What They're Serving Out in Seattle…
Don Nordo del Midwest Cafe Nordo, Seattle

Dinner theatre is an experience that one might naturally associate with a mediocre meal accompanied by a tired production of some standard-bearer musical. Cafe Nordo challenges this preconception, doing the unthinkable by infusing creativity and sincerity into this otherwise basely novel tradition.

Presenting Don Nordo del Midwest as the first production in they're their new Pioneer Square location, Cafe Nordo offers up their play on the tale of Don Quixote as re-envisioned with the famed idiot savant questing to be a revolutionary chef on a haphazard mission to bring his culinary vision to the Midwest. Blending elements of commedia dell'arte and theatre of the absurd, this production serves up some interesting entertainment between original courses.

Terry Podgorski's script seizes the opportunity left on the table by most dinner theatre and incorporates the meal into the script. Following the episodic nature of the this quixotic mis-adventure,...

Grimmfest 2013 Review: ‘The Conspiracy’
Stars: Aaron Poole, James Gilbert, Ian Anderson, Angela Besharah, Bruce Clayton, Laura de Carteret, Peter Apostolopoulos | Written and Directed by Christopher MacBride

“For you see, the world is governed by very different personages from what is imagined…” – Benjamin Disraeli, British Prime Minister 1874 – 1880

The Conspiracy is directed by Christopher MacBride, who makes his feature film debut behind the camera to tell this tale. The story follows two guys named Aaron (Aaron Poole) and Jim (James Gilbert) who are making a documentary about people who believe in conspiracy theories. It begins as a basic documentary as we follow the shoulder’s of these two filmmakers as they speak with people who believe in these ideas. It is striking, to begin with, by how realistic these opening scenes are where the camera rests on talking heads who are speaking about the topic at hand.

This Canadian made film feels authentic and I love...

Fantastic Fest 2012: ‘The Conspiracy’ – clever filmmaking, continuously surprising
The Conspiracy

Directed by Christopher MacBride

Screenplay by Christopher MacBride

2012, Canada

Though it boasts a fictional storyline and plenty of fabricated found footage, The Conspiracy is fascinated with the earnest yet untenable obsession of the real conspiracy theorist. Ostensibly a straight-faced mockumentary about two filmmakers (Aaron Poole and Jim Gilbert) interviewing local conspiracy theorist Terrance G. (Alan C. Peterson), the opening third of The Conspiracy is Christopher MacBride’s sounding board for popular real-world conspiracies. The audience is inundated with speculation about 9/11, the JFK assassination, massive surveillance operations, and the New World Order–all presented with respect but objective detachment by MacBride.

This allows for the necessary introduction into the film’s world, but MacBride also draws the viewer into the frenzied mindset of conspiracy theorists. Whether you are a believer or not (and it’s unclear where exactly MacBride stands), it is nonetheless fascinating and rewarding to imagine the...
