An early festival teaser has debuted for an indie horror film premiering this month at the 2024 Austin Film Festival, playing in their Dark Matters Features section. The film is called The Fetch, marking the feature directorial debut of indie genre filmmaker J.C. Doler, telling an eerie tale of grief & demons. Following the death of his only son, a grieving father is haunted by a terrifying demon known in Irish folklore as the Fetch. A fetch is a supernatural double or an apparition of a living person. The sighting of a fetch is regarded as an omen, usually for impending death... The indie film stars Robert Longstreet, Aleksa Palladino, Logan Donovan, Shannon Cochran, & Tripp Toupal. Well damn this looks actually quite scary and especially creepy with all the weird gross hands popping out of everywhere. Plus evil doppelgangers appearing randomly.

The Office is getting a continuation of sorts, as a sequel series is currently in development at Peacock. However, while the spinoff will be set in the same world, it will be at an entirely different location with an all-new cast of characters.

Called The Paper, the new series is not confirmed to be bringing back any original cast members of The Office at this time, but cameo appearances are not out of the question, given the shared universe. The pool of possible returns is starting to get smaller, as another actor has bowed out following Steve Carell's previous assertion that he will not appear as Michael Scott. Rashida Jones, who played Jim's ex-girlfriend Karen, has confirmed to The Playlist that she's not interested in reprising that role, though she wishes everybody involved well.

My boyfriend and I had gone to see this new film called The Ring. It was incredible—so unlike the other horror films that were being produced when I was in college. But now, as we laid in bed in his rental house, I couldn’t seem to relax. Every time I closed my eyes, the image of an old well was seared into my brain. And if I let the image sit long enough, a ghostly little girl would slowly climb up out of the well and creep toward me.

The role of Pam’s mom on The Office has been filled by Linda Purl, a relative unknown whose biggest claim to fame was playing Andy Griffith’s daughter on Matlock.

Last month, Office producer, writer and co-star B.J. Novak said Mrs. Beasly probably wouldn’t be played by a well-known actress, and that was largely by design:

“That’s the rule we have stuck to on our show - it is supposed to be real average Joes, and casting a famous actor just takes away from that,” Novak said.

“We have only cast a famous actor when they can blend right in as was the case with Amy Ryan. Or if it makes sense for the role, like with Jack Black.”

The Office has added a new cast member in Linda Purl, who you may remember as Andy Griffith's daughter on Matlock. According to The Ausiello Files, the seasoned actress will be playing the coveted role of Pam's mom on the popular sitcom.

Purl will make her debut next month during the long awaited nuptials between Jim and Pam. Shannon Cochran originally played Pam's mother for a brief moment in season two. There is no word on how many episodes Purl will appear in.

Playwright Tracy Letts' "Killer Joe", seen off-Broadway a few years back, was a ripping Gothic thriller that promised the arrival of a significant playwriting talent. This, his second play to be seen in New York, only confirms it.

Although it degenerates into a wildly baroque and over-the-top conclusion, "Bug" is a riveting thriller of paranoia and an instant guilty pleasure.

Set in a seedy Oklahoma motel room, the play revolves around the ill-fated meeting between Agnes (Shannon Cochran), a down-on-her-luck waitress, and Peter (Michael Shannon), a mysterious stranger introduced to her by her lesbian friend R.C. (Amy Landecker). Agnes is hanging out in the hotel to avoid her violent ex-husband, Jerry (Michael Cullen), who has just been released from prison. She allows Peter, a soft-spoken military veteran with an oddly recessive personality, to camp out on her floor, and it isn't long before the two become lovers.

This doesn't sit well with Jerry, who has reappeared expecting to resume their relationship. But that turns out to be the least of Agnes' problems because her room soon appears to become infested with bugs, which the increasingly disturbed Peter claims are the result of experiments conducted on him by the military. By the time the mysterious Dr. Sweet (Reed Birney) arrives offering to help, things have taken a turn toward the deranged.

While the plotting edges toward the preposterous, the playwright's gift for sharp-edged dialogue, evocative atmosphere and incisive characterizations keeps us tightly drawn in. At once a compelling thriller and sometimes riotously funny black comedy, "Bug" also manages to be a moving portrait of two lost souls finding salvation, eventually the darkest kind, in each other.
