Biography

    • Phil Collinson started in television as a script editor for Granada. After working in this capacity on the popular soap opera Emmerdale Farm (1972) he joined the medical drama Médecins de l'ordinaire (1993), subsequently being made into producer of the series. He then joined the BBC to become producer of Born and Bred (2002), Linda Green (2001), Sea of Souls (2004) and the revival of Doctor Who (2005), working under chief writer and executive producer Russell T. Davies. In 2008 he left Doctor Who (2005) to become Head of Drama for the BBC in Manchester.

Quotes

  • I feel that Doctor Who (2005) led the way. Nick Cutter et les portes du temps (2007) and Life on Mars (2006) are both brilliant, vibrant shows, made with real intelligence. It's a joy to see drama that's different from the norm. Thirty years ago, no one would have hesitated to commission a series about survivors of a nuclear holocaust or colonists on the moon, but somewhere along the line the programme makers got scared. I'm glad that's lifting now. It can only benefit the audience.
