  • Directed the centennial staging of Richard Wagner's opera "The Ring of the Nibelung" at the Bayreuth Festival, polarizing fans and critics (1976).
  • Has supported Lionel Jospin's 2002 and Ségolène Royal's 2007 presidential campaign.
  • President of La Fémis, France's most prestigious film school, during three months (January 2007 - March 2007).
  • He worked very closely with the illustrious Claude Stratz in Parisian National Theatre and Cinema and the CNSAD - Paris Conservatory - for decades.
  • Youngest child of his parents, both painters.
  • Created and directed a public theater in Sartrouville, being just 22 years old (1966).
  • His funeral took place in the Church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris. Mourners included Isabelle Huppert, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Charles Berling, Vincent Perez, Jean-Hugues Anglade, Agnès Varda, François Hollande, Jane Birkin, Romain Duris, Nicole Garcia and Louis Garrel.
