Thomas J. Colbert is a senior executive with decades of management and editorial experience in the national news, TV entertainment, publishing, streaming and motion picture fields.
He began his professional career at the CBS flagship news station in Los Angeles, KCBS, rising to the rank of senior researcher. In 1989, Mr. Colbert was recruited by Paramount Television to become a Story Editor for a syndicated news magazine program. In 1992, he created Industry R&D, Inc., the first national middleman service for local reporters. Each day, his staff would summarize journalists' top small-town tales for consideration by the U.S. and international news media, publishers and entertainment producers. His story bank, now more than 10,000 unique tales, has been a searchable bank for story-developers for decades.
In between his news and entertainment projects, Mr. Colbert has also provided crisis-management training and media-liaison services to first-responders and investigative agencies. For 18 years, he was an adjunct trainer at the renowned California Specialized Training Institute at Camp San Luis.
In 2009, he launched CommStatim, a firm that assists public servants - including whistle-blowers and citizen heroes - translate their emergency incidents and criminal cases into news and entertainment stories that emphasize integrity, lessons learned and the public good.
Currently, acting CEO of The Case Breakers nonprofit corporation, Mr. Colbert heads up a cold case team of more than forty volunteer experts in order to provide support in solving cold cases.
Mr. Colbert is a 1980 graduate of the award-winning Journalism Department at California State University, Northridge.
