Laxmi worked with Asha Parekh in several films where Asha was the heroine, while Laxmi had supporting roles. Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971) had been a huge success for both actresses, because of the chartbuster song "Maar Diya Jaaye". Yet, a film magazine falsely claimed that Asha had tried to cut Laxmi's role down. Asha phoned Laxmi and told her to put an end to the story.
