Juan Manuel Chumilla Carbajosa has a degree in "Cinematographic Direction" granted by the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografía (CSC) in Rome. Chosen as best young European film school director for his short feature "Berenice" at the beginning of the nineties, and after taking part in the project of producer, Elías Querejeta, "7 Huellas" (7 Prints), he created Kinos Klan, his own production company. Besides his diverse relations with the world of cinematography as consultant and teacher collaborating with the Foundation for Audiovisual Investigation, International Menéndez Pelayo University (FIA-UIMP) in Valencia, the International Film and Television School (EICTV) in Cuba, the Sundance Institute, the Author Foundation and the Motion Pictures Association (MPA); he stands out for his work as director, script writer and producer. He's particularly interested in new audiovisual techniques and their creative applications. In 1995 he directed Carmen Maura, Juanjo Puigcorbé, Jean-Pierre Cassel and Rafael Álvarez "El Brujo" in the European co-production "Amores que matan", a black comedy inspired by Norman Rockwell's iconography that raised the interest of Twentieth Century Fox after being shown at the Montreal Film Festival and getting excellent reviews from Variety. In 1999 he sponsored the cinematic début of Paz Vega and Eduard Fernández directing "Zapping", an ironic musing on the world of televsion, built up like an audiovisual jigsaw of formats and textures. His latest films are set in a fascinating balance between fiction and documentary with a most personal style. "Desnudos desnudos" got several awards in various international festivals; "Buscarse la vida" and "El agua de la vida", are the result of his collaboration with the producer Elías Querejeta.. His creative work stretches to other areas such as literature, photography, graphic design and plastic arts.
