George A. Romero‘s first two Dead movies, Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, were quickly seen as horror classics. But the third film in his series, 1985’s Day of the Dead (watch it Here), had a tougher time gaining acceptance. Many fans saw it as a disappointment, the weak link. It took years for Day of the Dead to be re-evaluated and viewed as a classic. July 19th marked the 40th anniversary of the original release of this classic – and coinciding with the anniversary, Scream Factory announced (via Fangoria) that they will be giving Day of the Dead a 4K Uhd release! A release date has not yet been scheduled.
Written and directed by Romero, Day of the Dead has the following synopsis: The walking dead have taken over the world. Only a small band of scientists and solders are definitely known to remain, and...

On January 1, 2024, the earliest versions of Mickey Mouse – seen in the animated shorts Plane Crazy, The Gallopin’ Gaucho, and most famously Steamboat Willie – became public domain… which, of course, means we’re now going to get multiple horror movies that feature characters inspired by Mickey Mouse. Within the first three days of the year, we saw the short film The Vanishing of S.S. Willie, a trailer for the slasher movie Mickey’s Mouse Trap, and an announcement that Terrifier 2 producers Steven Della Salla and Michael Leavy and director Steven Lamorte, who previously made the Grinch-inspired horror movie The Mean One, were teaming up for a Steamboat Willie-inspired horror flick that we now know is titled Screamboat. Iconic Events Releasing brought the film to theatres earlier this month (you can read our review Here), and now our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that Screamboat is coming to VOD,...

There are two completely different kinds of brutality afoot in movies like “Screamboat,” the latest in the low-budget horror movie craze to pervert beloved intellectual property the instant their 95-year copyright protection lapses into the public domain. First, there’s whatever sadistic fates the filmmakers have in mind for the characters, from being impaled by a forklift to having their faces plunged into the propeller of the Staten Island Ferry. But the real violence — and the reason audiences presumably pay to see these IP parasites — is what’s done to the characters themselves, as there’s an illicit thrill in desecrating powerful brands, like Disney.
“Screamboat” isn’t the first slasher movie to spoof “Steamboat Willie,” the 1928 animated short that introduced a primitive black-and-white version of Mickey Mouse, but it’s a lot more fun than last year’s “The Mouse Trap,” a pathetic cash grab in which some guy...

Plot: Be our guest on a New York City ferry ride that turns into a hilarious nightmare when a mischievous mouse – Steamboat Willie becomes a monstrous reality. Can the unsuspecting passengers survive the creature’s miniature murder and mayhem?
Review: When Steamboat Willie’s copyright ran up, it was only a matter of time before we received a horror version. It’s happened with nearly every major IP at this point. And while Screamboat isn’t part of the Poohniverse, it shares qualities with their better efforts. Because at no point does this take itself seriously and there’s only one clear goal: bloody fun.
The story of Screamboat is pretty simple: a trip on the NYC Ferry turns into a bloody rampage as a mysterious creature is released and unleashes horror on them! The ferry is pretty much the only setting for the film so it can be a little: rinse and repeat.

Whatever you do, don't call him Mickey!
Screamboat is set to hit theaters for a limited run on April 2, and Sleight of Hand Productions has released the final trailer for the Steamboat Willie horror parody, which stars David Howard Thornton - who plays Art the Clown in the Terrifier films - as a twisted take on the classic cartoon character.
As we're sure many of you will be aware, Steamboat Willie debuted in a 1928 animated short film directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, which is generally viewed as the first appearance of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. For all intents and purposes, Willie is the iconic Disney mascot, but something tells us this character won't be referred to as Mm in the movie.
This project is not part of the Twisted Childhood Universe, aka the "Poohniverse," but by the looks of this reprehensible rodent, he'd fit right in.

David Howard Thornton, best known for his role as the sadistic Art the Clown in Terrifier and its brutal sequel, is set to terrorise audiences once again—this time as a rampaging rodent in Screamboat, a horror-comedy that transforms a harmless ferry ride into a nightmarish bloodbath. The film is set to hit Vue cinemas on 2nd April before arriving on digital platforms on 28th April and DVD in May, courtesy of Signature Entertainment.
Directed by Steven Lamorte (The Mean One), Screamboat takes the playful charm of classic animated mascots and distorts it into something far more menacing. The film had been aiming for a January 2025 release, but Iconic Events Releasing recently announced that they’ll be releasing it on April 2nd. With that date right around the corner, a...

