story, which I must admit is rather intriguing, goes something like this:

A group of crooked cops planning a major heist realize they must shoot one of their own in order to get away with it. The lead character is an upstanding young officer who they choose as their victim.

Warner Bros. is showing the most interest in the project at this point. It is also worth noting that Chris Pine (Star Trek) is eying a role in the film.

Leading off today's roundup is word Ben Affleck and Rachel Weisz have joined the cast of Terrence Malick's next movie, with Affleck stepping in for Christian Bale in the untitled romantic drama. There was a time, say five or so years ago, where I would have dreaded such news, but Affleck has continued to grow as a performer while I've grown a bit tired of Bale. Javier Bardem, Rachel McAdams and Olga Kurylenko were also announced as the initial cast members back in February. Production is set to begin in the beginning of October in Oklahoma, where Affleck was recently seen picking up some goods at a Bass Pro Shop for some fishing equipment. Considering we don't have any kind of synopsis just yet that's about all we have to go on. Now, if they could only come up with a release date for The Tree of Life.

Maybe those talks for the now-dead take on The Promised Land, once to be helmed by John Hillcoat with Shia Labeouf and Ryan Gosling starring, haven’t gone to waste.

According to The Wrap, both Hillcoat and Labeouf are currently looking to hop aboard a project called Triple Nine, a film penned by Matt Cooke. It follows “a group of crooked cops planning a major heist who realize they must shoot one of their own in order to get away with it. The lead character is an upstanding young officer who they choose as their victim. 999 is the police code indicating that an officer needs immediate assistance.”

Matt Cooke's script "Triple Nine" is definitely hot commodity right now. The crime drama, following a gang of crooked police officers, has attracted a couple of high-profile people. "The Road" director John Hillcoat is attached to take on this project, but the lead role is still some-what empty. "Transformers" star Shia Labeouf is said to be circling the role of the straight-laced cop who the crooked officers want to eliminate in order to pull off a huge heist. He's not entirely signed on yet, but since he's getting his hands on almost every property sent his way, it's merely a matter of time.Warner Bros is aiming to take the project and put it under their big studio wing. Labeouf is in the middle of filming his role in "Transformers 3", but you can check him out co-starring with Michael Douglas in "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" in theaters this September 24th.

Like hesitant squirrels creeping nervously towards an unguarded bird feeder, Shia Labeouf and The Road director John Hillcoat are warily considering the prospect of a new hot crime script called Triple Nine.Penned by producer/editor Matt Cooke on spec, the drama would follow a gang of crooked police officers working out the details of a massive heist when they suddenly hit upon a deadly wrinkle: in order to pull off the job, they’ll have to shoot another officer. Their pick is our hero, a straight-arrow type who has no idea people from his own force are plotting to murderlise him.Neither the actor or director (who at one point had planned to work together on The Promised Land) have started to actually negotiate a deal for the film (they’re just interested) and it seems likely that real commitments will wait until the project has a studio home...

When Shia Labeouf finishes his third time playing with Michael Bay's big noisy toys, he seems to have plenty of choices, including a couple of Tony Scott projects, and a "romantic action" story called The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman. Perhaps more interesting, however, is a potential pairing with director John Hillcoat (The Road, The Proposition). Shia and the filmmaker are considering Triple Nine, a crime thriller and hot script from Matt Cooke. According to The Wrap:...

I really wish Production Weekly tweets had more room for explanation. Pw has tweeted that “Shia Labeouf & Chris Pine are rumored choices to play the lead in Matt Brooks’ script Triple Nine with John Hillcoat attached to direct.” I did some digging and nowhere could I find anything about Hillcoat being connected to a movie called “Triple Nine” or working on a movie from a script by Matt Cooke. And what’s the movie about, it could be based on a Chinese cop drama, the Mensa-like Triple Nine Society, or something else entirely.

But Hillcoat attached to plenty of other projects including The Revenant, and [via The Playlist] a remake of Le Circle Rouge, The Death of Bunny Munroe, a film about legendary New York cop Joe Petrosino, Mob Cops, and was in talks to remake La Bonne Année. As for Labeouf and Pine, “rumored choices” probably just means their names are on a wish list.

Bert Marcus Productions is reteaming with “Teenage Paparazzo's” Adrian Grenier to produce the documentary “How to Make Money Selling Drugs.” The film is described as “a visually stunning chronicle of the adrenaline-fueled high-stakes world of drug dealing.”

The film is produced by Bert Marcus and Grenier, star of the HBO series “Entourage.” Matt Cooke directs.

In “How to Make Money Selling Drugs,” Marcus looks at those involved in the “war on drugs.” Among those interviewed in the documentary are infamous drug kingpin “Freeway” Rick Ross, rappers 50 Cent and Eminem and actors Grenier, Woody Harrelson and Susan Sarandon. Marcus also talks with top-ranking government officials and current Middle East envoy George Mitchell.
