    British composer, trained under Gustav Holst at the Royal College of Music. Leading viola player with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Covent Garden Orchestra from 1926 to 1936. He was later associated for many years (as musical director) with the films of Herbert Wilcox (and his wife Anna Neagle) on both sides of the Atlantic in the 1930's and 40's.