Move over Winnie-the-Pooh, there's a new public domain killer on the loose, and his name is Steamboat Willie. The beloved Disney character is getting the horror treatment thanks to Terrifier franchise producers in the new film Screamboat, which also features Art the Clown actor David Howard Thornton as the killer mouse. The official red-band trailer for the horror flick directed by Steven Lamorte was recently released (seen below), and it showcases all the gory carnage we can expect when the film hits theaters on April 12.
"Welcome aboard the Staten Island Ferry," the trailer begins before we're presented with one of the biggest horror tropes ever: the doomsday defeatist. "This boat is cursed," the man says. "We're all going to die!" From there, we see the cast of Screamboat that inevitably gets picked off one-by-one by a shrunk-down Thornton, who portrays the character first made famous by Disney in 1928, and entered the public domain on Jan.

Winnie the Pooh, Pinocchio, Bambi, Peter Pan, and now Mickey Mouse... kinda!
The first teaser for Iconic Events Releasing's upcoming Screamboat movie didn't actually reveal the murderous mouse, but thanks to a new promo image (via Variety), we now have a first look at David Howard Thornton - who plays Art the Clown in the Terrifier films - as a twisted take on the classic cartoon character.
This project is not part of the Twisted Childhood Universe, aka the "Poohniverse," but by the looks of this reprehensible rodent, he'd fit right in.
As we're sure many of you will be aware, Steamboat Willie debuted in a 1928 animated short film directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, which is generally viewed as the first appearance of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. A new image has been revealed for the upcoming movie Screamboat. The film serves as a horror spoof of Steamboat Willie, the classic animated short that first introduced the Mickey Mouse character.
In 2024, Steamboat Willie officially entered the public domain. While later incarnations of Mickey Mouse are still protected by copyright law, the introductory version as shown in Steamboat Willie can legally be spoofed. This is part of a new trend that's picking up following the success of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, which took another beloved children's character and turned him evil thanks to the copyright protection going away. How Screamboat will turn out remains to be seen, but the first look at David Howard Thornton (the Terrifier trilogy's Art the Clown actor) in the role of the killer Willie has been revealed.

One of horror's more divisive trends continues in the Screamboat teaser trailer. The movie hails from director Steven Lamorte, who previously made a name for himself by directing 2022's The Mean One, a slasher horror twist on Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Screamboat will center on a group of New Yorkers who come under attack by a figure who looks akin to Mickey Mouse aboard a late-night ferry, with the project entering development after Steamboat Willie entered the public domain.

Steven Lamorte, who produced Terrifier 2, will direct the film. Lamorte previously dabbled in this kind of parody material with The Mean One, which also starred Thornton. The Mean One is a Christmas horror film loosely based on the iconic Dr. Seuss story,...

Breaking news: Art the Clown is now Mickey Mouse! Sort of. Okay, that warrants some further explanation. At the beginning of this year, Disney's animated short "Steamboat Willie" entered the public domain. The short film featured a very early incarnation of Mickey Mouse (who wasn't called Mickey Mouse in the film), which means that a version of Disney's most famous mascot is now free for the public to use. Which also means budding indie horror filmmakers are seizing on the opportunity, as they did when the character of Winnie-the-Pooh entered the public domain and spawned a horror franchise.
Case in point: the upcoming horror movie "Screamboat" will turn Steamboat Willie into a killer mouse. And the indie film has found the perfect actor to play the murderous version of Mickey/Steamboat Willie: David Howard Thornton, who has become a kind of new horror icon for playing the frequently blood-soaked Art...

On January 1st, the earliest versions of Mickey Mouse – seen in the animated shorts Plane Crazy, The Gallopin’ Gaucho, and most famously Steamboat Willie – became public domain… which, of course, means we’re now going to get multiple horror movies that feature characters inspired by Mickey Mouse. David Howard Thornton plays Art the Clown in the Terrifier films and brought the horror version of the Grinch to life in The Mean One, so it’s no surprise that...

Big casting news has been revealed for horror fans. David Howard Thornton, best known for playing Art the Clown in the Terrifier movies, will next lead the cast of a Steamboat Willie parody film.
Per Variety, Thornton has been cast as a killer mouse in Screamboat, a film that spoofs Disney's classic animated short film Steamboat Willie. The film's production comes after the short was recently added to the public domain, and is one of multiple projects that were quickly put into works to take advantage of the situation. This stage was set by the success of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, which similarly put a horror spin on beloved characters who've been traditionally family-friendly.
