Biography

    • Elaine Claxton is a British actress who originates from the United Kingdom and spent her early years in England. She completed undergraduate studies in French at the University of Warwick before pursuing formal drama training at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. Early in her career, Claxton focused on radio drama, joining the BBC Radio Drama Company multiple times during the mid-1980s and mid-1990s, where she recorded hundreds of productions spanning poetry, comedy, and voice acting. This foundation in radio opened pathways to regional and national theatre, with performances at venues including the National Theatre, Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough, Bristol Old Vic, Watford Palace, Hall for Cornwall, and Theatre Clwyd. Gradually expanding into television and film, she made her screen debut in guest roles on British series such as EastEnders, The Bill, Sunburn, and Week Ending in the late 1990s. Claxton's television career grew to include appearances in Doctors, Holby City, and The Mrs Bradley Mysteries, eventually earning multi-episode roles in shows like Wire in the Blood and Doc Martin. Her international recognition broadened with a supporting role in the 2017 film The Death of Stalin, alongside continued television work in dramas such as Delicious, Emmerdale-where she appeared in ten episodes-The Coroner, and Silk. Alongside screen and stage work, she maintained a steady career in radio and audio-book narration for outlets including BBC Radio 4 and Simon & Schuster. Claxton also contributed to actor training, teaching voice, dialect, and radio technique at institutions like RADA from 1999 to 2003 and later as an associate lecturer in acting at Falmouth University. In recent years, she appeared in the West End premiere of Laura Wade's The Watsons, playing Mrs Edwards in a production that transferred from the Menier Chocolate Factory to London's West End in 2020. Throughout her career, Claxton has balanced work across stage, screen, radio, and voice acting, drawing on her academic background in French and formal dramatic training to shape her versatile professional path.
