US composer Elliot Goldenthal will receive a lifetime achievement award at the upcoming 24th World Soundtrack Awards (Wsa), Film Fest Gent’s annual film music awards ceremony.
Goldenthal is most renowned for his Oscar, Golden Globe and Wsa-winning score for Frida, as well as scoring Interview With The Vampire, Heat, Batman Forever, Michael Collins, Titus and Across The Universe across his accomplished career.
He will be presented with his award on October 16 at the Wsa ceremony and concert in Ghent, in which a selection of Goldenthal’s work will be performed by the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brossé.

There are many great sales online this week, but the folks at Amazon are treating us to something special: 3 Warner Archive Blu-rays for $35.
While this might not be the lowest that we’ve seen prices on these Blu-rays (the WB Shop has had 5 for $50 sales in the past that have included Warner Archive Blu-rays), it is certainly a good deal on great films.

Has the Orion Music + More Festival found a permanent home in the Motor City? After launching last year in Atlantic City, the Metallica-led rock weekend is setting up shop on Belle Isle June 8 and 9. And in keeping with the name and spirit of the event (Orion like the constellation, not Lake Orion the suburb), the two-day lineup is jam-packed with stars of the rock variety.

Although the main event takes place over the weekend, two alums from the 2012 Orion gathering in Atlantic City will be pounding out their tunes at pre-festival concerts on Friday night. Catch Baroness at St. Andrews Hall or Chevy Metal, featuring Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters, at the Majestic. A Saturday after-show will also bring electronic dance musician Dillon Francis back from the island for a special set at the Fillmore.
