Erotic Thriller Documentary ‘We Kill For Love’ Celebrates 80s and 90s Thrillers [Sex Crimes]
Image
For the first time since beginning this editorial series, we’re discussing a documentary rather than a fiction film. That’s because Yellow Veil just released a supersized documentary about the history of the Erotic Thriller called We Kill For Love: The Lost World of the Erotic Thriller (2023).

Clocking in at 163 minutes, this is a thorough, occasionally indulgent documentary written and directed by Anthony Penta. The doc uses a framing device featuring an archivist character, played by Michael Reed, cataloguing countless VHS tapes and watching “Suspect Interviews” (aka talking head interviews) in his dimly lit office. These segments recur throughout We Kill For Love, and also feature voice-over narration from Penta that are partially purple prose, partially quotations from academic articles and books on the genre.

The vast majority of the documentary, however, is taken up by clips and talking head interviews. There’s a good variety of interviewees, including scholars such Linda Ruth Williams,...

Photos: Jodie Fisher, Hp Scandal Actress, In Movies & TV
Main Headshot
Jodie Fisher has become best known for her involvement in the sexual harassment scandal that prompted Hp CEO Mark Hurd to resign from the company. At this point, it may seem like a career footnote, but as the after-effects of the scandal reverberate -- the letter she wrote that led to his ouster was made public on Friday -- Fisher has begun to act in small movie and TV roles.

This fall, Fisher guest starred in an episode of "NCIS: Los Angeles," playing a woman named Emma White in an episode about a former Navy Intelligence officer who turns out to be living an illegal double life. She also had a bit part in the re-imagining of the classic Peter Fonda film "Easy Rider," in which she played a bartender.

Prior to this mini-renaissance, and before she began a career in consulting and marketing that would eventually lead her to Hurd,...

Former Hp CEO Mark Hurd's Alleged Sexual Harassment Goes Very Public
Gloria Allred at an event for Saved! (2004)
The sexual harassment allegations that led to former Hewlett Packard CEO Mark Hurd’s dismissal have gone public. A Delaware judge ruled Wednesday that a letter sent to Hurd by celebrity attorney Gloria Allred detailing the claims of on behalf of Jodie Fisher is a public document, and various publications have already posted a copy of the letter. It details one unwanted kiss, a series of inappropriate gestures -- both physical and emotional -- and Hurd’s unyielding pursuit of a woman who repeatedly expressed her lack of interest in the married CEO. “Looking at...

iFive: Craigslist Fallout, Samsung's iPad, Ibm's Super-fast chip, Google China Warning, Mark Hurd Lands at Oracle
While the U.S. holidayed for Labor Day, the rest of the world just ... um ... labored, and news happened. But if you're using Facebook to check the facts then beware--there's a huge new phishing scam out there, predating.

1. The fallout on Craigslist's "Adult services" segment continues. Now it's pulled down the "offending" segment, albeit with a spiky, snarky Censored bar across the segment on its menu, many people are claiming victory. This is mainly politicians clinging to whatever cause they think will garner votes, but some novel thinking suggests it may be sheer media pressure that was the biggest factor. And still others are now concerned, using arguments like those used for legalization of drugs, that by pushing these services underground the situation for sex trafficking may actually be worsened for those poor unfortunates involved. It's a classic case of sweeping the matter under the rug, since the Craigslist-censoring "cure...

iFive: Google Buys Like.com, China Overtakes Japan, Apple Causing iAd Delays, Andreessen to Hp, and Obamas' Gulf Swim
While you were sleeping, innovation was running a rival Os on a slightly smaller model, and flogging it cheaply in a Beijing street market.

1. "Mind share," not market share, is behind many of Google's recent acquisitions, according to a piece in the Financial Times this morning, which highlights the upcoming battle between the search engine (and more) firm and Facebook in the social media arena. Yesterday, TechCrunch revealed that Google is in the final stages of a $100 million deal to buy Like.com, a visual search engine, and Fortune outlined plans for Google Ideas, a think tank headed by Washington insider Jared Cohen.

2. China has overtaken Japan to become the second-largest economy in the world, says the New York Times. Analysts reckon that in just 20 years it will have overtaken the U.S., although it is too heavy on foreign exports, and needs to encourage domestic consumption. The Wall Street...

Top Five Reality Show Sex Scandals
Main Headshot
Who's Jodie Fisher? She's the reality star at the center of a corporate-world sexual-harassment controversy who, to be honest, barely meets the definition of a reality star. (She was the fortysomething cougar eliminated from the very first episode of the dating series, Age of Love.) Even if her star itself isn't the brightest, Fisher follows in the fine tabloid tradition of these racy reality-show scandals: The Bachelor's other man: Per her duties as a contestant on the most recent season of the hit show, Rozlyn Papa was supposed to have eyes for no male but Jake Pavelka. However difficult we now may think that job might have been, it was her job. She, of course, lost said job midway through the shoot...

Actress Jodie Fisher Identified as Woman in Hp CEO's Ouster
The woman who made a sexual harassment claim against Hewlett-Packard CEO Mark Hurd that led to his resignation has identified herself as former soft-core porn actress and reality star Jodie Fisher.

Check out photos of Jodie Fisher

Fisher, who worked as a contractor for Hp, said in a statement Sunday through her lawyer, Gloria Allred, that she never had an affair or an "intimate sexual relationship" with Hurd and that she never intended for her claims to cost him his job.

"I was surprised ...

iFive: Hp's Jodie Fisher Problem, Apple's Ousted Engineer, Post-Plug Bp Stats, Farrow Contradicts Campbell, VCs Muse Over Europe
While you were sleeping, innovation was not sitting in a sauna.

1. Forty-eight hours after the shock resignation of Mark Hurd, the contractor who brought down the Hp CEO has broken cover. Jodie Fisher, a former reality TV actress who worked in Hp's marketing department, has resolved the claim privately, she says. Through her lawyer, Gloria Allred, she expressed "regret," but all eyes are now on Hp, to see how the "scandal" will affect the firm.

2. The engineer behind the iPhone 4 launch has left Apple, reports The Guardian. The disappearance of Mark Papermaster, also responsible for the iPod, does beg the question: Jump or Pushed? (although the Wall Street Journal is convinced that he lost Steve Jobs' confidence in him months ago) and stepping into the breach is Bob Mansfield. Daring Fireball's John Gruber, unusually Apple-savvy for an outsider, has some interesting theories here and here.

'Age of Love' Cougar Jodie Fisher Sorry Hp CEO Lost Job
Ray J
Oh, for the love of Ray J. When will people learn that little good follows you (and those you encounter) around once you've appeared on any form of reality dating show?

Hewlett Packard CEO Mark Hurd was forced to resign Friday following sexual harassment allegations from Age of Love contestant Jodie Fisher, 50, who competed on the 2007 show for the love of Australian tennis player Mark Philippoussis against a bevy of "kittens" (gals under 30) and "cougars" (women over 40).
